300 Ohm Biocellulose drivers tuned by Zach? Sold.

FYI, I ended up not being "sold" due to my decision not to buy anything that puts up a preorder and releases pre-production review samples of products before "Final Tuning." Still eagerly anticipating impressions based on the final product.

Can anyone post a link of this announcement? I can't find any info about it anywhere. Not even on the ZMF site.

I've really enjoyed Zachs headphones so far. Looking forward to some new dynamics.

A couple people on head-fi spilled the beans early. Official announcement at RMAF apparently.

But, I keep scratching my head. What exactly is a TPE driver? Never heard of those. Can anyone enlighten me please?

And the new headband design looks sweeet!

Zmf Eikon reminds me of Zak Efron. This is not a good idea.

I've never heard a ZMF but a high impedance biocellulose driver is an awesome idea.
    What is Zach's tuning style?
    Relative to an HD600?

Zach's tuning tends to focus on mids, but with a darker/blacker overall tone. Its very addictive if you ask me. It might take a bit of "head burn in" coming from the HD600...

    To give you an idea:

Slants vs Omnis in tonal balance (both t50 mods)

    Similar bass quantity
Omnis have slightly less lower mids
Slants have a smoother and slightly thicker sound
Omnis have more upper midrange energy and liveliness
Both are a little darkish up top
Both have slightly boosted sub bass

If you have heard an Elear the Zmf house sound is similar to that but without the upper midrange suck out and strong 10K peak. Like a slightly darker Utopia with more bass usually.

Honestly for balance I give the edge to the Omni over the Elear. The Elear just has a lot better dynamics, is cleaner sounding and has better clarity edging the Omni out overall.

Might be off topic but, NightOwl is actually going to be a thing? I thought it was a joke... Hoping these fix the tonal issues of the nighthawk.

yes, the Sony will be too dark for him I suppose.

Nightowl - Tyll said it sounds more forward and less laid back. Thats a good thing.

We should buy one or both of them for the loaner program. I'd bet on these more than the Sony. Can someone talk to him on our behalf?

I'll see if that is feasible. Might take 2-3 months for production units to be released.

I am listening to the Eikon right now.

My first thoughts are that SBAF is a tough crowd. I like it here because of that. All of the headphones go through thorough testing here and flaws get picked out.

Considering the above I honestly feel the Eikon will be respected here. There is a lot to like about it.

Right now it sounds like this after a few hours and to my ears:

    • Full midrange a la ZMF house sound that has more realism right off the bat than the Elear for vocals.
    • Good Dynamics unlike T50's so there is not the sense of over-dampening the housing in efforts to fight an inherent hashyness. A lot less compressed
    • Treble heads won't be excited
    • Very cohesive
    • Treble texture is smooth
    • Background is black and the sound is decently spacious but not super spacious
    • Not sounding like its trying to be an open back but a well tuned closed back with separation and space around the notes
    • Did decently with some bassy tracks so far.
    What I don't know yet
    • how the treble texture is
    • How the treble extension is
    • How violins etc will resonate and how textured they will sound
    • How its price to performance will stack up but it is already better than the OMNI on performance
    • How it compares to other TOTL closed headphones especially since I dont have much experience with TOTL closed headphones.
There is a lot I dont know lol... way more than I do.
