I've been itching to get a blue dial watch, will have to wait for the next major milestone. The Daytona was for my 40th birthday.

The Tangente line is stunning! Thanks for posting about these. Aesthetics remind me of what I like best about Baume & Mercier but evidently with a much higher quality movement and build. Looks like they do manual wind and autos in that style as well. I think this may well be what I aspire to to replace my Hamilton when the time is right.

@FallingObjects Big congrats on the masters degree!

@dubiousmike Yeah, I think a Nomos is a great watch to save up for! That's why I wanted to share a bit about them.

@rott Whoa! That's one of the nicest modern Daytonas you've got there! Very nice.

You're a sport chronograph fan, so maybe in a few you'll pick this up for your blue dialed watch? https://www.omegawatches.com/watche...ch/omega-co-axial-chronograph/31190445103001/

Or swing for the fences with a white gold daytona? https://www.rolex.com/watches/images/8dgkal0/share/m116509-0071.jpg
I tried this on, it's very nice.

I'd like not to go larger than 42mm for a watch, and the blue might be a more traditional 3-hander so probably no larger than 40mm.

I do like some of the Speedmasters, might be inevitable getting the "basic" manual wind Moonwatch sometime in the next couple years, but it's crazy how many variations on the same theme Omega keeps pumping out while pushing the price higher and higher.

I have tried on a couple precious metal Daytonas, but they're not for me. The White Gold one you linked is nice, but at that price level (which I'm not ready to throw down anyway) I'd be looking for a JLC or Patek. Nautilus comes to mind: https://monochrome-watches.com/patek-philippe-nautilus-5711-philipp-man-chronext-collectors-series/ (that link has some of the better images of the 5711). I suppose one could get on a waiting list and dream. It's not like the kids really need that college fund.

@rott it's unfortunate that there aren't many nice men's watches in the sub 40mm category. I for one have hilariously small wrists, so anything larger than a 42mm dial on me just ends up looking comically large.

FC and Weil both have some pretty nice looking stuff that may be more in your range though. I'd recommend them a look if you haven't given them one yet, though you probably know more about watches than I do.

    Me too.

Even looking for a modestly ordinary watch got difficult. I was fascinated by the Skagen watches with titanium-mesh bracelets (and also hoping they would survive permanent tropical sweat longer than leather or anything corrodible). I just loved the designs I was seeing (a year or three ago) but found two problems...

    1. Eyesight not good enough to read the time without putting on glasses. This is just not on.

    2. Not only were the watches too large for my tiny wrists, but the bracelets don't flex enough to grip.

And their ladies' watches, even though not expressly feminine... just a bit too small.

So I have, ever since, been taking my phone out of my pocket to find out the time. No more watches. But they are still fun to look at, especially some of the stuff here, which is beyond fun and more like beauty.

Watch arrived today. Here's the box it came in (and my current watch, a Fossil I got from some family friends as a high-school grad gift. Wow, that makes me feel old.)

The leather is darker than expected, but it's a marvelous thing to look at. Box is magnetically sealed, has good packing to prevent movement, and those little clasps are metal tabs you have to bend back to open. You can also see the certification papers underneath the User's manual, and it comes with a 2 year international service warranty on the movement of the watch (if I made out the German properly, at least).

Cost was $425 CAD, shipping & taxes inclusive. My camera doesn't do this thing justice, and I can't wait for the strap to break in a bit. Speaking of the strap, it's a tiny bit on the long side, so I may need to get another hole drilled in the band.

Sorry for joining late on the Nomos buzz, here's an action shot of mine:

It's a Timeless Club II, edition of 100 (more info here: http://www.timelessluxwatches.com/promotions/timeless-club-ii). I had my eye on the Nomos Club and Orion for a while, but when I saw this special edition I couldn't resist. I love all of the small details that Timeless requested on this particular model (unique movement, different lume on the hour & minute hands, etc.)

I thought I would update the watch thread with a useless but awesome complication.

    THE EQUATION OF TIME:
So, a day is 24hrs, right? That's mean solar time, but... true solar time varies up to 16 minutes shorter or 14minutes longer.

See that smushed jellybean shape that the true solar time makes?

Now, look at this: A Breguet perpetual calendar-it even handles leap years-tourbillon which I tried on because I have a weird idea of fun:

Look at the tourbillon (the hole where the heart of the movement actually rotates, which looks cool), see a certain smushed shape?

It's the equation of time! The dark blue hand with the little Sun pointing at :40 is the equation of time hand, while the usual minute hand is at :35 or so. The true solar time is a day that is shorter than 24hrs, at least for the day in question.
See? Useless, but cool that this could be done in a purely mechanical watch.

Let's see the watch in motion and explained by a Chinese lady with bright red hair:

This was so cool I was going to send it to my wife as an example of a watch I like (she says it's impossible to shop for watches for me).

Then I saw the $215k USD price tag and closed the browser window.

Very nice piece. Sinn is an excellent choice with many desirable models!

Yeah. I have their U1 (in the background of that same photo) and also had a B-Uhr which I sold because at 40mm and with the case design, it looked weirdly small on my wrist for some reason (I have other 40mm that don't look as small). Now I'm saving for either an Arktis or a Krystall (blue dials). :)

I'm also a fan of the Arktis with the blue dial. I've got a search set up on e-bay and watch recon, but one hasn't popped up when I've had cash available. The Sinn is such a classic tool watch that one day will be mine. Have you seen the anthracite/grey dials in person? Pictures don't do them justice.

Was going through my watch box tbis morning, and pulled this one out. My grandfather used to own this model (But not *this* watch). When he passed, the watch was mysteriously missing. Long story short, the damn missing watch created quite a bit of tension among my parentsand their siblings. Well many years ago I sought to recreate that watch. So this one was built from individually sourced loose pieces and parts over the course of about 2 1/2 years. This actually contains a generic Valjoux 72, which Rolex simply OEM'd back in the day. The Rolex version of the movement differs in minor ways, and only aesthetically to the best of my knowledge. A couple bridges stamped with Rolex, and that's about it. I even had an opportunity to obtain those parts, but never did. The Franken watch came together nicely, but mostly sits in my watch box these days. By modern standards, it is exceedingly small. Most women wear watches this size or larger today. But still retains its place as one of my personal favorites.

So, now, coming up on a big family reunion back in the Midwest soon, I decided to start wearing this again.

    Rolex 6265.

I nearly lost my balance when I saw that @bazelio !!

I have my own franken watch. Mind you, the only thing 'wrong' with it is that it is a different Omega case than what it originally came with so that it is a little larger (36mm)
