Reminds me of the additional filters AKG used to offer with its older upmarket headphones like the K500 and K501.

Sennheiser is now sort of saying:
"Hey people, look at our filter/dampening thingy. It looks great does it not? We also a added some shiny paint because shiny glitters and all that glitters is gold like the sound of this headphone. Now please buy our old product (HD800) with this filter/dampening thingy for even more than the old product (HD800) alone in retail because our headphone is shiny."

They want shiny? K-Pop already exists

P.S. 2NE1 is kind of awesome. K-Pop has some good groups.

This would be good, but I expect if they are actually using some sort of filter rather than just dampening that there will be some minor sonic tradeoff/s. I'm not keen to sell off my HD 800 and spend probably 2k for a slight improvement.

Been waiting many months for a good offer on a set of HD800 and finally picked them up yesterday... Probably gonna end up modding them anyways. Not complaining though, was about $650 including blue dragon V3 cable. I look forward having fun with them!

Also, hi everyone.. first post

What I'm hoping is they offer the new HD800s for $1,699-$1,799 while dropping the price of the original HD800 to $1,399-1,499. Maybe dreams can become a reality? I've held off from buying the HD800 for all the reasons provided on sites such as these (analytical but not always musical/a little harsh at times/picky amp pairings, etc.), but if they make such a renowned can even better without jacking up the price too much, it may prove difficult to resist. I'm a huge fan of the HD650, and have long wanted to get another great Senn.

p.s. This is my first post here on SBAF. For the most part, I read more than I post, but definitely appreciate the efforts of those who contribute heavily in forums such as these and the knowledge they provide. I don't have a lot opportunities to audition headphones where I live and so rely on sites like these to get an idea about what certain headphones may sound like. Thanks!

I am cautiously optimistic that the acoustic damper will become available for the HD800 as an after-part. Otherwise why keep the inferior HD800 in the lineup and why force HD800S buyers to buy the balanced cable in the package? It sounds like as premium all-black offering to max out early sales.

    I could be wrong...

I expect that I will try the official mod if it becomes available.

The changes from hd600 to 650 were so subtle. It makes sense they will just throw in some damping foam and change the color.

S is for Siri. Tim Cook said so.

Good on Grell to say "it's a bit better." Truth FTW ; better than the hyperbole bukkake every new headphone receives on HFtv.

Joking aside, if it comes in under 2K I will probably buy one assuming the treble is properly fixed.

I also hope Sennheiser gives a nod either publicly or privately to some of the guys who helped with the R&D. ;)

Knowing that we Germans aren't known known for our wild imaginations, I would say the "S" stands for schwarz, or "black" in German.

Already have the Anax Mod and Norne Draug 2 cable on my HD800's, doubting they are much better, if at all.

So you figured to make a great first impression you'd go with the 'Cardassian Bill Cosby' avatar? Good thinking, welcome to SBAF |\/|
