Thank you guys, that PC will be for Roon but I would like also use it for some experiments with REW and miniDSP measurements. Zotac looks very good.

Another data point for NUC Rock Server. I went with the 10th Gen I3 version Roon recommends. It was easy to put together and get up and running. Minimal fan noise heard with running external HDD or internal HDD. The always-on availability and speed increase versus running off of my desktop is the best Roon upgrade I’ve had.
I want to eventually put it in an Akasa fanless case but there is very limited availability online that I’ve found.

I was running a mini-ITX in a fanless case until a power outage took it out about 18 months ago. I was happy enough with it that my first thought was to replace it, but the cases and power supplies were on loooong lead times. Ended up getting a Roon Nucleus shipped out overnight (which took nearly a week to get here, but that's another story).

Did anyone solved their slow Qobuz loading album art/track issues in Roon by going into their router and switching the DNS to Google Public DNS?

I had this issue on and off for a few months, until I did some research. Using the Public DNS from Google solved it.

Never had the problem, but I configured my routers (two locations) from the start to use 8.8.8.8 as primary DNS and 1.1.1.1 as secondary, just because I totally do not trust ISP DNS servers that play all sorts of games with DNS lookups for their own dastardly purposes.

I still got the error using the google dns, will try 1.1.1.1, hopefully that helps.

I don’t have experience with Qobuz or these errors specifically, but have read about DNS errors online as well especially after researching an odd streaming issue with Netflix on my Oppo (turns out it wasn’t DNS related).

What I learned is that DNS issues are typically specific to a geography and even an ISP. Some areas using Google’s or Cloudflare’s primary and backup DNS addresses may help. In some areas though, your ISP may have set up specific servers to ensure proper bandwidth management for streaming services and interaction with the content delivery networks of the streaming services themselves. In those instances, using your ISP DNS addresses may provide a more stable connection to the service because it’s even more tailored to your geography and network, especially if you do not have Google or Cloudflare servers close to your location.

Changing DNS settings to resolve this issue could mean you introduce lag into your normal page views on other devices as well, so I’d also consider running a DNS latency test (using ISP DNS as the default in the router to compare) as well to sanity check. Or perhaps using the lowest latency DNS servers through your router, as the default, and then manually configuring DNS on a specific device only to resolve specific streaming service issues as needed.

For me, Google DNS is not the fastest; my ISPs are, followed very closely by Cloudflare. However, Google’s seem the most stable for me. Page hang frequency is reduced using Google DNS vs my ISP DNS when I tested a year or two ago. May be worth testing periodically.

Minor Roon 1.8 update came out today: You can finally Skip Tracks/Play/Pause on your phones lock screen!!!!! Feature is super over-due, and I'm happy that I don't have to use it'roXs! to do something so basic. New feature also works on iOS! Do you hate doing simple stuff like skipping tracks/play/pause by going into the actual Roon app on your phone/app? Well....here you go. Update the core and the phone app for this feature to work.

Just to add to this, in iOS at least, after you update your core and the app on your phone/tablet, you need to enable the feature in Roon under “Setup”, which they are calling a beta:

I’ve been waiting for this feature for as long as I’ve had Roon (a couple of years now I guess). This is sweet.

Also same button you have to use on Android, but for me it was on by default.

Probably off in iOS by default is due to being a beta.

Have to say I’m using it while working right now and it’s awesome. No need to open the damn app on my phone every time (or keep the screen on all the time). Even while using another app on my phone, the ability to pull down from the top of my screen and pause or advance the track or jump into the app easily is sweet too. This rocks :headbang:

We give Roon a lot of credit library management, RAAT networking etc but I sometimes forget that those guys are doing superb work on SQ and DSP. I am using RME ADI-2 Pro with Roon. ADI-2 Pro DSP is a serious business but I am gradually migrating some of it to Roon because it just ..sounds better. I am particularly impressed with their implementation of the crossfeed and Audeze presets.
First crossfeed. Comparing to crossfeed implementation on ADI-2 DAC and Pro, which is very good, except when I turn on RME crossfeed the sound changes. Would not say it's better or worse but instruments just sound different. The Jan Meier's preset on Roon does not change the sound at all and, like every good crossfeed, improves the instrument separation and soundstage, and the difference is more pronounced.

New Audeze LCDX 2021 preset is really something you should try if you have a chance. As you can see from @Vtory FR and distortion graphs, the area between 3kHz and 7K is recessed and it is what, I think, makes the impression that there is a 7.5 kHz peak. It is audible.

With Roon preset LCDX 2021 signature sound does not change, it is just more neutral and cleaner, I tried to combine it with crossfeed but that does not make it any better.
I may start experimenting with migrating the 5 band EQ to Roon if they ever implement independent the L/R EQ.

Roon DSP quality becomes important if you need DSP and are considering AIO. I was leaning towards RME ADI-2 Pro over Soekris 2541 but if I keep Roon license Soekris looks better and better.

OK so it was a deemed to happen sooner or later but the Roon 1.8 build 880, and 882 is complete clusterfuck. It would not be a big issue if not for teh fact that suddenly the Roon team started behaving like..government agency.
“In our investigation, we’ve found no evidence that this release causes data corruption, or is in any way worse with respect to this topic than previous releases”
    Well:
    1. On Roon remote I cannot see 90% of my albums, Qobuz and local. Reinstalling Roon remote does not work
    2. On the core machine they are there but some local tracks are missing. JRiver can find the same tracks with no problem
    3. When I go directly to the Qobuz favorites in Roon, everything is there
    4. In my tags all tagged albums are visible and I can play them
    5. The same issues have been reported by many users.
    6. After the 880 fuckup Instead of simply giving users the option to go to the previous build, they releases 882 that fixed nothing
    7. Backup is corrupted in the same way.
    8. The worst of all: the same development team that used to respond and discuss the issues with the users community started closing threads with problem reports, and issuing idiotic factchecker like statements "There is no evidence....."

But it works for some people and here I think is the problem: the Roon development team does not have good understanding of the system and network requirements for their product.
    Edit:
Well when I was typing this I was also working on yet another attempt to start from scratch, and it worked:
    Log off Qobuz
    Drop the local storage
Restart Roon on the core with 882
Log in to Qobuz worked, and Roon could see all favorites
Added the same storage location and local files are OK
    Albums are all visible

So it was just like any other software issue that may happen any product. I did not even post in the 882 problems thread because I had nothing to add. But I cannot get over how the Roon team and Roon fanboys reacted to the problem reports. In any case it is still the best player but I cannot wait for some competition to emerge. Something has changed, and not for the better.

I don’t run Roon, I tried it for a bit but it didn’t really add anything if you mostly stream tidal via connect like I’ve been doing lately (I know it doesn’t sound as good as local files, but convenience and knowing artists make money from streams have led me here). That being said you should probably cut them a little slack as the most frustrating thing for a developer is a bug report where you can’t reproduce the problem. This is especially true if it’s some oddball edge case that can’t be tracked down even by laboriously looking through the code.

You (the generic you, aka everybody) can save yourself a lot of trouble by turning off any auto-updating mechanism (for any software) and waiting a good long time for other users (aka guinea pigs) to test the waters before taking the software update plunge on a currently working system. And consider not updating if you don’t see any changes that offer clear benefits or fix bugs you are experiencing. They don’t call it the bleeding edge for nothing.

Roon just updated again to build 884.
    Changelog: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/roon-1-8-build-884-is-live/183033

Something they should be doing is staged rollouts, a very common practice when updating software. Update only a portion of users at a time (say 10%) and wait to see if unexpected errors occur before expanding to the next 10%. Gives you a chance to abort if something goes wrong and minimizes the damage.
