Wanted a Pen-F when I was a kid --- although mostly to get the 72 instead of 36 frames per roll of film. Don't know how I would have coped with that narrow format, though, if my dream had come true, which it never did.

Looking for updated recommendations on photo-centric backpacks that don't look too much like it. I know there are Peak Design fans here, but not sure what version of the Everyday Pack some were complaining about. Anyone know if some of the strap issues were corrected in the V2? Also, has anyone had any experience with WANDRD gear? I'm not 100% sold on either as far as aesthetics go, but I want a high quality, well thought out bag.

The main thing I am looking for is a 20L ish bag that has one of those quick access side doors. I was recently in FL using my favorite Osprey bag with a Lowepro case inside. Perfect to carry, but a huge pain to have to take the pack off, dig inside for the camera case, etc. I used to have a cool Timbuk2 messenger with a camera insert, but they don't make them anymore and my aging back/neck prefers the balance of backpacks now. Also, I hike and travel and would like the bag to be reasonably appropriate for both (have enough straps and tie downs to keep the load secure).

    Appreciate any suggestions.

I use a messenger, and got a lecture on how much harm I'm doing to my back! Thing is, though, that, these days, carrying is restricted to crossing the road from the car, so it's not an issue. There's no way I'd want to carry that weight on (or even across) a shoulder for longer distances.

Not a Peak Design bag fan. My foray didn't even make it out of the house before I got rid of it. I am a Tenba fan, and having outgrown my little one, I hope to get a big one some day soon. They do backpacks too.

Bottom line and 1/10 the price of these fancy-name bags: my Lowepro packs the stuff just as well. Great value!

When I'm out hiking, I use an ordinary backpack with side zipper and a large neoprene lens pouch to protect the camera inside. To me that's a reasonable compromise between gear protection and quick access.

After watching an embarassing amount of youtube videos on camera bags, I kind of want to go this direction. I really prefer the ergonomics of hiking bags to anything else. Trying to find something that has a long zip all the way down and use some sort of quick access pouch. Unfortunately, none of my go tos have this right now.

Don't dare look at the crowd-funding sites! It's just astonishing how many people think they have discovered the camera-bag ideal and want it funded. Or use it for marketing even if they are established and have the capital already.

The ThinkThank Rotation series may fit your needs. The older Mindshift model has served me well on several hiking/forest bashing trips carrying both hiking and camera gear for 5 years. Pricey though.

Sony is expected to announce the a7IV next week. That's my likely upgrade from the A77.
Alternative is the R6 from Canon. Still not sure what I want. Ug.

I don’t know if it’s going to be big enough for you but maybe check out the Mountainsmith Spectrum. It has a side opening and they make good bags. ThinkTank stuff is really good but also expensive.

APS-C (a6500) here, and when I buy lenses, I just think "e-mount" and don't worry too much if they are aps-c of FF. But the reality rather than theory, of crop-frame hit me other day as I was using my favourite 85/1.8. That's a FF lens, but if I went for a FF camera, to get the same framing/reach, I would have to buy the 135.

And hey, I want the 135 on my APS-C anyway. That would mean a fast 200 prime on FF.

Sure, I understand. My A77 is APS-C, so I get the reach thing. The A6600 is also in the cards for me.
    I'm don't use primes. My A-mount lens are 10-20, 18-250, 70-200, 150-600.

My thinking, and backed up by others on the interwebs, is that with decent light and at f8, there's no significant difference between APC and FF.

Are you planning to use the relevant Sony converter?

Almost all my photography since covid has been concerts, on a not-well-lit stage. f1.8 to 2.8. usual max ISO 1600, occasionally 3200 when I have go wider for more depth of field. I'm sure it could be used artistically, but I don't like noise in flesh-tone shadows, or could go higher.

Look at Road Runner bags. They might be able to customize to your taste. I love the quality.

Probably. I would likely start with maybe. Tamron 18-300 as the walk around/travel lens, and use the a-mount lens as needed. I’m not sure Sony will update the 6xxx line anymore, though. I was hoping to see an a-6900, but it looks like sony went for the vlogging mart get instead of the photographers.

So many of us hoping for an a7000, but, so far, we got the a7c.

Unpredictable, and Sony play their cards close to the chest. One fine day we may be surprised.

And hey, even the a6000 is a pretty decent camera.

Well, interesting news. Sony has halted production of all APS-C cameras, the A7C, and end-of-lifed the A7II and A6100. Glad I got an A6600 when I did, and I should be getting an A7IV tomorrow, or over the weekend (according to UPS). I managed to get a whole bunch of lenses on Black Friday at really good prices, and I have until the end of January to decide what to keep. I will likely keep the A7IV.

If you want an one of these cameras, I suggest getting one ASAP before the prices spike (as they might).

    Lenses I got on BF
    APS-C:
    TAMRON 11-20MM F/2.8 DI III-A RXD

    FF:
    Sony 16-35mm Vario-Tessar T FE F4 ZA OSS
Tamron 28-200 F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD
    Sony FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS

If I stick with the A6600, I will keep the 11-20, and get the Tamron 18-300

If I stick with the A7IV, I will keep the Tamron 28-200 and the Sony 16-35. Maybe get a Tamron 17-28 f2.8 instead of the Sony. Not sure.

I also got a LA-EA5 A-mount Lens Adapter that seems to work fine on my older Sigma 70-200 F2.8 and Tamron 150-600, so I will keep those.

The Sony FE 70-200 F4 is nice, but I will just use my 2.8 with the adapter.
