Will do, soon as my other 'best' pair arrives back to me. These are so good I can't live without at least one pair.

I ordered a pair because the hype train sounds like complete bullshit. The andromeda is ridiculously resolving, even when stacked against the best full sized flagships and you are claiming this random cheapo is beating it?

This is the kind of HF like bullshit enthusiasm that doesn't really fly here. I'll get a pair and @CEE TEE, @Marvey will try em out.

As far as I am concerned, this is bullshit. I can understand people preferring the sound of dynamics to BAs, but really, they are different - they do different things well.

Been through way too many examples like this on HF to take at face value. FWIW, @shotgunshane can make similar fantastical claims with his Fostex TE02n Blu Tack mod. But he doesn't.

P.S. Mention of LAu doesn't impress anyone here, particularly with HD650, which is like worse synergy possible. I'd rather run my Andromeda from ZX2 than LAu + best source in the world.

In fact @shotgunshane told me to stay far away from these things but I'm buying them so we can bury this thread and these IEMs if they're total shit or just okay.

Issued my first series of dislikes. Couldn't help myself. BS meter going off like crazy:
    1. Rando with a few posts claims "best thing ever"
    2. Mention of mods caveated with consistency concerns and NO details of mods.
    3. Scant and vague descriptions: awesome dynamic bass and mids, detailed, blah blah
    4. Photo of aftermarket cable.
    5. References to $7k system.
    6. One comparison to what is known as an unimpressive, boring, and unresolving setup (LAu + HD650)
Prediction: Emphasized bass bleeding a bit into mids and a peak in lower / mid treble.

On the other hand, what would have happened if you'd Gotten the JH13, then picked up some $100 IEMs on a lark and decided you liked them as much? Would you have been happier to spend $1000 on one pair you didn't like in favor of one that cost 1/10 as much or if you'd sampled a few cheapies and then bought the big boy? I went backwards, trust me I'm not exactly glad I had bought high-end IEMs when I just love these.

Don't forget the sharp roll-off after the treble peak.

Thank you, I'm a little sick of hearing about these. Somehow anything you have to poke a hole in to make it sound good doesn't seem like flagship killer material to me.

But your cynicism and passive aggressiveness is OK, right?

Maybe I wasn't clear: your passive aggressiveness and shitposting aren't welcome.

I'm pretty zen; not much actually fazes me. I do intend to keep this forum a bit cleaner though.

It's kind of childish of you to 'put it in the place' before you have actually tried these, don't you think?
The hype-train is over exaggerated, no doubt, but these have very good qualities, and even through very resolving gear like Yggdrasil + EC2A3 (which I think you will agree beats any wonder portable) with 1/4 of my music I'd take the TFZ over HD650M and HD800X.

The modding and IEM fit issues are going to split people in hating or loving it.

Wow, didn't mean to raise the ire of the community. And yes, the 650 isn't the end all. For sure. And I am also not trying to name drop via LAu. Only mention it because it's the best amp I have owned in the past ten years.

Happy to give the details of the mods to the S5s that to me, blow me away. And yes, they are not consistent. I have owned several pairs and only two of them have shined. But when they shine, they _shine_.

And yes, plugged into the LAu, wow.

Also, once I have a 'best' pair, would be happy to send one to Marvey for measurements. Even more important, listening.

I don't think it's childish at all. This is not Head-Fi and we have a responsibility to our readers. Too many shills and too much BS out there. We need to be more sure. A lot doesn't add up in this situation. So I feel the responsible thing to do is to call the glass half-empty rather than throw caution to the wind. Keep in mind that I've eaten my words many many times before..

This has always been how it rolls here. It has always been a meritocracy. Longtime members and / or excellent quality posts are afforded more trust. If we don't discourage this behavior of outlandish claims from unestablished members, we will end up like HF in three months with a ton random shitposts proclaiming X to to be the best ever. Shilling and sockpuppeting are extremely serious concerns of mine. Probably not to you, but it certainly is to me. If I've learned anything from running forums the past few years, it that's better to pull of a "Minority Report" than is it not to. There's no penalty to anyone if a piece of a gear wrongfully put into the penalty box turned out to be awesome later.

There are a few trusted members who have gotten their hands on them, and I haven't heard exclamations of best evar yet. Overall impressions seem neutral to positive with good capability when modded to tone down the bass.

I am as big an anti HF-er as anyone here. I will send my pair of S5's to Marvey as soon as my other pair arrives. I have nothing to gain from this issue and I really only want others to hear what great sound I have enjoyed. And that's really as far as my posting goes.

Nothing against you personally, but SuperBAF has experienced a lot of growth recently. Other than one person who went super "objective" to the point of saying "I call BS" on everything (but using nice words), the overall swing has tilted too much toward the subjective lately.

I feel a need to get back to SuperBAF's origins and get some measurements. FR, CSD, HD, a few others - they don't tell us everything, but they can tell us a lot. Again, not too tight and not too loose. Just been a bit too loose lately.

wow, nature does abhor a vacuum

eg. chang, now sbaf- relative vacuum in the FOTM, populust, fan boy scheme of audio things, but it did not take too long to find molecules quickly moving in to take up space.

the term Passive Aggressive gets thrown around here a bit more frequently than elsewhere, but do you really know the definition?
