He hacked a legit usam and paypal account I think. The name on the PayPal account at the time I paid was a regular old name, Dylan Linkerd. I paid and then today the name and email on the PayPal account had changed to Amuanatte Likn with a completely different email. Didn't know PayPal would just allow a change like that.

A bogus tracking mumber was provided to Paypal. It shipped and delivered within the same day. Nothing arrived at my house, I don't understand how they can do that.

Via email I was given a seemingly legit and different track number by the scammer that is still in transit. It weighs 2 lbs according to ups tracking. Also baffled by this one. Both only serve to obscure to PayPal the scam.

I will probably have to put up a fight with PayPal on this one, this is not the first time this has happened to me.

Definitely seems like it went astray, sorry to hear that. This part though is super interesting. Did the package show it was picked up and delivered the same day, or just delivered the same day tracking was provided?

If it is the later, this is a pretty good variation of a previous scam. When I've been on the receiving end I went to the local UPS center (in person) with the documentation of sale and ask them where it was delivered. Their 1-800 number will not provide it over the phone.

I don’t think you’ll have to fight much, I had something similar happen, explained to PayPal when I filed a dispute and they sided with me in less than 10 minutes. I think these scams are prevalent and PayPal knows it.

Yeah this one sounds pretty easy to dispute based on all of that sketchy as hell info. Fingers crossed for you that it's quick.

I have not made a purchase outside SBAF for a number of years now. However lately I've been tempted by a couple of things on Head-Fi. Is it about the same as audio mart as far as legit to scammer ratio, or is there no real difference between these sites?

I went through a strange, inexplicable scam recently that seems similar. It worked out in the end, though. I bought an 800S on Mercari and got a tracking number on the 8th and on the 12th it was marked as delivered by USPS. I was pretty certain nothing had been delivered (my office overlooks the package drop-off zone at my place, and [knock on wood] I've never been porch pirated). It looked like a legit tracking number and it showed that it was dropped off at my place (I'd been previously scammed on a Jecklin Float energizer where I received a pack of socks instead, so they could "show" that their package had been delivered, and another time where the package was delivered to some other address).

I lodged a complaint with Mercari, and a search with USPS. It confused the hell out of me because USPS showed the package was legitimately delivered to my home address - like how do you hack USPS? The tracker was legit, they didn't find some old previously-used tracking number, and I followed the shipment progress daily.

Anyways, about 5 days later I got a note from Mercari that they refunded my PayPal payment with no explanation.

You are too smart to post this. Head-Fi have a feedback system, and trust your gut while eating pizza when speaking to anyone selling something.

I personally never had issues with Head-Fi since I am smarty pants over 10+ years.

Head fi has some good traders that been around a while but there's a million other people on there. If I haven't traded with the person before and they have no feedback I just don't even go there. Also be careful selling to anyone on there that's knew or you don't know as well.

It is very common to hack paypal account these days. Best resort is 2 steps authentication. A nuance alright but better safe then sorry. Never rely on password and always set for 2nd Authentication like OTP on mobile etc.

That would be my problem - I have had an account there for years (crenca, same as here) but have done very little commenting and neither bought nor sold there.

Yea @YMO , trust your gut but these recent scammers are pretty sophisticated. Maybe I will have you do some buying and selling for me over there for a small teeny tiny fee, perhaps a hair removal wax kit...

You guys made me worry, so just added 2 factor on paypal using my phone.
Figured it was worth a little more hassle to be safe.

My friend's email got hacked and then those guys tried to get into his Paypal account but 2 step authentication on Paypal account saved him. Many a times banking software when detect new location or device ask for 2nd step but why not make it mandatory from our side. It's just a hassle but a good one.

I've got some trades there going back but don't post much. The other problem is hackers getting into accounts of reputable people. It's kind of hard if I know you over here but someone stole your account over there... Clusterfuck. Thankfully my rabid gear/trade/upgraditus/fomo habits are mostly behind me these days.

This is probably an iteration of an older scam that's showing up now. They'll make a prepaid label which tells the system your address (and with a random name on it). Then by hand they'll white-out and change the number to a neighboring house.
    1. The neighbor who received the actual envelope will see a random name and be confused by an empty envelope. If they saw your name they would probably deliver it to you.
    2. The scan will show delivered really close to your house.

Most items that travel through USPS now are scanned, so if you run into an issue getting a refund head to your local distribution office and ask for a picture of the label they scanned.

Buggers, the whole lot. Still the #1 scam is sending money via venmo/zelle.

I wanted to bring your attention to this ebay seller Dr.bag. I bought a 12AV5 sweep tube amp and matching preamp pair from him 10 years ago. Still works flawlessly and wonderful sound. But his skills and parts choices do appear to have improved. He uses oddball tubes that are inexpensive and easy to obtain too so the tube cost is low. He builds the amps or whatever and listens to them for months before he sells them so you know they will work. I recommend you give these a look.
Technically these are used. I consider them burnt in and fully tested. I posted this in the deals thread too and I hope that is not an issue. if so, I apologize.

The "deals" threads aren't a good venue for this. It would be much better to start a discussion in the AMPs section with a short review of the units you purchased 10 years ago. How they sound, build quality, longevity etc.

I do not think these will last long that is why I posted here. So somebody sees them. A review is a good idea though.

Edit: Review posted in power amps.
