Slightly OT, but a question for friends in the EU. I'm trying to purchase a used watch from a private seller on Chrono24, and he doesn't want to sell outside of the EU "because the customs tax system is very dissuasive so that I can deal internationally".

Is that really the case for anything I purchase from someone in the EU? I have paid customs for things "imported" to me (ie., a watch that I purchased a few years from Germany). Does the seller pay some sort of export tax as well?

    Thanks

I’m not a big g-shock fan but I like that one.

Here is my Seiko Turtle SRP777 on a James Bond Nato Strap (New Bond). Wish I could afford the Omega that goes with it. Maybe one day.

Not sure why it took me this long to discover this thread!

Anyhow, I like watches quite a bit and currently own 3 of them:

    20220113_170701.jpg

Some Frederique Constant. Not actually completely sure the name, but I do know it's one of the "Heartbeat" watches they make and has a FC-941 movement (which I believe is a modified ETA). This is the first watch I ever got; I received it as a gift when graduating high school.

    20220113_170919.jpg

This is an old Longines Hydro Conquest. This was a watch bought by my grandfather on my dad's side in 1991. I found it about half a year ago when reorganizing boxes and decided to get it serviced and get the seals checked. It's in fantastic working order, and has turned into my daily driver.

    20220113_171053.jpg

My newest watch and one that I always really liked despite the extremely busy dial. Not sure why the Navitimer gets a pass when I'm typically not a fan of watches with busy dials and tons of complications, but I digress. Unfortunately I have yet to receive the watch strap that I ordered when I bought this watch (right now the strap is too long for my slender wrist). For those curious, this is the 43 mm version since the 46 simply put looks ridiculous on me.

Something I have been wanting for awhile and managed to score it on sale. I can't imagine them restocking these Stainless versions for the 25th Anniversary many more times. Pretty sure it's a limited series. Anyway, I have liked the look since they released awhile back.

I don’t know what the board will do with a tiktok (nothing as it turns out) but this is a really cool condensed comprehensive servicing of a Rolex.

After a lot of thinking I am sure of one thing. If I want to enjoy my watches I have to wear most of them on a daily basis.

I gave away my Seiko Solar Diver and my Citizen Eco-Drive Diver. They did not see enough use. I am only going to keep two or three beaters and call it a day. The few pretty or special watches that remain can stay.

My Steinhart and G-Shock are such good daily watches that I cannot justify a big collection.

Has anyone seen the Kudoke 2 in person before? Interested in one eventually but something tells me there's a small chance that these may be much more captivating in a picture vs in person.

I could make an account and ask on a watch forum or whatever, but I feel like SBAF is generally pretty honest about stuff.

EDIT: for anyone wondering, saw one a few days ago and I really liked it but there would have to be a few minor changes made to it before I would buy it myself.

Bulgari made the world's thinnest watch at 1.80mm. In order to achieve this the movement is integrated with the case instead of separately. When it’s this thin you have to worry about bending which meant the case was made with tungsten carbide.

There's an idiotic QR code the front associated with an NFT that goes with it. It ruins everything

edit: realized that “worlds thinnest watch” should have a side view

I have not seen this watch, but I do have some general opinions about watch buying. Before trying it on at a sore or watch meet, see if you can find a high quality wrist roll video. The video can provide a sense of how the light plays off the surfaces and also the profile on the wrist. I have a small collection and keep specs on each piece. This means that a watch with these general specs works for my small 6.75 inch wrist:

no more than 12 mm thick
    42 mm or smaller diameter
20 mm or smaller lug distance
45 to 48mm lug to lug distance

From there, it all comes down to design decisions such as flat vs curve case back.

I hope you are able to try the Kudoke 2 in person. Trying on watches remains the best way to dial in what works for you. See if their is a Redbar group in your area.

At least put it on the case back. They could have etched a cool logo instead

If I know anything about NFT bros though is that they absolutely want to make sure that you know they have an NFT

    My two theories:

    1. Free press coverage for this ridiculous stunt
    2. Add a feature to appeal to the those who are into conspicuous displays of wealth.

It is a marvel of horological machining and manufacturing that Bulgari could produce such a thin watch with those complications. They didn't need to go ruining the face with the QR code. Bulgari strikes me as more of a high end look at me brand more akin to fashion when compared to other industry stalwarts such as Vacheron Constantin or Patek Phillipe.

There are several watches that I wouldn't keep if given to me. Most Richard Mille and many Bulgari fall into this category.

I used to have a vintage 60-ties Marlin.

Such a lovely watch and it still ran well. Timex is fun and classy. Just like Swatch they combine fun and function better than most watch brands and/or manufacturers.

Timex watches go way back into my childhood. They were afordable. They had an advertising jingle, something like tick-a-tock-timex. I had a college mate who's dad was retired from advertising: turned out that he wrote the jingle.
