That's an awesome and elegant razor. Pics or it didn't happen! :)

These are fair points. I may send my razor to sharpen and even buy another professionally sharpened to make fair comparisons.

BTW, I may know a thing or two about Electrical Engineering and DSP. But I'm no steel scientists. Maybe @Armaegis knows a thing or two. Me? I would have to read some more.

Any other fans of razorock in the thread? I quite like some of the TOBS soaps and creams as well, but razorock xxx has become my go to over the last couple of years. Wonderful scent, and it produces a beautiful slick lather with minimal water added. Evidently, it is rumored to be virtually identical to Acqua Di Parma (http://straightrazorplace.com/soaps...rock-xxx-everything-seems-same-but-price.html ), except it costs $12 with prime shipping. Razorock's aftershave wax and "mudder focker" soap (really closer to a "croap") are also among my favorites.

The beautiful de razor pics in this thread have me wishing I had pulled the trigger on an ASD2 when massdrop had them. Sounds like a treat to shave with! I do enjoy the smooth feel and heft of my black aluminum standard, but it may be time to expand my options!

Yeah, I saw the ASD2 as well, and for a while I think they had the Feather shavette. Gotta keep up with them. Might try that one (the soap). Thanks @dubiousmike!

BTW, I just order a Dovo 101581 which is the 5/8" single stabilizer, rived tang version, "professionally honed" by a known entity @ straightrazorplace (the Superior Shave store). We shall see.

    This is the one:

    http://www.thesuperiorshave.com/straight_razors_dovo_best_quality_101581.html

Based on this information, it is possible that there are two "Best Quality" versions of the 6/8" product as there is on the 5/8".

LOL! will still continue to hone my 6/8" though. I need to learn how to properly do this shit.

Another Razorock fan here. Yup, that XXX is the cat's meow. I recently picked up the Hawk single-edge razor from him. Totally irritation free shaves. Don't get the black one though, it shows a soapy film the moment it even sees any lather coming at it. i.e. it looks dirty immediately.

@ultrabike I think having one straight that is professionally honed will be really great for you to compare to when you are practicing your honing.

In honor of baseball opening day I picked up a new soap this morning. It really does smell like fresh cut grass and caramel corn. I had a leisurely shave and now I am sitting on the couch and watching the first games.

I am really enjoying trying out different soaps and aftershaves. It isn't particularly economical to have 5 shaving soaps, but it is certainly fun to have a variety of scents.

That is a kick ass setup right there @Stapsy. You are using Feathers with that?

I am still trying a bunch of different blades. The last couple days were Personna Med Prep.

Definitely living moist with the setup. A stainless razor should last longer than my lifetime and I like the option to change heads. I actually just ordered the aluminum version with the moderate head. Since I am familiar with the stainless razor, I thought it would be interesting to see how it compares with a lighter aluminum razor.

The brush is a Simpsons in Best Badger and I love it. I couldn't tell the difference between the Best Badger and the Super Badger in the store so I opted for the cheaper brush. It has an amazing density and lot of backbone compared to my previous brush. I may get another one and rotate them every other day to allow them to fully dry between shaves.

Yeah. Two brushes is not such a bad idea. If they don't completely dry up, they start to smell like badger breath after a few weeks of use.

BTW @Stapsy, I was able to fully shave nicely with my Dovo today. I gave it a little extra sharpening a few days ago and gave it a go today. I can't tell you that it shaves better than the GD 208 right now. They shave about the same IMO. But we'll see if the GD 208 holds an edge as long as the Dovo.

Also, I have another Dovo coming. This one professionally honed. I also bought my GD 208 professionally honed, and I think I did a good job in sharpening it relative to what I got originally. We'll see how the new Dovo compares.

Strictly speaking, none of these straight razors are exactly the same. The GD 208 I have does not have a stabilizer and it's full hollow (Originally 6/8, but likely 5/8 now). The Dovo I currently have has two stabilizers (it was full hollow 6/8 - 100681 w jimps on the top of the tang). The Dovo in the mail has one stabilize (half hollow 5/8 - 101581).

So the problem with Barbasol is that it smells great (well the original does) and the lanolin one is super moisturizing but you get different consistency of product based on how full the can is. It starts out a little too dry and finishes a little too thin but nothing as bad as Gillette Foamy. Edge in comparison is the same every time. The worst was Aveeno; unusably thin, the Mug Soap of canned shaving cream.

LOL! I've actually used Williams Mug Shaving Soap in the past. It's not too bad, but definitively not Col Conk or Proraso. I found Cremo shaving cream surprisingly good though.

I've used Barbasol in the past. It's IMO very good indeed. I prefer soap and cream with the brush. But I don't think you can go wrong with Barbasol.

If you haven't done so, you should post some pics of your setup @Psalmanazar. We love shaving gear porn in this thread. Specially your Feather stuff.

In case anyone is interested Maggard Razors is having their annual meet in Michigan on May 13th - $12 gets you some samples and some good BBQ.

e: I found the raw video of their last meet, see here if curious about what to expect.

Man! I'm I SoCal. But if I was anywhere near Michigan, you bet I would be all over this.

Is there anything link it in SoCal?

Not that I'm aware of, the best you could do to sample some stuff is go to a "local" artisan such as:

Chiseled Face (my favorite mentholated soap is their Cryogen soap) located in two wet shaving stores in Chino and Thousand Oaks, and Old Town Shaving in Pasadena.

I wish I were closer...shaving, craft beer, and BBQ sounds amazing. The local shop here had a similar meet up last year. If they do it again I will definitely check it out.

I was having a blast watching Indian "cosmic" head massages, specially with Baba. But shit! These guys really know how to shave:

From the handling of the brush, to the full use of the shavette. All the way to technique. All with such an ease. Awesome!

Notice the removal of the lather on the sideburns to make sure were to start. The application of the Alum block (which might actually be ice to close the pores?). The shave looks pretty close. Not many passes. Possible hair is not too dense.

The rest just cracks me up. I'm sure the "relax" works and all, but it's still make me laugh.

All shits and giggles aside, this guy is IMO a master barber.

I've been dilatory in posting a pic of my shave set. Finally remembered to snap one this morning! The aesop bowl is probably my favorite piece.
