If that Anthem is balanced, I would be very careful to not use that adapter. It will destroy your headphones.

It is not truly balanced, it basically just has a set of vanity XLRs for gear that might use it. I plan to re-terminate to 4pin xlr any way though. Currently listening to it versus my lyr2 with a sys inline so I can have more useful volume adjustment. It sounds pretty damn good.

    Straight from the horses mouth:

What about the whole circuit from front to back - is it fully balanced?
No. At some point the signal must become single-ended, or interference can't be cancelled. This is better done sooner rather than later in the signal chain. The purpose of a balanced stage within a circuit is cancelling out nonlinearities arising in the circuit itself, and/or to double the signal level while cancelling out some noise. This is purely a means, not an end. We use a balanced arrangement in specific areas within a circuit where it makes a meaningful difference. Doing this to an entire piece of equipment for the sake of using the catch phrase "fully balanced" may achieve nothing but a significant increase in cost, or worse if the two halves of the circuit aren't matched well.

Sorry didn't see the last part where you said it's got a shared ground. It's good that you know though!

It should also sound good with dynamic headphones too but not much volume play. I heard Bill's HD580 and OJ's HD800 (though I assured him I'd buy him another pair if I blew them) and they were super clean through my amp.

Yeah, I know my way around circuits and irons a bit, so I'm not quite that foolish thankfully. I agree, switching between the LYR 2 with LISST and the Anthem on my HD800s right now and damn is this thing clean sounding. Monday is going to suck as I work and have a night class, so my play time will be very limited. It looks absolutely ridiculous on my desk though, I think I'll need to run to IKEA and get cheap lack side table to put it on. Could be in my head but it feels like it has a stronger grip on the bass than the Lyr 2 does, slightly less warm, slightly better separation, and it's noticeably less noisey versus high gain Lyr 2.

I notice you didn't put the fuzzor mod on the back -- so I take it then that doing so is not necessary?

Most people don't use the fuzzor mod with the Audeze Vegan pads. It becomes too dark and clarity is lost.

    @ohhgourami

What are the prevailing mods for these puppies?

1.Vegan Pads(how do they attach the stock ring, tape, velcro?)
    2. Removal of the junk cotton/batting
    3. Blutack(where does this go?)

I'm kinda tooling around the headfi trheads but I'm not finding much in the way of how, just that people have done it etc.

A new Dark Lord has arrived.

Honestly, if these sound this good fresh out of the box, my HD800 might need to start getting worried.

Vegans will be here Wednesday. I have velour and Focus A in the house...which of the three do you suggest for now?

    Vegan...definitely Vegan...

Makes the weight almost trivial. Just have to deal with how weird it looks on the smaller cups.

The Focus/stock velour will be the best bet out of what you currently have.

Swapped to the focus, definitely more comfortable. I forgot how bad those pleathers were I think I lived with them about week back in the day on my HE-500 before buying J$ pads.

I prefer the stock velours over the Focus pads. Actually the old production pads that came on early models were the best of what HFM made but had very very fragile locking tabs.

I think I missed those on my HE-500, I had the same 4 tab black disc as this pair of HE-6 does.
