Thinking about it, no duh, but I feel power delivery doesn't matter as much for BA IEMs as DD. None of the usual improvements IME. Mar 26, 2024 at 8:17 PM

How much would be a fair price for a hardly used Layla II?

I think they were $2300 new. Prices I've seen on Head-fi are $1200-$1400. If it's truly hardly used I would go maybe $1600.

Nice! I'm actually still planning on getting a Fulla soon, so with the amp in that being fairly close to the Magni (if reports are accurate), I'll have one heck of a school/office rig! Thanks @DigMe :)

Scoring and interpreting projective tests is a massive pain. Also, abrupt changes in deadlines suck. That is all.

@Jinxy245 Haha! My wallet isn't quite so well fortified, no worries. I'm picking up @Bigferret's Klipsch HP-3. Definitely a fun can, which is about what I'm looking for right now, and if the bass turns out to be too obnoxious I could find a new home for them and not take a hit given the pricing. I've been curious about them since initial impressions cropped up.

Good for you! I was stalking that one as well (not enough financial ducks for that either). I heard it at CanJam NYC...show conditions and all, but very engaging. Bass is pumped, but I liked it. If you haven't read GrizzlyBeasy's review, it's spot on (as usual).
        Glad you got it though...enjoy!

Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a basshead (though I do like a bit of a lift in the subbass on certain recordings). Quality>quantity for me, I'm fairly certain I'll be tuning the bass down a bit if it's really as pumped as Tyll's measurements suggest.

It's pretty much a done deal at this point, but I'll check that review out just so I can validate the purchase to myself :P

@BenjaminBore thanks, that's a beautiful analogy! Easier than some of the others I've seen elsewhere, haha. Having said that, I do enjoy learning about audio reproduction (though the nitty gritty stuff about amp and DAC architecture still fly over my head), so while I realise there's risk in the descent I plan on getting there eventually, when I have the resources to.

Of course, I do have friends I can actually meet who're further along than I am; I plan to make use of their equipment from time to time. Going to more audio meets sounds good too, but I'm always a bit nervous broaching a new social circle.

I've only ever demoed the Focal kids in store conditions, which are hardly ideal. Those might be worth investigating when the wallet is more willing. For the most part though, I love reading up on others' impressions on here as that's as good as it'll get short of buying shit myself. Also, educational as heck (LaCenric's IEM resonances thread is my current fave).

It's a great system though, hope it becomes more widespread and that more stuff in the back catalogues are retrofitted with one for convenience's sake.

Take the cost of having a set imported yourself, shipping and tax included, then add 50%?

I recently ordered a Herman Miller for someone from the UK, because getting it from the Italian reseller meant paying an extra 450€. On a 900€ chair.

I'll have to watch them at some point...I watched the anime, but I had to stop reading the manga because the tension was getting to be too much for me. ReLIFE is awesome, but I was getting a little too worried about the characters and the stress was starting to affect me IRL. I should probably go back and read it now that the manga has ended and I can spoil myself to make the tension more manageable.

@nithhoggr I know what you mean about the manga, it was stressful enough that I read lots of fluff in between to cope, haha. Won't say anything specific, but I liked the ending.

That was my reason for IEM’s many years ago when the neighborhood was filled with pre-schoolers screaming at the top of their lungs while playing outside. Forget speakers during the day. They’ve all grown up and moved out. It’s eerily silent out there now. Just the occasional dog barking.......like an old Twilight Zone episode. :)

But if you are thinking "active" you have to consider the chain. You need a volume-control/pre-amp, rather than an amplifier. Unless your source is a PC and you have no theological objections to volume control in your media player. Which could always do while saving up for other bits.

And the interview itself was fine, Charlize Theron was a good sport and totally chill, just that Sean Evans used ACTUAL Rorschach cards in the interview as a f'ing joke, and considering how hard people go to keep those things under wraps it pissed me the f**k off.

@jayeshrc Because part of what makes a psychological exam valid is the test-taker's not knowing what's going to be on said exam. Same principle applies to, say, a trigonometry test leaking a week before the actual exam— you have more time to prepare "fake" answers.
