Analogue is spotty with their production record. The NT Mini is just begging to be price-gouged (as is the new handheld), given the demand and low production numbers. I have the Super NT and I love it, but not sure I would jump through hoops to get one (the $200 price point when it launched was very nice, not sure what they are going for nowadays). I prefer to use my original system/CRT wherever possible.

I landed a PVM on the east coast two months before I moved to Hawaii (and then Seattle), so I'm trying to find a safe way to get it over here. I thought about buying a plane seat of its own and getting it here that way. The PVM market is super dry up in Seattle. I'm kind of shocked, given the gaming-heavy culture up here. If I could replace it easily, I'd sell the one that's out on the east coast and replace it. May be worth a road trip to California (most PVM's for sale seem to be around there).

I run into the issue of wanting to use my carts instead of a giant romlist. It's kind of a mental thing more than anything, but that's how I'm wired. I find I'm more likely to "stick" with a game than if it's physically in the system. This is the key reason I haven't splurged on a MiSTer yet, even though it opens up a wide range of options (particularly arcade games). The Retrousb AVS is on my short list of things to order, in the event I can't use a CRT. It's a great product and fairly priced.

It is, yeah. That’s right before Sonny Bonds got tossed off the force for murdering two neighborhood creeps and snorting all their cocaine. What a game. I learned to type playing the old Sierra text adventure games and many decades later I love them still.

King’s Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory, Space Quest, Gold Rush, Manhunter... LSL when I could get away with it.

    Huge fanboy.

Only series I went through completely was Space Quest and I absolutely love it. I remember finding KQ2 and SQ2 at Target in the late 90s for $5. I snapped it up immediately. I've wanted to play through King's Quest and Larry for awhile but haven't gotten around to it yet. (Time, kids, Mac emulation issues)

I have never heard of MISTer and it does sound like a good platform. It looks very DIY which appeals to me and seems possible to have a module that can use cartridges.

I was never a big PC Gamer, but one of the few PC Gaming Series that I love after all these years is the Descent Series:

It's just Doom but six degree of freedom and no gravity in a spaceship going thru different mines in the solar system blowing up robots that were infected with a virus. I first played as a kid back in the 90s and I never get old of the games.

Note: The video is showing the game in 16x10 screen raito, but it is really a 4x3 game.

    @YMO

i figured you were a Descent fan from your avatar.

Descent and Duke Nukem were the games I remembered playing on dial-up with a friend. 1 v 1. Good times

I did dial up on Descent 3 as a kid when dad purchased a PC that was decent enough to play it online. Good times.

Oh man. I played Duke Nukem via local lan in my freshman dorm. Probably the most fun I ever had playing video games. It was such a cheap, broken game. I picked it up for the Switch in the hopes of reviving that fun with my college roommate nearly 25 years later but we haven't been able to find time at the same time yet. That and the fake 3D kind of gives me motion sickness now.

If you’re a fan of Decent you might like Sublevel Zero

@YEEEEGZ Roberta Williams is in that documentary “High Score” on Netflix. It’s one of the more interesting parts of the series

Ken and Roberta Williams are actually releasing a book soon. They also recently gave a rare interview on a podcast I follow.

At some point I saw their house listed for sale linked on a Sierra forum. There's King's Quest stained glass windows in the house!

This is where I'd post pre-Sierra days Roberta Williams on the cover of Softporn Adventure if it was SFW.

    What a gaming legend.

Did you ever play Descent: Freespace and Freespace 2? I remember going out and buying a Logitech X52 flight stick just for it. Damn good times.

I never did, mostly due to Freespace wasn't my type of game. I'm more a simple blow up crap type of guy with little fluff/fat.

    Another "Hidden Game" post:

    B. Rap Boys / Kaneko / 1992 / Arcade

    B. Rap Boys is the sequel to Kaneko earlier beat 'em up type DJ Boy. DJ Boy was very infamous of how the Japanese see Americas and American culture from their end. Here's one example of DJ Boy infamous first boss fight:

Yes, it is just what you think it looks like. Yes, she pass gas as one of her attacks. This is from JP Megadrive version, not the arcade.

Controls in DJ Boy is sluggish since your character is on roller skates, and your move set is very limited. However, DJ Boy art design is pretty crazy and interesting on how much stereotyping the Japanese did on us Americans. PC this game is not 100%.

    B. Rap Boys takes the stereotyping up 100%, and only did minor improvements on the beat 'em up gameplay. From stories online, Kaneko was making the game with the Beastie Boys in mind. However, the IP rights never came to be so they partly resign the game and used tons of ROM chips because the music is actually a few hip-hop/rap songs from some unknown group. Yes, the music are actual hip-hop songs samples at I guess 60-90 seconds and mixed them around depending on where you are at at a level. The game was really hitting the hip-hop pop-culture HARD. Look at the name, the players you can play (up to three players, which is better than the two-player limit of DJ Boy). Game is oozing with style, crazy art work that makes you do a double take, and tons of voice samples on top of the music. This makes you think B. Rap Boys is better than DJ Boy on gameplay.

Well....not really. Your characters are still on roller skates and while they can move a little faster, they are still sluggish. Furthermore, their move set is pretty limited. However, you can pick up weapons later in the game, including riding on a robot.

I like the game because only something like this can come out in the early 90s. Beat 'em ups were still popular enough in the early 90s (but started to fall off from the arcades in the mid-90s), and some wacky gameplay stuff in arcades were still coming out during this time. This is one game you have to play it just once, or play it with friends. After playing it with a few times, the lacking in gameplay will become an issue. People still play the Capcom beat 'em ups because their later titles have so much features with regards to controlling your character (blocking/special moves/etc.), other beat 'em ups back in the era focused on the basics.

    Vintage console upscalers....

Once upon a time I had a framemeister xrgb mini and I sold it to free up some cash, well now several years later they discontinued the damn things. Really sad as they are now selling for way more than they retailed for.

I see they have this thing called OSSC now which looks like a science project and viable alternative. Anyone have experiences or recommendations?
