Hello, just checking to see what everyone’s take on distance between your router/network switch and your audio gears? I have come across diff views some prefer to place their router/switch as far away as possible - isolate them from audio gears in different rooms. Some actually prefer to place their router/switch as close to their streamer/pc as possible .

    thanks

Pure audio nervosa. There are so many more important ways you could focus your efforts. Place your gear where it makes practical sense.

The one exception is if your wireless is being picked up by a tube. Shield your tubes, or move your wireless AP a few feet away.

I'm wondering if anyone has been able to listen to the spring 3 and Yggdrasil LIM and can share their thoughts?

I currently own a spring 3 but pondering a change to the LIM due to schiit been my preferred brand.

Follow on to that, I've seen the odd comment that LIM doesn't need the same warm up time as the OG Yggdrasil, can anyone share roughly how long this would be?

    Thankyou

[peeks up from tiny hole in ground]
Hello! I am back from outer space, not a hole in the ground
[laughs and steps in front of hole to block hole from your vision]

    Preamble/Explanation of Circumstance:

I need a second headphone for home office use now that I am bouncing from home office to actual office indefinitely, and tired of lugging my trusty HD650 to and fro every few days. For reasons that don't matter I have settled on finally trying out one of the (apparently numerous) Mr.Speakers Dan Clark Audio (?) offerings. I am down to some variety of Aeon, and maybe the Ether CX (because it's cheaper than an Ether). There are a LOT of these about!

    Actual Question:

Which Aeon? (or is the Ether CX better than all comers?)

    Considerations:
    - I will be driving with a Jotunheim and whatever DAC I land on if I decide to upgrade from my modi multibit.
    - I don't really care about isolation or leakage; open vs closed doesn't matter, I am alone in my laundry room and I face the door.
    - I just want something that isn't offensive or fatiguing to listen to while I am doing extended document review or drafting. This will not be for focused listening sessions (and the audio will almost always be streamed).
    - I don't like heavy headphones; I'm old enough to admit it hurts my head after a while, and I will be listening for stretches at a time.
    - I know all closed headphones are "hotter" (actual temperature) because of basic physics, but if one of these is actually earmuffs, I don't want 'em.
    - I don't want to have to deal with any extensive modding, these are for putting on and listening to drown out the voices or "other thoughts" in my head while I am trying to focus on work.
    - I already lurked around recent(ish) posts on these headphones and have some idea what the considerations are; feel free to add to my knowledge base, but I am seeking straight-up gut-check recommendations based on the above, please.

    Thanks!

Did anybody ever get to compare the Modi 3 to the ES9028 card? Is the Sabre card similar in technicalities compared to the Modi 3?

@aufmerksam The Ether CX is very light and comfortable. It does not sound very good at low volumes and improves a little at higher volumes. It's not offensive, just sort of bleh. No life or soul to the sound. That might actually fit your background listening use, but I think you can find cheaper headphones to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks! This is helpful, lifeless might not be bad as long as it presents adequately. However, any standouts in the "cheaper" space?

I'm not really sure what other options might be - $900 just seems like a lot to drop on casual, background listening headphones. HD6XX at $220, especially if you already like HD650, comes to mind, although maybe you are looking for something different from what you've already got. .

Yeah I was looking for something different than what I already have. Somehow its easier to justify spending 300-700 more on something I don't already own

I ask this every year only semi-seriously. Winter is coming around the corner and my office is always cold. What amp can I get to serve as a space heater/foot warmer? Must be solid state because I don't want to deal with tubes. Last year I had a Lyr3 with LISST that I left on all the time. It was ok, but not hot enough to keep my toes toasty and I've never really gotten into the Schiit sound (except for maybe a Rag1).

Yeah, I think you're onto something for @Armaegis here. A First Watt speaker amp for the HE6 could be a decent sonic match, and an excellent foot warmer. I bet existing headphone amps in the chain would work wonderfully as the preamp, and up to 100W of waste heat. Could go bridged/balanced for a completely bonkers setup.

[EDIT] Yeah, my silly suggestion is F4 monoblocks. Just a pair of massive unity gain buffers after your preamp.

Geez guys... I have *some* money to throw around, but I don't have Pass Labs kind of money

(and this would probably not be for my HE-6...well maybe, but not strictly)

Well, DIY variant of course. Not that it saves that much money.

I couldn't find a Schiit SYS thread. But would a SYS work fine as a cheap device to allow me to use two RCA amps off my Modi?

Yes. But you could get a splitter cable for less than a SYS, and you wouldn't need to switch.

You and I both know "saving" money on DIY is a laughable justification at best

Ah, ok that would be handy as I'd probably mount the SYS under my desk. I'll just get a splitter cable then.

Beware a new, fraudulent audio sales site: themusicroom.shop

Apparently they scraped much of the real Music Room sales website ( tmraudio.com ) and are listing the inventory at too low to be true prices.

Just in time for your christmas scamming needs.

Does anyone have a 1in // 3out RCA switcher they can recommend that won't significantly degrade sound? Don't mind 1 additional input / output but more importantly trying to keep it under $100/150.

If it matters, it's going to be DAC out >> non TOTL amps.
