It's been a while since I've measured the original T1 and since then my measurement rig has moved on to a version 2 using a solid coupler which yields slightly different results.

What I've done here is measure the new Beyerdynamic T1 Generation 2 headphone on the old version 1 measurement rig for purposes of direct relative comparison. Note that the range on the FR has been squashed a little bit and the floor on the CSDs has been lowered to -36db to try to make out more of the differences. I've also included an overhead sonogram plot for the CSD with a shorter time interval.

I'm pretty sure that my T1 looks different than these T1s
Not as bright as that T1 and no raise at 6 kHz like the T1 v2

I'll probably make some cheapskate FR measurements later.

The new coupler looks less absorptive and/or leaky. Mostly the same, a hint smoother on Gen 1 coupler than the other samples. Could be any old T1 for all I know. I suppose that's the problem.

Yes, the new coupler is less leaky, so slightly more bass. Still the increased bass on the Gen 2 is evident when the couplers are the same (as they are here). That's really what I wanted to confirm.

    Dholy schiit!

Is that more ringing at 8KHz on the new T1v2 that I'm seeing?

Beyer needs to work on that IMO. Is it so hard to stuff something inside the cups? They used to do that for the old DT line, why not the Tesla line?

Yup, more ringing, below 8kHz and now 6.5kHz too! (The 6.5kHz peak is why some people mentioned some similarity to HD800 treble). What makes the ringing worse is the sympathetic second order distortion peak one octave below mirroring the frequency response.

Yeah, I think I noticed a similar peak up in some headphones whose characteristics don't sound like the FR graph suggests.

The T1v2 seems to be one of those. A quick glance would not immediately point out how bright the treble is because people may be inclined to say... "oh, if you take the bass peak at 500Hz, then treble is in line with the rest of the range" but looking at CSD and sonogram, I think the sonic performance is basically one where bass is tubby and really overpowering (in a bad way), and treble is ringy and glarey, while midrange takes a backseat altogether.

To me, the lack of midrange was more notable than annoying treble.

Oh, okay, so it really does sound like that? That's interesting...

I've heard a good T1 out of Bottlehead Crack before, and admittedly... it's actually quite good, save for the bits of sibilance that are there in some songs.

So purrin, what do you think? Are you going to end up keeping the T1's or return them and put the funds into something else?

I have it slated as replacement, but I don't know if they have them in stock. Either way I'm OK with it. I'm sure we will be able to recoup most of it back and get more interesting headphones. There isn't much interest in this and for good reason. Measurements lie sometimes, but in this case, they don't.

I'm more or less necroing this, but this headphone seems incredibly disappointing. I got one of the "good" revisions of the T1 (the model right before gen 2 at s/n 13xxx) and it surprisingly fantastic, especially out of the Valhalla 2. I like it as much as my modded HD650, but it seems to (oddly) do amazing with gaming.

I wouldn't call it odd considering the position of the driver in the cup and the added depth compared to something like a DT 880/HD650.

Are these measurements raw, or compensated?
