Would we really could put the hd800 drivers into the enclosures of the sr007?

"Super Dupont" received and installed. They are def attenuating the treble spike down as well as my previous EQ without crushing the air as much. Very early impressions but I like it a lot. Thank you so much Sorrodje! I will post a lengthier impression when I have more seat time.

Package received, nothing squished, they look perfect. Thanks @sorrodje ! Will install tonight and report back in conjunction with the various other current mods.

My package arrived safely today. They were a little tough to get started into the hole (Very tight fit). Giving them a thorough listening session now!

    Thank you Sorrodje.

Not that we need any more proof that these resonators work, but they really really sound fantastic. Better separation of the soundstage, cleaner mids that are more present, maybe tighter bass? Either way - huge improvement.

I've been listening to records for about 2 hours now and enjoying myself, not getting fatigued which used to happen with these headphones after about 45 min. I am currently doing cork mod, sbaf absorber mod, and the SD resonator. Might be overkill - but I wont take em off to try and see if I would like better without absorber.

I've actually since that original quick measurement taken many more and noticed no real increase in bass distortion. Not sure what was happening with those original measurements.

Resonators (look professionally made, fit snugly) have been installed. This mod does show consistency!
    Measurement on my rig:

These are very much like the classic HD800, tonality seems unaffected, bass distortion does not get worse, and MUCH of the harshness that could formerly be experienced on some tracks has gone. I cannot imagine anyone who has listened to these, will feel the urge to take out the resonators again. Very well done Sorrodje, I certainly like the results very much.

    Thks @stratocaster.

Did you take care to push the SD resonator at the bottom of the hole and then pull the drilled creatology disc flush to the top ? it ensures the biggest cavity and the maximum performance IMO.

Results are indeed consistent but not similar. it could be measurements difference but I think the precise positionning matters. I didnt experiment to squish the resonator at the bottom to see if the results were different. I always pulled off a bit the creatology part to leave it flush to the top.

Relative consistency is a good point though. the SD resonator is designed for that purpose ( easy do DIY, close to HD800S, easy to consistently produce, consistent results was the specs)

There will always be differences when you look at measurements taken on different couplers, microphones, etc. Positioning, seal, pressure etc. are all variables that have great effect and may impair comparison. What matters, though, is that we see the relative differences (on a special rig) that mods make and that we have a common reference point, like measurements of an HD600 on that very same rig, so that we can assess a headphone's measurement on the background of the reference point.

So, I just installed brand-new HD800 pads, made sure the resonator was pushed to the bottom and the creatology raised back up flush.

Might be interesting, as above (new pads, resonator)but with a small velour pad as 'inlay' around the driver opening:

Yes ! Much better. see how the 4 khz is no more dipped and the 4 khz to 6 khz range is much more lifted ;) and that's definitely more in line with my own results.

@Tyll Hertsens : If you have some time, it would be interesting to check if your resonators are perfectly fitted ( paper at bottom, Creato flush to the top, resonator fully extended in the hole ) and measure it.

I'll write a reminder about mounting in the summary.

About Distorsion, I'm almost convinced I did all measurements of my attemps way too loud. Need to check my SPL calibration. :drunk:

Pretty sure I had them in like that. I fidgeted with them a bit to get it to line up. I'll double check and take new measurements when I can.

Maybe Tyll could find some time and try a velour inlay as described in my 'Neutralize the HD800' thread?

sorrodje, just curious why you closed one side of the resanator, why there is no holes in both sides, the result was bad?

@listen4joy : Fully closed your mean ? on top and on the bottom ? the most "closed" attempt I did ( creato, felt, rubber , tips ) gave bad results. Improvements came when I understood the Seen resonator was a cavity so I tried to mimic that ;)
