What monitor mounts are you using? I have something similar been wondering how to mount my 24" inch monitor above my 34"

Top: Asus ProArt 278QV (Viewing angles are kind of crucial with the monitor that high)
Bottom: Samsung CRG9 (Bought this used for like 25% off)

Monitor Stand: AVLT-DM41-1 (Only dual fully adjustable stand I could find that could support the CRG9's weight)
Height Extension for Top: GJ Vesa Adapter Extension (Says only for GJ stands but the slots are easy and fits the Vesa mount)

The Monitor Stand was hard to get, had to wait a few months and snipe one when it was in stock (I feel like this is an issue with almost everything recently).

The Extension Adapter was crucial as the stand doesn't extend far enough to stack mount with the bottom at a comfortable height.

I actually have two height extensions, one that's adjustable and was kind of a POS and didn't support my top monitors weight even though it said it did. I ended up keeping it and having both extensions just so I could prop them much higher up if needed, but don't think I would have needed both for the position they're currently in.

Edit: I shouldn't say crucial for the viewing angles bit, but my old TN panel bothered me when I was sitting back and reading stuff.

Edit 2: Also forgot to mention that I ended up modding the original POS extension, had to remove it's adjustability to keep it from sliding down

I want to add a couple things really quickly.

Obviously everything I said was regarding my current setup, yours sounds a fair bit different

My Dual QHD has the height of a 27”, so my setup is basically two 27” monitors stacked. That said, that same monitor weighs 31ish pounds without the stand, which limited my options.

You’ve got a 34” monitor which might weigh significantly less. Also, depending on its aspect ratio, it might be taller than mine, so please feel free to use what I said as a starting point but it’s definitely not a definitive setup.

I don't recall posting a pic of my desk area, so here's one. I'm using a 49" Samsung Freesync 2 3840x1080 monitor for gaming, surfing the net and watching movies. I have a LG SL8YG soundbar, my iFi Micro iDSD Black Label is just to the top right of my fav mug in the pic, along with some of the cans I have on rotation now.

I ended up buying a 2TB Samsung T7. It is more than fast enough for my needs, which is great. For me, I am not sure the $300+ savings was worth it though as opposed to having the internal storage in the Mac Mini itself. The T7 sits awkwardly on my desk and triggers my OCD versus having had just a clean Mac Mini. I am too lazy to return and start over and am hoping I can find a better cable so that it will lay out a bit more nicely or longer so that I can tuck it away somewhere since it needs to be always connected.

I have utterly failed at getting a 30 Series Nvida card. 3 months of watching boards/discord/ alert channels. Nothing.

Put a order into shopblt.com on 15 January. And they keep bumping the date.

Newegg shuffle has had RTX 30xx cards a couple of times a week for the last few weeks, check at 11am PT every weekday and you're pretty likely to get one.

This year in general has been pretty awful with the tariff exemptions running out and seeing the price hikes across the board and all brands minus FE and Reference cards. January was bad as a result of the price hikes and AIBs being closed for New Years and then follower by things winding down for Chinese New Years/port delays/etc. Feb and Mar saw such pitiful stock but China was pretty much all closed for Chinese New Year. Even with the headphones side of things, I had nothing coming in up until recently.

The Shuffle has been not great for me, I don't recall last time one of my friends without making dozens of alts. I been entering since the beginning of the year and gotten zilch so far.

Yeah, Best Buy stock has been pretty pathetic over the past couple of drops (including yesterday's). I've been half-heartedly shooting for a 3080FE during the past few Bestbuy drops using Hotstock as my notifier. I decided to upgrade from my current Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC since the 3080FE is more viable at 4k. I might wait and see the 3080Ti presents a better value than the 3090FE.

Here in my neck of the woods, you can get an RTX 3080, but be prepared to pay ludicrous amount. The RTX 3070, like the RX 6800, is more or less available but at pretty much scalper pricing. A guy reported recently that he'd snagged an RX 6700 XT from a local brick and mortar shop (in the tech mall here) for about 743USD (Sapphire Nitro+ model, so it's one of the best RX 6700 XT air cooled models around).

I've seen the RTX 3060 12GB being sold (scalped) at an eye watering price which is just 50USD shy of an RTX 3080, prices are just nuts I tell ya! I'd first thought I was making a mistake snagging my Nitro+ RX 6900 XT at 1350USD, but looking at the mind numbing prices of cards now, pretty glad I'd jumped on my card on the 2nd of January.

Edit - Noticed a strange thing, the highest end cards from AMD and nVidia (RX 6900 XT and RTX 3090 respectively) are still relatively easily available (simply because everyone's looking at the next lower tier cards (RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080 respectively). These second tier cards are almost always OOS, and are priced waaaaay above MSRP (but then, what card isn't).

I'd wanted a PowerColor/XFX/Sapphire RX 6800 XT myself (I'd only abuy from AMD exclusive partners, just like IF I were to buy an nVidia card, it'd be from Colorful/Leadtek/Palit/eVGA and the like), but had to 'settle' for the RX 6900 XT instead simply because I've no patience for playing the waiting game.

Apologies upfront for a potentially boring advice post, but... If I was looking for a $1500 or so desktop PC for general use and possibly some gaming, what would folks suggest? It's been forever since I played anything, but I'm somewhat interested in Disco Elysium and Alien: Isolation, neither of which (I think) are super graphics intensive. It's unlikely that I'd be playing anything taxing like Cyberpunk. The PC World's, etc. of the world seem to suggest something like this:

    https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/des...desktop/spd/g-series-5000-desktop/gd5000g561h

    10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-10700F processor(8-Core, 16M Cache, 2.9GHz to 4.8GHz)

    Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, English

    NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 Ti 8GB GDDR6

    16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 2933Mhz

512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive

I link to Dell, b/c my work can get me a good deal with them.

It's also possible I'd use a rig like this for some light content creation, mostly audio production. I already have a MacBook Air and iMac (2014), however, so that's not as pressing. I'm generally led to believe that the iMac wouldn't be great for gaming, but maybe it'd work okay for some things.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

I learned recently that the bearings in my case and CPU fans can wear out (especially when you're running them as hard as I have been for grad school lately), which is likely the source of the new fan whine I'm getting. The low hanging fruit is replacing the lian li case fans, which should be easy enough, but it sounds like my bigger problem is the stock intel CPU cooler.
    • I have a i7-6700, which is only 65W, so I figure any reasonable air cooler will probably be enough to replace the stock cooler. I'm looking at something like the be quiet! pure rock slim ($25) to go as quiet as we can.
    • Are there any gotchas when you pull a stock cooler off after... 4-5 years? Looking to avoid yanking my CPU out of the socket or other dumb mistakes.
    • Anything else I should probably know? My experience with PC hardware really extends only as far as sticking in a new PCIe card/swapping RAM, so any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I always use Noctua, but I've heard good things about Be Quiet! coolers.

Since you have Intel, pulling the CPU out of the socket with the cooler will not happen, as it is locked in by a plate.

Use rubbing alcohol to remove the old thermal paste, the higher the % the better.

Depending on the cooler you may need to access the back of the motherboard. Cases usually have a cutout for this, but just something to be aware of.

I'm using Noctua, and keep good temps without much noise. On the GPU front, I decided to stop in the local Microcenter on my way to buy groceries today and scored. They had an open box MSI RX 6800 so I nabbed it. There were a bunch of 6700 XT and a couple of 6900 XT in stock plus a handful of 3060 and 3070 in the Nvidia section, evidently 3060 Ti was in earlier in the day but sold out. So if you don't need the absolute latest card maybe brick and mortar retail shops are starting to have some availability or maybe I just got lucky. Now if they'll just release Elden Ring, Bloodborne, or Demon Souls for PC... :*(

Finally replacing my aging Lenovo Y50. It can no longer run the majority of games I want to play on it, so it's being retired. It served me well for 7 years, although it was very loud and the screen was lackluster even by 2014 standards. Going between the Y50 and my desktop (about 8x the performance + nice displays) was not easy.

Lenovo Legion 5 should be here tomorrow. Ryzen 4800h and 1660 Ti, 144hz IPS panel, 16gb ram and 512gb nvme.

The 1660ti should be 300% faster than the 860M in the Y50 and won't even break a sweat with the Legion 5's beefy cooling.

I recently bought a new gaming laptop from Cyberpower on St Patrick's Day (turns out it was a great day for deals and some freebies). I got the Tracer V Edge with the Ryzen 4800h, single stick of 16gb 3200mhz, RTX 3060, 2560X1440 QHD 165Hz screen, and 1tb M.2 NVMe. Came with a $50 AMEX gift card, free copy of Outriders, free gaming mouse, and free mouse pad. Got it for $1322 shipped, which I think was a steal.

I haven't had too many chances to game on it yet, but it plays COD Cold War on high settings quite well, giving me over 100fps on average on the 2k screen.

A couple pics from the end of March when I got it:
