Wanted: cheap decent DAP that supports logging playback (either with Rockbox or natively). Does it exist?

You'd probably be better off asking Google with specific requirements like logging.

SBAF works perfectly without JavaScript, with dynamic functionality falling back to static pages. XenForo, I'm impressed.

Responsive and dynamic websites are great, when they run well. For simple purposes, like blogs, forums and information sharing a static website with a few good buttons and menus is enough. Not every website has to be like Apple's...

So some of us are using Sagaheim, but has any body tried Sagani (Saga + Magni 3)? Terrible name aside.

Actual Question: Why do people put preamps in front of headphone amps, when the headamp is (presumably) within arm's reach for volume control

@PoochZag to make it sound different, specifically SagaHeim was using tubes to take the edge off the Jot, good synergy basically

When I saw the name of the latest @La Cenric measurements I thought of a SBAF-made IEM to compete with the MD+.

Open secret: many SBAF members provided a lot of input over the development of the MD+.

Yeah, I figured as much. The hype is certainly more visceral here than elsewhere. Looking forward to receiving some next year.

I'm sure more people here have heard them than elsewhere, too. Probably more speculation elsewhere.

If I listen at a low (60dB) volume, will microdynamics become nanodynamics? What else becomes less apparent/important?

You are on the right track if and when you find gear that sounds good without turning it up. Err... as well, loud is an option when you feel you need it.

Remember that salesmen turn the volume up to make you think that stuff is good.

Low Dynamic Range will sound less fatiguing. Actually, low DR will probably sound more enjoyable if the volume level is low enough. Music that would get lost in the silence, will be audible.

Noble X arrived. First impressions: sounds almost bloated compared to Orion, very "thick" sound. Very listenable though.

Not sure if I'm psyching myself out with these but the sound from these sounds more "centred" than Orion – could be a driver matching issue with the latter. With both I'm hearing plenty of details, just in different halves of the audio spectrum.

There seems to be a overweight of cat lovers here.... But it was actually one of my twin boys who was watching me post and noticed the many cats.... So we had to hunt one of our cats to get a good picture.

Thanks for the sobering perspective, Thad.. that's a real shame to hear about your condition. I suppose the best thing to do now is to keep things realistic. At the end of the day I guess we're in it for the music, not the gear, although, chasing that ever-diminishing upgrade cycle still has its thrills...

Believe it or not I still find plenty of pleasure in music, as long as it is not too loud or shrill. There are some tinkly bits completely missing, "air" is copletely missing, and timbre, eg of a violin string, is missing some harmonics. But it is still very much music!

So don't worry. You're going to go on enjoying music for a long time, if not for ever. Actually, all that fuss we make about high frequencies --- most of the music just isn't that high
