The strangest thing is that I have a table fan connected to the same power strip. Changing the fan speed cuts out the Eitr signal. Strange.

Yea, that would happen with me too, think AC fans just drop the voltage or something

Red vs Blue! listening to the red Torpedo iii next to the blue DNA amp. I finally get the opportunity to listen to one after many years.

Has good warmth, a little lush, quiet, feels way more powerful than a Sonnett 2 and a Piety. Grips a HD600 with more authority than anything I’ve owned. I didn’t know it was possible with a 12A_7. Chassis is kind of ridiculously long. This is awesome for movies.

I think I now understand why people recommend speakers over headphones.

My speakers are Dynaudio Music 5, smart speakers (so Class D). Being all in one (stereo in one box), there’s not really a stage to speak of, so I’m missing this speaker advantage. Tonality is great, detail is not bad, but only shines in the attic without parallel walls and stone walls. In the living room with concrete ceiling and adjacent open kitchen (tiled), detail isn’t better than meh.

I grew up going to classical concerts. Speakers are obviously closer to that experience than headphones. Four years ago, my wife wanted a simple ghettoblaster (what Americans call a boom-box). I bought her a Panasonic RX-D55GC-K for $132.80. It's better—and cheaper—than any entry-level solid state + HD-6 series combo.

While I respect your opinions, I’m still searching for the superior speaker experience. It’s usually the room that ends up tipping the balance.

Purchased vintage HD600 with the intent to mod, but the stock sound is compelling. Interesting to compare to the JAR600B loaner.

It feels like the headphone connector for every after market HD650 cable wobbles in the socket. Is there anything that fits snug?
      1. internethandle
        internethandle
There’s a lot of aftermarkets with the Cardas connectors (http://www.cardas.com/hpsc.php). They’re basically identical to HD600 stock (but Cardas-y), stay in place fine. Otherwise look for an aftermarket cable with stock connectors, they do exist - I remember the Headphile cables used stock HD650’s, although the cables began to get real frumpy after a while unless you’re careful with coiling.

I have one cable that had smaller connectors for some reason and is loose. I just wrap a couple layers of electrical tape real tight around the area that sits in the socket.

Tried writing impressions for the Piety. Comparison amp had worn out tubes. Found that a UPS is bad for audio. Received Modi 2. Rewriting.

It affected my DNA Sonett 2 more than any other component. Atmospheric sound effects were less engaging. Some bass tones disappeared, or combined with other tones. Made things lopsided? Not sure if that is the best explanation.

I've been using the same interconnects since the early 2000's. Now I want to DIY. Is there any reason to go beyond than the Furutech FP126?

I would stick with a basic OCC copper cable like neotech and neutrick connectors. Cables help out a bit but only when your system is resolving enough otherwise you're massaging a wooden leg. Get your end game amp, dac and headphones, take care of your power and only then go crazy on cables.

@fraggler. I currently have Kimber Kable PBJs, and I wanted the components to be marginally better. I’m not going to anything silver. I read a few of threads and that is where I learned about the FP126. Plan is to have fun.

@m17xr2b. I forgot about Neutrik, I like their connectors. For cable I was thinking of Dueland copper in oiled cotton.

As for current equipment. I think I'm doing pretty well with Soekris 1541-> DNA Sonnet 2 ->AZ PMx2.

I don’t know how to describe resolving power, but I feel like I’m in a better spot than when I started.I have no clue what to do about power.
