I know some of you guys are loving the new Fulla E, and waiting for Schiit to roll out their ESS-based DACs on their other product lines.

Thread reboot, thx hacker for deleting the original.

Yeah. Fulla E is a bit crispier. Old Fulla was slightly warmer (with Hel 2 even warmer - too much for me). For those who prefer the old AKM based Fulla, oh well. The AKM factory burned down.

Still waiting for the ESS Modi. Maybe after the holidays and the AKM Modi 3+ flies off the shelf.

@pure5152 posted this photo of a employee revealing the McRib before the announcement. I Havn't had one in a few years, but I hope its better than the impossible stuff I had this year. [IMG]

    I went to McD the other day to see what the local offerings they have for the French market. First up is the goat cheese wrap;

    3CDDFFE5-BCD6-4913-948A-58A2F1BD7DFB.jpeg

These are pucks of fried goat cheese with lettuce, tomato and some kind of sauce. The goat cheese itself actually isn't so bad. The accompaniments are just so this could be classified as a meal. I give it a 5.2/10

    Next is the McBaguette

As the name indicates this is basically a burger with baguette instead of a regular bun. First this is a pretty authentic baguette. Outside is pretty crusty and the inside seems like it has some texture like a properly fermented dough. Far superior than Lee's Sandwich bread. The beef patties are the same as a typical McD burger but this had cantal, lettuce and a rustic mustard spread. Not disappointed

    6.9/10

I recently went to a McDonalds here in Madrid (well, actually in a smaller town around 5 miles away). I haven't been to one in ages, it's simply to expensive for what you get.

Man did it suck! Bread was thin and soggy, and then they used that typical thin burger meat they have. They put two of them between the slices of bread, with 2 types of cheese. I also got fries. That's it, that's what I got for 9€. A soggy burger (got crazy soggy from all the cheese), a drink (no refill here), and a small bunch of fries. I am still sad and that was 2 months ago LOL.

I was drunk though, so I had a good time still. Everything is much better when drunk! Even McEspañolDonalds. I wonder if McDonalds is just as meh in the US as here. IMO, BurgerKing is quite a bit nicer. At least you can refill your cup with cheap coke (always tasted watered down to me).

This is supposed to be pork, but I wonder if this is some other other white meat?

Otherwise, the newish quarter pounder w/ cheese that uses never-frozen beef is fantastic.

@señorhifi the McDs here in the States suck pretty bad. Last time I went to one was about 3 years ago. I have to agree with you that BK's food is much better than McD's but it more expensive. BK's spicy chicken is darn good. I guess, in fast food at least, you get what you pay for.

Are there any fast food brands in the US that are worth it? Here in Spain, I usually go for pizza (Papa Johns ftw) or kebab (any random kebab place), when I need something quick. Also burgers from the local bars are miles ahead of anything from BK and McDonalds.

hahaha, no clue why I find this so funny. Le McBaguette! Unfortunately, McDonalds Spain doesn't offer anything typical spanish. Imagine a McPaella (uff they would really screw that one up) xD.

We've had a resurgence in good-to-great fast-ish food burgers, at least around where I live in the U.S. Around here, the flat top burger joint got going with a local (now franchise) chain called 5 Guys starting back in 1985 or 1986. Back before they went franchise, they had a shop next door to a bike shop I worked at. We comp'ed the line cooks bikes since many didn't have cars, and they left any orders that weren't picked up outside our back door. I ate about a million and a half burgers that summer.

We also had the only hose bib in the the back parking lot, and one of the 5 Guys owner's sons would come by and wash his recently acquired Dodge Viper behind the shop, and give us a round of burgers on the house. So that was cool.

Anyhow, there's fierce debate over the smash burger preferences between in-n-out burger and whataburger. Personally, I'm an in-n-out guy. whataburger is good, but you can tell the difference is in the quality/freshness of the ingredients in in-n-out, and less of the menu is prepped outside the store compared to whataburger.

But both of those chains aren't in my region, or really anywhere outside CA and TX, though whataburger has smaller numbers of locations in other southern states.

Then, there's the glam-a-fication of the smash burger style, thanks to Shake Shack starting up in Central Park, NYC. Think, in-n-out with a higher focus on freshness and quality of ingredients, run by pro chefs that got tired of the pro chef lifestyle. Bougie In-n-out. Now, thanks to the enterprising nature of Shake Shack's founders to move straight into franchising with a super-tight brand focus, they've got locations all over the U.S.

Now there's all sorts of competing smash burger style shops popping up, so, yeah, we've kind of gotten a bit snobby about the quality of the ingredients, more than just the consistency within brand of our burgers. I'd say, we've ('murrica) come a long way from the styrofoam McDLT days of what most people think of our cardboard hamburgers, thankfully.

Also, only idiots go to Taco Bell, because there are literally a dozen taquerias run by mexican grandmas serving delicious de lengua tacos within 15 minutes of my house.

One doesn’t eat at Taco Bell for real Mexican food. It’s its own thing. Like fake meat (see fake meat thread).

    Quick grade d beef.

Five Guys is yuppies overpriced burgers just like Northern VA being $$$$$ to live in.

Whataburger is pure Jesus amen cause it is from TX and they know bigger holy good food. Amen once again...just like real Jesus (Chick-fil-A). You also have to get some Jesus Water (Sweet Tea) when getting a burger from Whataburger.

Never had In-N-Out Burger, it might be too political for my taste in my mouth. The "secret" menu reminds me of the stereotypical "secret" Chinese food menu at legit restaurants.

The reports of McRib of how it was made is nothing new. Our own @neogeosnk can discuss a little bit more about that McRib sauce since guess where he actually works? Hint: They are HQ in Chicago area and makes us fat.

If you're looking at these southern united states, even so far north as Maryland (or maybe Pensylvania), you can't go wrong with a decent piece of chicken between some kind of bread. Talking only chains, you got your sammich places like Chick-fil-A or Popeyes and then you got your biscuit places like Bojangles. I'll take Bojangles any day over the others and a big part of why is that sweet tea-- you get more tea & more sweet vs. your ordained chicken filets. I don't know if Rise counts as a chain-- I've seen a bunch of them down in RTP and there are a couple up here in MD, but who knows where else they go-- but that's a hell of a chicken biscuit too.

A little commentary about American food in France.

Many bakeries in France have donuts and cookies and several restaurants offer burgers as well. These are all generally executed very poorly.

A lot of this I believe is because the restauranteurs never traveled to the US to experience these firsthand and only know of them through popular media. In the case of donuts the popular conception is from Homer Simpson eating pink frosted donuts. So you see a lot of donuts that look exactly like what you see on the Simpsons but they are all baked with radioactive colored frosting. There's really no excuse for this since they can make beignets well and those are fried. Just making a donut shaped beignet would be far better than what I find.

For chocolate chip cookies they look exactly like how they are supposed to but the French conception of anything flat and baked is it must be crispy. They have no idea they are supposed to be chewy and you end up with something dry and crunchy.

First hand experience of burgers is from McDonald's and not only are they the biggest burger chain in the world but one of the biggest corporations in existence. I believe this has also led French people to think that the McD burger is the ideal model to base burgers on and so any small restaurant here with burgers tends to also make a thin overcooked patty with vegetables and burger sauce. This disappoints me quite a bit because I often see steak-haché sold everywhere. Steak-haché is basically chopped beef formed into a patty and considered a cheaper version of a typical steak, often served with fries and eaten with a knife and fork. I almost never have a bad steak-haché and I am constantly confused why they don't just make that and stick it in a bun.

This may or may not be the thread for it, but I would love for our international members to post more local McDonald's menu items like @Cspirou did. Last time I was in Japan, I saw a shrimp burger as well as a steak and egg burger (actually had this one and it was exactly what you would expect from a McDonalds). Also had some small fried croquettes.

They have such interesting stuff in some of the India McDs. Can we get some detail from our India-based correspondents?

Well if nothing else this brings a McSomething that was heavily advertised that I personally only got to try once in high school. Was pretty meh about it but then again given how much rice I ingest on a daily basis...

I vaguely remember the same concept more or less taking off elsewhere. Japan maybe?
