Never mind regarding my previous issue. All sorted with an iFi Defender. No more noise from the PC.

Sorry I mean the Sonos "One" (funny how one uncapitalized letter could potentially lead to misunderstanding)

Sonos One is not Bluetooth. Wifi only. Roam and Move are Bluetooth.

Anyone have experience with these? $30 at Musicians Friend on their stupid deal of the day. Reg price is $99. The ad copy is glorious. I suspect the truth is less so. Mostly looking for “good enough” for guitar practice, but not sucky.

I think the vast majority of us are hobbyist reviewers rather than professionals. With items that can get into snake oil territory, I think reporting the differences you hear (or not hearing any difference) is fine. Things get weird when people PUSH that items in this category make a huge difference, there is a "fuse fixer" thread which is a good example of this. I have sometimes heard differences in cables and I know I'm not alone on this forum. Appreciating your desire to share your findings while keeping within our rules.

There is a cable thread in the "Modifications and Tweaks" section. As a newcomer, and especially posting about these kinds of things it would be good to put your reviews in threads instead of creating new ones, which might generate some badd vibes. If you wrote some cables impressions in the cable thread though, it would be welcome.

How about a better amplifier for your current headphones? The J2 is really holding those two headphones back.

If my reviews are considered "professional," then this industry is doomed to low-quality bullshit from an Asian man with questionable hearing above 14k, backed only by inconsequential subjectivity hidden under ridiculous exposition with precisely zero measurements.

Jokes aside, take @rhythmdevils suggestion. Post in the relevant threads and just post about things you hear. And most of all:
    • DO NOT get offended/take it personally if people question you. Rarely does this community personally attack other members; rather we're seeking information.

I need a custom headphone cable made, what manufacturers/hobbyist cable artisans do you guys recommend?

I don't need it to be fancy or expensive, just looking for an elegant solution for my JAR650s, used sometimes with a modmic.

My problems with the current cable:

    > It's too long. My ideal length is about the same as any cable that reaches from your head to your pockets like consumer wired headphones for walking around.

    > It's too heavy. Probably a symptom of being too long, but I also don't need this heavy duty Amazon basics sheathing. Something lighter.

Bonus points if this could make using my modmic less clumsy. The modmic connects via 3.5mm. and is a separate cable dangling off my head. Would be nice if the two could be streamlined/combined in an easy to use way? Not sure how exactly. Maybe the best solution is to have the modmic rewired as well into something lighter so it's less annoying.

If there's anyone here that's made cables before that wants to tackle this, I'm happy to pay for your time and efforts in addition to the parts.

Forza Audioworks HPC mk2 1.5m or you could specify 1.2m if you really want it head to pocket length.

All the cheaper cables are thick or sound shitty.

or something from AliExpress if you want cheaper. I can send a link if you want.

Hi folks. I'm back in the game after some time out. I'm open to recommendations for a DAC as part of a decently capable, good value desktop setup at work. Here's what I currently have:

    Source: Work Laptop
Amplifier: THX 789 (just went for this on MD for $199 considering it's suitability with BA IEMs)
    Headphones: Senn HD650
    IEMs: CA Andromeda

I mainly stream over Spotify/Tidal at work and I don't really have a specific genre of music that I listen to - a little bit of everything you might say.

I'm looking for something in the price range of the Modius or the Geshelli J2. Both seem to have some flavor and punch to it, so it seems like a good synergy with the rest of my rig?

From what I've already read on here, it seems that anything on the lower end like the SDAC or Modi would bottleneck what I'd get out of the THX 789 or HD650/Andro.

One other thing is that the DAC should be as physically nondescript as possible since I'm using it at work and don't want to turn heads with any bling or flashiness.

    Would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

If you don't mind buying used, the Massdrop x Airist R-2R DAC could be a great option. It sounds very good, for the price. It leans slightly dark, which might be an issue when paired with the warm HD 650 and the dark Andromeda 2020, depending on your preferences. This shouldn't be an issue if you have the original Andromeda. FWIW, I like the Andro 2020 with this setup. Of course, it stacks nicely (and discreetly) with the THX 789.

I wouldn't pay more than $250-275 for it; some folks may try to jack up the price because it's no longer in production; as it happens, I see one listed on head-fi right now for $350, i.e. the original price, and the seller has the temerity to state "please don’t offer dramatically less than I’m asking. It wastes everyone’s time. I’m willing to negotiate but please be reasonable and respectful. This is desirable and none are for sale at the moment. I’ve seen them go for far more. Thanks."

IMO that's not a reasonable price.

I second the Airist recommendation, it’s part of my work setup. Along similar lines to this recommendation I think the Modi multibit is worth considering. It’s also dark but I think pairs well with the HD 6XX.

Something else to note, that THX amp is known to have poor tone with headphones and when I had one I didn’t like it with the HD 6XX at all. Since you have two pairs of IEMs it’s probably a smart purchase, but you may also want an affordable headphone amp. I was pleasantly surprised with the tone of the Magni 3+ if you want to stay on the budget end for now. The IEM version of the Magni is also popular and is suitable for your IEMs as well.

I would also recommend the iFi Zen Can (non signature). The staging isn't as wide as on the THX amp, nor is it as detailed (it's not that far behind in detail retrieval though), but it has a very well defined center image with some depth to it. It's also ballsy and hits harder than the THX, which is overly polite and just plain boring (I used it with a K712 and a HD650 Kiss only, no BA IEMs). The THX I used for maybe 5-6h before returning it, the iFi is still around. Very addicting sound on that thing.

EDIT: it's budget in EU, I am not sure how well it fairs in the US.

How is the Zen Can with super sensitive IEMs, like the Andromeda 2020? Any noticeable hiss to be concerned about?

There is a guy here, selling a Lyr 3, from which he is open to sell the Multibit Card.

I guess I can simply install this in my Jotunheim 2? I think it's as easy as installing a GPU in a PC.

What is actually the general census on that card? How is that thing compared to the Modi Multibit V2. From what I understand it should be worse.

Sadly I don't have a single IEM laying around to try it (and definitely nothing expensive like an Andromeda ). Sorry I can't answer that one for you.

I have never heard the card, but the consensus is that the outboard dac is better. The bigger issue for me would be the limitation to usb input. But space and an extra cable are not a big deal to me, so ymmv.
