@Kunlun I'd have to pay more attention to the violins specifically. Cymbals sound incredible to my ears, nice extension and reverb.

BTW, I didn't see it yet, but someone on HF mentioned there is a used Vega up for sale. Don't know price or who is selling it, just want to give a heads up here.

Cymbals have excellent decay. Violins have a wonderful texture to them. The Vegas show off the expressiveness of the instrument. Still not finding the treble fatiguing either with the foam tips.

Also the HF sale is for $1,150 without small foam tips or the box. That guy is on crack.

Has anyone heard them through the Sony ZX2?

I got a ZX2 yesterday, and listened for several hours last night. Of all the sources I have, the ZX2 has the most air, instrument separation, and detail. It's a terrific pairing and I really want to hear the Andromedas with the ZX2 now.

I have the sound adjustments disabled FYI.

Are you running balanced or quasi balanced or whatever the ZX2 has?

@Merrick what other sources babe you used? I've used mine primarily , as in 99%, with my P1.

I did try my Fiio X7 using the balanced. Didn't hear any difference once volume matched between SE and balanced.

Yes, I'm using a balanced cable, as I have with all my other sources. Literally the only time I've used the SE cable was to test the Vegas with the iPhone lightning->analog dongle.

The ZX2 has plenty of power for the Vegas, even though the "balanced" mode isn't providing more power.

    Modi Multibit->Jotunheim
GOV2+ with iPhone and MacBook Air
    Pono player

    All running balanced.

Right now I'm quite enamored with the ZX2. If I had a Gungnir Multibit or a Yggdrasil hooked up to the Jotunheim that might take the cake, but for now the ZX2 is winning my affection.

Here's the deal with the Vegas. If you want something neutral, similar to speakers with a B&K curve (at the listening position in a room), go for the Andromedas. The Andromedas are the closest to that.

The Vegas have a frequency response kind of like the Fostex TH-900, but with no lower mid dip, and less sharp treble (there's some sibilance). If you don't mind EQ, the Vegas are amazing, with that super rich timbre and muscularity that DDs are only capable of. The drivers are super resolving.

FYI, the Vegas I received had L and R channels out of phase. I had to go into Room Correction in JRiver and reverse the phase.

My favorite out of the three out of the box without EQ is the Lyra (with Comply tips). Or maybe Dorado. They do different things well. BTW, the DD and BA integration on Dorado is probably the best I've heard. Vega has the best technicalities, but I'm not a fan of the TH-900 tonal response (but I know a lot of you guys love the TH-900).

Measurements tomorrow. I realized why I could not get good EX1000 measurements. My setup does not work with ported bass drivers. Constructed another microphone and coupler to do this. Will need to whip up some compensation curves. Tomorrow.

Do you have the second edition of the Lyra, @Marvey ?

Without EQ, how well does Dorado and Lyra 2 scale against Andro?

Do you see a potential candidate for a Golden Schlong among the 3 new IEM's?

They seem quite similar. Maybe more bass slightly. Been going back and forth with four IEMs, so no definitive statements at this time.

I need time to reassess the Vega because of the phase issue. Might be the cable. I was totally weirded out and puzzled by the staging issues until I realized the issue and now need a brain reset.

I heard a lot of potential from an early Lyra before so I am not surprised. I like the Be driver sound as implemented here. Ultimately, it's too early to say and these drivers need some burn in too. I think you will be happy with the Andromeda knowing you and your preferences. Lyra 2 seems to have a similar response but a different intepretation. It shouldn't be discounted because it's not TOTL.

The CA Be and diamond dynamic drivers do sound different from other dynamic drivers. They are a bit faster.

There's a port you can block? Sounds like there might be some modding potential there.

EDIT: Was referring to the CA IEMs.

Curious to hear how you feel the Dorado compares against the Andromeda.
