Seeing people excited and hugging coming out of the airport just makes me happy for them. Melts the solid block of cynicism in me, I guess. Apr 24, 2024 at 5:01 PM

If you get out of the Jacksonville Airport where I am at, I'll come up from Palm Coast and I'll be waiting for you shirtless near your gate with hugs.

My wife's ambulance bill is paid via "911bill.com". If that doesn't perfectly describe the American healthcare system, nothing does.

@penguins Very much real. It’s a billing service for ambulances, as ambulances are privatized in this county. Bill breakdown matched the insurance claim exactly.

And yep, @AlPastor, county EMS billed us too.

Guess they just decided to use a scammy sounding name.

I questioned it because just before your status update I read an article about how there's also a lot of medical fraud now with fake billing. Some are much more believe-able now when they're able to (illegally) access data en masse due to records, bills, etc being digital now.

All good, mate. It sounded completely sketch to me as well until I went through the detail billing. That's part of my exasperation with the whole thing... felt like medical billing crossed over to overnight infomercials.

one thing I've read/heard w/ regards to ticks and pops on vinyl that seems to make sense to my lizard brain is that they're more a detriment on systems that lack dynamic ability somewhere in the chain. Thought being a tick or pop is much more noticeable when a gain stage goes into clipping or otherwise has bad transient response overshoot.

given such small voltages, a mishandling of transient information can get amplified and sound pretty offensive pretty easily.

I don't think so, although I'm far from sure. I used to record bad albums to cassette. The *lesser* dr of tape took a little of the pain away. Although the greater benefit was not having to think of the stylus!

I’ve had to do that. The hard thing for me was feeling angry in general because I had to be responsible for so many more of the mundane things. What got me through it was repeatedly reminding myself, “Let it go”: to do all those things without becoming resentful. In any case, I wish you well.

major empathy here. I've been with my GF for almost 9 years now and her dad still doesn't remember my name, or Tucker's, or now Johnny's. And that's completly inconsequential stuff, by a long shot. the big stuff is a gut punch every couple days. Like not remembering that his son was killed by police in 2018.

Good point. Zipper pouches from brand names are twice the cost for pencils. Generic are 1/2 to 2/3 the cost. For the extra $4, I’ll pay for something that lasts my life and can be used for tools. (I get them for 23 USD for 3 at Ace) (HW store is 1/2 a mile and I’m always there)
