    I find this a comforting thought...maybe.

    Sounds like something philosophers would say, but I'm not sure

    Somehow I think this has always been the case, not just for modern times.

    Great quote. There is nothing more aggravating than a person impervious to the motivation to consider alternative perspectives. What is funny is that these people often assume the pose of humility yet are hostile to those who question their evangelical dogmatism, in whatever form that may take. This is how humility dialectically turns into arrogance.

    @m17xr2b Absolutely.

    Socrates, from Plato's Apology: I am wiser than this man, for neither of us appears to know anything great and good; but he fancies he knows something, although he knows nothing; whereas I, as I do not know anything, so I do not fancy I do. In this trifling particular, then, I appear to be wiser than he, because I do not fancy I know what I do not know.

    And to conclude, Socrates was executed for his behaviour by those who didn't understand it. Corrupting the youth as it were.

    @m17xr2b Yep. I literally thought of that after typing the message. That is indeed the case! He was accused for "corrupting the youth" by denying the questionable morality of the gods.
