I'm another one who prefers HD600 to HD650. The appearance of the HD600 has really grown on me as well :).

Can I seek the help of any HD600 user out there regarding the grill cover for the HD600. I just noticed that the pair I own has a fit issue on the left side where the grill cover doesn't sit flush with the headphones. The lower portion close to the cable cant seem to be pushed in. Am I supposed to be using more force or something? o_O

Try turning the grill around they have cut outs on one side for the cable.

Well I found the solution to my own problem. Unfortunately it was too idiotic to mention on here. I might have been permanently banned for stupidity reasons.

If someone is looking for a somewhat ok deal on the HD600 amazon has them for $400 with a $150 gift card that is mailed to you, so you can't apply it to the headphones. That is about $20 more than the cheapest price I've seen in a couple of years if you buy a lot from amazon and count the GC as equivalent cash value.

    I bought Stratocaster's modded HD600/580.

He made it more neutral by decreasing the mid-bas bump. A great headphone for a good basic headphone system.

That's how I bought mine recently, right after it shortly became unavailable or out of stock, and it went right back to unavailable for a few days after I bought it too... Then lo and behold it came back and it's been available again for a solid week (I keep getting NowInStock notifications I forgot to turn off).

Kinda bizarre seeing as it's listed as a 'winter' (holiday?) deal and the gift card image even depicts as much, I believe Newegg ran the same deal during the holidays but it's been long gone for a while (not to mention a Newegg gift card is probably less convenient overall).

There's a similar deal on the HD650 but it's a $100 gift card instead and only brings it down to $400 (think it's been $300 w/o GC shenanigans during the holidays), it's also down to $350 as B Stock at Headphone.com. I think both deals were mentioned on the deals thread.

I know a lot of people prefer tubes with the HD6x0, but within that, do you guys generally try to pair the HD600 with a slightly warmer amp or is that too broad a generalisation?

I've been looking at the Valhalla 2 since many praise the pairing with HD6x0 but the fact that others call it a little lean or lacking in impact gives me some pause, I'm kinda wondering if it's really better with the HD650 than the HD600...

Or whether I'm just reading too much into it all and I'm just seeing natural differences in personal preference. I don't think I wanna go too far in the other extreme either tho (Crack?), but I realize at that price point nothing is perfect (or at any, but more so at that price point).

Also looking at Lyr 2 & Ember FWIW, for the versatility as well as the apparent sound sig on Lyr.

Well, I just love mine with Asgard 2. Never tried it with tubes, except my old X-CAN V3 which was actually hybrid...

The HD600 sounds great out of the Ember with a 6N6P tube.

It's a darker tube, which didn't do well with the 650. With the 600, however, it really was a nice pairing.

Looking for an inexpensive aftermarket cable for my HD600. 6ft length, preferably as light and flexible as stock. Any ideas?

I bought one of those recently, feels pretty well built, haven't actually used it much because I'm in the midst of a move (hate moving, with a passion)... I think I might've gone too short tho (1.2m), I didn't want it dangling around or catching on stuff on my new desk.

I might go for a slightly longer one from Impact Cables on Etsy (linked by @Skyline )... I think one or two SBAFers have bought cables from that guy and they're pretty happy with them.

Not exactly cheap compared to stock or NewFantasia but given the customization options it's actually far cheaper than most of the custom built alternatives out there (outside of DIY), that I've seen anyway.

My impact audio cable just came in for my HE-500, the eidolic rhodium termination and splitter look great :D

On a more related note, I recently upgraded from a magni 2u to a lyr 2 as my first tube amp and I think it improved my HD600 even more than my HE500. Makes me wonder what an OTL amp would sound like with the 600s..

EDIT: heres a picture if anyone's curious
