Given that the specifications listed are exactly the same as the Elegia, is there good information available on what's different?

With those pads, might be warm.

Apparently it's a retuned version of the Elegia. This version is semi-open instead of fully sealed. Hopefully I'll be able to get ears on this soon.

    The Elegia needed some warmth.

I am mostly surprised at rhe price.

Same driver as the Elegia driver, retuned and much better built with also leather earpads. The outside cup is additionally leather.

$100 extra for retuning? (sound wise).
$419 extra if you consider the discounted Elegia :|

I was hoping for a closed Clear or at least a revised Elegia with the same $899 MSRP.

Given the build, I’m not surprised it is $100 more.

It has the same driver, so it basically is a closed Clear. And I thought the Elegia was incredibly flat and boring sounding, so I'm glad they did a rethink, and can hopefully get closer to that Clear sound sig.

There’s a reason the Elegia was so deeply discounted, and IMO it was overpriced at $400. If this actually sounds like a Clear it’s worth the bump in price.

As far as I know the Elegia has the Elear drivers which are different from the Clear's.
    Am I missing something here?.

Honestly, I could be mistaken on that point, but the sentiment still stands. I want a better sounding closed back than the Elegia. It was incredibly unengaging for me.

The Elegia IS semi-open depending on your definition. The flame logo is a port to the interior of the cup (with a black damping foam up against it).

In what way is it not fully closed / sealed?

The flame logo is a cutout in the cup.

    I don’t think it’s the clear driver. Clear = 53 ohms, Celesteeeeeeee = 35 ohms.

How much can enclosure affect impedance rating? Still have yet to get ears on the Clear but from what I remember of the Elear it's effectively suspended in air, whereas this looks to be heavily restricted.

Don’t really know. The Utopia is 80 ohms, the Stella is 35 ohms and I’ve heard it claimed they both use the same driver. It seems to me (without any analysis or calculations) that big an impedance change would also affect the frequency response quite a bit too, but I’d have to pull out some textbooks and spend a few hours remembering stuff I forgot 30 years ago to say with any real confidence.

The enclosure will cause a peak at a particular frequency or frequencies. It’s not uniform across the entire frequency range. Actually impedance of a raw driver is not constant either (well depends on the driver - planars are basically flat all the way).

Impedance ratings from manufacturers can be thought of as the average value across the range excluding the driver resonance frequency peak and enclosure resonance frequency(ies).

Long story short, the enclosure won’t do anything substantial other than at one or two very specific frequencies which are not going to show up in the manufacturer’s rating.
