So you agree more with how SBAF treats SINAD. Cool beans! That's all I wanted to hear. :headbang:

If thats the case It's a shame they're not open about it. "Shit-listed by ASR" is something I could have worn like a badge of honor at this point :punk:

As you are pointing out - do you really want to be part of a site where statements like the post in my signature are basically (maybe not as commically extreme) the school of thought?

*Wanted to post the comment here, but the thread was closed back then.
Took out the guys name but you can still find the comment in the Pi2AES thread over there.

There are over a thousand posts in this thread; there is another thread dedicated to the shortcomings of this SINAD thing; there are mentions elsewhere on the site. You can easily get the drift. Surely, you are entitled to say, hey, you guys are over-reacting. And surely, given the "drift" you are going to get predictable replies. And surely, you have gathered that SBAF is a site where people are not always in-public-polite, with each other or others. Comes under the heading of "friends."

I think the expression is a hill to die on? Do you want your SBAF membership to die on this hill? As I said before, there is so much more, so many conversations that you can have.

Except for the occasional utter arsehole, none of us relish members departing. Stick around for some other conversations.

Anyway, the thread is about ASR and Amir. Not about you. Or me. Enough of this. Wishing you well...

So I just got the Yggdrasil OG in and my linearity measurement looks, well "Slightly" different to Amir's is putting it lightly....

In the middle of a debate regarding Amir's bizarre MQA shilling, my ASR account was mysteriously rendered unusable. When I created a new account to continue responding -- responses in which I made clear that I created a new account only because my old one was no longer working -- Amir accused me of creating a sock puppet.

Time and time again, Amir or the minions, marginalize and insult. Wear the sock puppet insult as a badge of honor. Not worth the time and effort to engage in discussion with the ASR cult. Remains a source of amusement when nothing better to do. Any good information overtaken by debates over psychology, philosophy, statistics, neuroscience, etc. that do nothing positive for the audio hobby.

I have visited ASR in the past, as I was searching for info on a DAC, for a friend.
It amazed me, how an ASR member actually mentioned selling a certain audio component; because said component didn't measure well, according to Amir.
How does it sound to YOU?

I like to get a general scope of a certain component by reading reviews, because we all know many components are difficult to audition these days. It still comes down to how it sounds in your own audio system.

Amir is only the tip of a very rotten iceberg. I just stumbled across this 2019 thread while searching for something else online and the amount of misinformation, ignorance, pompous-assery, and grandiose proclamations just on this one page of comments is hard to stomach. It's a greatest hits of ASR stupidity: All amps sound alike, it is impossible to hear anything not contained in measurement squiggles, class d is better than other classes, no such thing as real audiophile equipment, and my favorite: cheap digital is always better than high end analog  - - the Funnel of Dunning-Kruger Bullshit just pumps continuously.

The Dunning Kruger effect is just a funny way of stating the four stages of learning, or the four stages of competency. These have been known psychological phenomenon for decades.

Attacking the Dunning Kruger paper for methodological deficiencies doesn't invalidate the reality.

(PS the tone of this post came out really snarky, and I didn't intend that at all. So I'm not criticising, just adding information! :) )

Absolutely agree. All they did, regardless of data was give a name to a phenomenon that many, if not all of us are all too aware of.

--- Many people do not know how to assess their competency, and probably don't even try.

--- Many of those people think they are competent in areas where they are not. But never realise it.

I think that I did read the original paper some years ago, but do not remember the details. Did they go to the next level: many people who overrate their own competence are also bad at estimating that of others. I invite the reader to consider some of the absurd promotions that they must have seen in their work places.

I recall an interesting experiment on BBC radio in 1960s. I think it was doctors or maybe medical students being quizzed on medical questions. As well as giving an answer, they were asked to rate their confidence in that answer. The winner was not the one with the most right answers, but the one with the highest score on the self-assessment. I can't have been more than 15 at the time (can associate the memory with where I lived) but was highly impressed by the concept and never forgot it.

    All absolutely spot on.

I think that's the one thing I've really enjoyed about being a scientist. It is a constant barrage of criticism, necessitating constant self assessment. It can be completely debilitating realising just how much you are truly bad at, but extremely empowering when you find those things you are genuinely good at.

So, in SR, we have a guy (and followers) who thinks that he is the absolute bees' knees in his subject, and surely rates his confidence in that at 100%.

Somewhere along the line, koolaid comes into this ---re the followers--- but those of that never drank it, even though our (my) knowledge of audio science is, at best, surface scratching, can plainly see that he is more rat's arse than bee's knees, and his self assessment is 100% wrong.

Yeah, the followers is a big one. A big group of people who are also incapable of assessing competency giving confidence and support to each other. Such is true in many areas where misinformation is prevalent in the modern world.
