The agreement I'm taking about is between the person writing the review and Amazon. You have to check a box indicating that you wrote it, and it's your honest opinion or something or other.

There's also the website ToS that you essentially agree to when you use Amazon. You have to agree to them when you create an account, and there's probably some language in there to classify false reviews as a breach of contract.

Apologies for the necro post, but apparently LH Labs is finally attempting to make things right for the Verb debacle.
If anyone here was an original backer, you can follow this link to order a new set for $15 in "shipping costs".
LH Labs will confirm your backer status through your email I guess.
    http://marketplace.lhlabs.com/products/vibrato-domestic-shipping-replacement

Text of the email they sent out today (04/06/16) to backers:

    "Dear [Verb Backer],

Last year LH Labs designed a completely new in-ear headphone that we thought we’d be proud of: an entirely original design with a wonderful sound we wanted you to experience. Unfortunately, we were NOT proud of the units that arrived from the manufacturer: not only did they sound nothing like our original design, we discovered (through you) the manufacturer took our industrial design and sold it to others.

We have definitely not forgotten about the experience and we’ve been working very hard to make it up to you. We know that apologies alone don’t go very far so we’re doing our best to restore your confidence in LH Labs. Over the last year, we’ve completely redesigned both the single ended and balanced IEM, ran through multiple iterations until both the tuning and the measurements were up to our standards, and sourced a trustworthy manufacturer for our new design. There’s a lot that goes into re-launching a product like this, but here are some of the highlights:

    • We worked with Peter Duminy, our LH Labs board advisor with decades of headphone and loudspeaker design experience including background with BBC, B&W and Stax, to design and tweak the acoustic performance

    • We went through multiple driver materials until we landed on 6u titanium

    • We developed an enhanced chamber design to eke out tight, realistic bass from the driver

    • We ran a quiet and extensive beta test with some hand-picked listeners, took their input, and did some final tweaking
We’re now ready to release and have decided to give our in-ear headphone line a new name: Vibrato

As an apology to you, we’d like to send you a pair of Vibratobefore it’s sold retail for just the cost of shipping. This is only free to the original backers of the VERB IEM Perk on Indiegogo last year (we’ll verify eligibility against our customer database). To accept our offer and apology, please click on the link below. We anticipate that it will take us five weeks to get every unit shipped out. The link will be open and available untilMonday, April 18th.

Above all, having you as our customer is what enables us to create the products we love. We hope that our actions will speak louder than words and you’ll love the Vibrato as much as we do.

    Take care,
Larry, Gavin & The LH Labs Team"

*Lastly... f**k Casey Hartwell for all the fake reviews he tried to push last year. He should have been honest about this from the start. Now I just consider him a straight up liar.

They are offering a good gesture, but I highly doubt that the "5 weeks" was actually meant to be 5 years.

I have over 50 emails with Casey and other LH crew...

When LH sent out emails over the geekwave32 debacle, they STILL had the details wrong for my order.

LH Labs customer service is a giant mess and I don't look forward to them screwing up in however many months it takes for the geek wave to come out. I'm actually kinda dreading it. If I could have a full refund right now, I'd take it.

I can tell you things on the inside are improving. The move to the new building and the systems improvements should make a world of difference for fulfillment, order/customer management and support.

I made sure a member of SBAF (@velvetx) validated the final tuning of the Vibrato before this email went out.

Larry tuned them himself. Peter Duminy consulted on the whole project. The ID and product itself is all custom. I haven't heard the IEM myself yet but I'm hopeful (I suggested Nick as I have an ear infection and can't use IEMs right now).

Casey's a good dude. Don't be a dick. LH Labs was his first tour in audio and those were not paid for reviews. The reviewers might not have know IEMs but he didn't have anything to do with that.

Sounds good to me! Was not expecting it, so kudos to them. I actually did not mind the original verbs and used them extensively as beater headsets until they gave up the ghost. (the plug broke and the actual resonance box came undone). I am vaguely ashamed of how cheap I am, but I glued them up and they still work. In the meanwhile I got a pair of Senns Sport that do an amazing job for on the go, jogging, commuting etc. Looking forward to the new Vibrato - hopefully the plug is redesigned at 90dg angle so that it does not brake as easy.

Edit: looking at the plug in the email picture, its same as the original so may go down as fast as the first one if used on a phone and carried in a pocket.

I mean what I say. If you think me a dick for saying that, so be it. I'm here to be honest, not popular.
Maybe he was just "doing his job", but that act added significantly to the "noise" level if you haven't noticed.
Anyways, I'm not here to get into yet another pointless argument over f'ing LH Labs. Do what you will with the info I posted. Have a nice day.

This has nothing to do with LH Labs and everything to do with you dragging Casey's name through the mud. You just said "f**k Casey Hartwell for all the fake reviews he tried to push last year."

None of those reviews were fake. We're they shitty reviews from randoms? Sure. But they were actual reviews. None of those folks were paid a dime and none of them were company shills. I personally found the Verb to sound terrible and was pretty open about it. I doubt Casey knew much about this since he was a marketing guy and left a while back.

I can unequivocally say your "f**k Casey" is what makes you a dick, not your opinions of the company or products. He's a super nice guy who has done a shitload of solids for the community. I'm not going to sit here while you spew vitriol about him.

Casey's always been nice to me and on the boards.

That's good because I'm going to have talk him again a whole lot when LH sends me the wrong geekwave!

Edit: Oh, he's gone now? I wish him the best.

I know. I'm a dick and I admit it. I'm cut and dry, and I don't mince my words. Was your lecture supposed to make me feel bad or remorseful for what I wrote?

Look, here's the thing. Casey was great. I'm not sure I'm much of a fan of LH Labs. It's not fair to dump on Casey. He clearly left LH Labs because it wasn't a good fit.

It's the system not the man to be upset at.

No, I think the counter arguments were supposed to highlight that this is a forum where even vitriol needs to be substantiated.
Like you, I'm a victim of the customer service at LHlabs. Still waiting for my Geek Wave. Had to upgrade from the cheapest version when they decided they wouldn't produce that any more; it was not a happy moment. So, maybe your anger is somewhat justified.
But the "fake reviews" point is misinformation. And slandering a guy who doesn't deserve it is uncalled for. No reason to be surprised or upset when things like that get called out.
