@CEE TEE This was actually my first thought, that the Porta Pro would smooth it all over, since it does fairly well on sources like this. But I mainly use KSC75 now.

Nipponbashi is a little annoying to get to from Osaka station, so your other option if you happen to drop by is Yodobashi Camera Umeda, it is absolutely massive and has a load of stuff to try as well. Is very easy to go to from Osaka station so you can quickly drop by then grab a train to Kyoto/Okayama.

If you can only go to one store, E-Earphone would be the way for headphones. If you are into speakers/other audio/tech stuff Yodobashi is the way to go.

@joch It's fairly mild here where I'm at year round, about 70 - 77* baseline.

I highly recommend nearfields if you can, dropped my headphone usage by 85% or more.

@Tchoupitoulas I proxied one for my friend, had it on me for a bit! But no Utopia at the time. I'll be able to hear it in a few months though.

I use my setup all day while working at home from my desk, which works well for me.

I stream airplay to my pi most of the time, I know it can have some losses but it is pretty seamless.

I use my stack everyday since I work from home. Became somewhat of a need due to late nights. Helps keep me awake.

I'm not sure if the ergos are better, but it is more robust and seems to be of a higher quality. Ordered straight from Senn when in stock was $12 shipped late year.

@ColdsnapBry I think of those (speed, soundstage) as questions of sonic priorities. My top priority is neutrality. If the FR is screwed up, I don't care *what* it does right. That's the main reason I've never kept a single "TOTL" headphone; and the only reason I don't buy Schiit DACs.

I like the 75’s more than the Portapro. I should mod some with a longer cable.

Porta Pros are fun, but ksc75 are legit comparable to TOTL

@ColdsnapBry I take more time working out how I think a piece is meant to be played than I do listening to music. Mozart is especially difficult to get right. Not kidding about any of that.

Honestly if I’ve thought about it then it’s not shortest way. It should be a pre-electric impulse that my brain doesn’t even register to count as good sound.

well until we have that sort of technology, I'm just going to have to settle with my Koss ksc75 out of my laptop because that's the closest thing :P

@Kernel Kurtz is Google Chrome on it or a web-browser? I ask because I like not being distracted on my DAP, otherwise I can't resist the open web.

I don't recall if it had a browser. It doesn't now, and I rarely connect it to the internet, I just play stuff off SD card. For people who stream the fact it is an old unpatched version of Android is the biggest issue. DAPs always seem to be behind on that, they are certainly not like phones.

I like the Pocketbook readers. Good software supporting a wealth of book formats, including the special DRM used by libraries in Germany, PDF reflow/cutting off margins etc etc. I’m not sure if they are offered in the US at all, though.

Kindle and Kobo are really your options. I have used others but they tend to be running Android which isn't great if you're planning on mostly using it for actual reading. The Kindle Scribe had some great firmware updates and I use mine for note taking constantly now.
