I look at what you're doing and I feel joyful. It seems that member/ community tables have been cancelled entirely at the first ever Canjam Singapore that will be held in a week and a half. A shame really, that the first time many people will be coming to my country and we don't get the chance to share our hobby on a more personal level.

Anyhow, I love your positive 'can-do' attitude around this! Just be sure that most people understand that if they come to exhibit at community tables, they should bring a friend- you know, to keep watch while they take a break or something. Also, it would be great to have some way for people to leave stuff overnight so there's no need to ferry items back and forth. Otherwise, fenced off space, own security? Wowwwww. Winner.

I'd really love if the community was able to bring a bunch of rare and good rig for that european canjam.

Thanks everybody for the kind and encouraging words, I'm already looking forward to the event. And (potential) exhibitors are already starting to line up.

There's still plenty of time until CJE16, but if I were to make a prediction, it really sounds like the community will be getting tables right on the show floor. The one big challenge will be to get enough community people to commit to manning and guarding the tables throughout the entire event. It really takes a whole bunch of committed and reliable folks to make sure there's always somebody present to watch over gear and possibly answer other vistors' questions. It's gonna be quite the challenge to coordinate people from SBAF, Hifi-forum, tellement nomade and possibly other communities. I'm looking forward to it. :)

Today I start learning German again so I can have fun in Essen. I consider that week my vacation where I can nerd out and properly talk about music with people who understand.

May I ask what brand/booth you are going to be presenting at CanJam.de? :)

    None.

I will be there as a community exhibitor with my own stuff ( HD800SD , Sennheiser HE60 , Maybe Stax SR007 mkII, my Krell KSA 5 and SR-X plus amplifier for Electrostat and my DAC Theta DS pro Gen Va)

Maybe I'll bring a bunch of SuperDupont® resonators with me though.

How does one become a community exhibitor? Would love to compare my (then) Gungnir MB to the Theta Gen V-A. I've been there the last two years and it never seemed like there was much of a community area (noone brought their stuff).

Read the first Page. Seems community is welcome to this canjam so I think anyone is OK to populate a Community room will be well received.

DEFINITELY HAVE A COMMUNITY ROOM! EVERYONE PLEASE BRING YOUR GEAR TO THESE KINDS OF MEETS! Or yourself, if you can't.

One of the things that many of us have missed in California (since HF starting running 15 official trade shows a year, crowding out the hobbyists) is people showing up and bringing their own gear. This is what makes meets super special. I love seeing people putting together fantastic sounding setups at different budgets. I've said this before and and will say it again. One of the best setups I've heard period at a meet was when this kid (maybe not even in high school yet), put together a TT setup with a Jolida phonostage, Crack (with a two sets of tubes), and an HD650. This was not an expensive setup, but the synergy between the components was fantastic. Or when n3rdling brought all his STAX shit, his BH, Stax 007mk1, STAX Omega, etc and got a small group of people in the Bay Area hooked.

We don't see stuff like this anymore. It's just buy buy buy buy buy vendor vendor vendor vendor $3000 portable, $3000 headphone, $3000 Lt. Uhura IEMs, shiny shiny shiny. None of this shit is conducive to talking with people, understanding and learning what they were trying to achieve with their systems, discovering new music, and actually making friends. None of this shit helps people who are getting into the hobby and want to put together a great sounding system at a budget. All this shit was designed for one purpose. To make a shitload of money for one person who really couldn't give a rats ass about the community. There's nothing wrong with making money, but it has to be balanced.

I think there should be room for both. I like visiting the bigger regional meets where you get at chance to have a look at all the vendors and all their new stuff, make ear impressions, try new cables and so on. Also I think that smaller local meets are better when people just want to meet and listen to eachothers gear. IT is a great idea to combine both at the same time and place. For the community oriented vendors it SHOULD also be a great opportunity to mingle with the hobbyists and see how they like to use and mix different brands to create the best synergy and setups at different priceranges.

Yeah, sorry guys, I've been out for a while. Back to work after a year of paternal leave and it takes some adjusting to balance work and kids.

Anyway, yes, CanJam Europe is very much happening and I have persuaded the organizer to allocate (up to) two tables for the community right on the show floor. Here's the caveat: We have to man the tables ourselves to make sure gear is watched over at all times.

Since I'm free from booth duty at HEADSOUND's booth this year, I'm volunteering to cover up to half of the total time, if needed. I'd appreciate it if it was less because there's so much gear I want to try this year.

Here's my idea how to organize community booth duty:
    • divided into two-hour shifts
    • two persons per shift to make sure we're covered even if people bail out on last notice.
    • Volunteers (or event organizers) cannot be made accountable by other community members if stuff goes missing
I'm putting this up for discussion and am looking forward to your suggestions. Also, provided there's enough interest, I could organize exclusive community tours and talk to exhibitors to allocate time for us nerds.

I will also post this on German hifi-forum.de and try to coordinate between both, particularly as far as ideas - and in the next step, booth duty - are concerned.

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you in Essen in late September!

Good idea. I do not think I will roam the halls all day so keeping an eye is more than doable.

Can you recommend a hotel or hostel there?

Me and a friend of mine will also be there and I will likely bring my Gungnir DS and Rag. In any case I will definitely bring the HD800X.

I could watch the tables for some time, depending on how much new stuff will be there. It wasn't a problem listening to everything the last two years.
