Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town next week though, so I probably won't get to doing any quick impressions until at least next Sunday.

I'm really interested to try quick switching between the internal DAC, Modi Multibit, and Yggdrasil.

I'm sincerely hope you find that the internal dac beats everything else.

I'll be going between Gungnir Multibit and Yggdrasil this weekend with the Joti. Should be arriving late tomorrow.

I am really itching to get a pair of Amperex Bugle Boy / Orange Globe for my Valhalla 2 and then compare them to Jotun. I might wait until weekend for more impressions. On the other hand, my Momby is arriving tomorrow!

Sorry for continuing the derailment, but an interesting headphone EQ component might have 3 parametric EQ bands along with a built-in sine wave generator that you could manually sweep up and down frequency very smoothly to help locate the peaks and dips (so probably an analog one with a big dial). Add a way to bypass each EQ band independently for A/B comparisons, and you've got an easy-to-use headphone EQ box. I've tried doing this with digital generators and then using the Apple Core Audio EQs to implement the corrections, but the digital sine wave generators, like the iPhone app I was using, have too coarse and too delayed of an adjustment to really precisely find those dips and peaks. The Core Audio parametric EQ though is pretty good.

Basically it's an all-in-one way of implementing what Linkwitz wrote about here: http://www.linkwitzlab.com/reference_earphones.htm

Hahahahahaha. Linkwitz's EQ basically cancels out the Ety's much pushed excessive diffuse field target and the fatiguing treble peak of the ER4S.

On this (but not related to Jonti, at least for this revision),
if Schiit is going to produce a very high quality preamp, is it probable that it'll have multiple SE/balanced inputs (at least 4 SEs?) and SE/balance outputs (to drive power amps and headphone amp(s)

I'm thinking in the line of Vinyl enthusiasts that have multiple table/arms feed the same number of phono amps and those who are still flddling with analog/digital tuners.

Sorry for this derailment, but I can't give up this chance to create a wishlist.

If only the cutout for the modular part were sliiiiightly larger an AES input DAC could have been an option. Maybe if it pokes out a little more it could be a reality even. Maybe the current 4490 DAC may not be up to scratch for some impressions but hey it's an option, how many DACs let alone amps with optional DACs have the option for AES input at that price point? Only the DC-1 comes to mind.

I'm hoping for the next DAC module to come in SPDIF, way more source options that way. Jotunheim would make a great bedroom rig.

The DAC is currently usb powered though, and I'm not sure if there's room in there for additional power taps.

    From 'Schiit Happened',

The 6th prototype was also where we first got to plug in a DAC. With the re-layout done for the AK4490, and a different power supply arrangement (we decided to take the power supply from the main rails, which can provide amps of current), we finally had a complete, production-ready product.

How do they power the phono then?

There's a tiny windmill that you place next to the platter. That feeds a Tesla coil that you point at the Jotunheim. It's a pretty good deal for $100.

jotunheim measurements are in the queue, though there are others also pending. I fell considerably behind my own schedule over the last year. Long story for another time.

The DAC is not USB-powered. It is actually double-regulated with fairly exotic regulators.

The USB input, however, is USB-powered.

Whoopsie, my bad. Mea culpa. Shine on you crazy diamonds.

So is that because the usb chip needs a 5V which isn't supplied in your dac rails?

Nope, to help keep the computer P/S and ground isolated from the Jotunheim's P/S and ground. There are a bunch of inductors to help keep computer crud out of the chassis.

That seems like overkill. I just use compressed air every now and then.

First impression...Gungnir Multibit~Joti~hd650=impressive. Even early on (just got it home an hour ago) the magic is undoubtedly there with Joti and 650. Resolving, musical and engaging. Nice!!
