    Hi all,

    Imgur Album

I've been slowly liquidating the last 3 years and what remains is what has outlasted all my other rigs. Nothing has brought me as much enjoyment (or headache) as this - and I'm including the DIYT2/Stax rig, Apex Pinnacle, BA>R10 etc. You get the picture.

A little bit of history. I managed to build up about 10 pieces of Moth gear (most of their less than insane line) in a bid to become and actual moth museum. This was the coupe foi gras.

It started off as a Moth 2A3 Amp (not the cheaper si2a3, the full blown 2A3.) I already knew from another 2A3 that I owned that all caps needed to be checked, as the rectifier/PS was in-chassis, and caused significant problems with internal components over time.

Craig is old and didn't want to do the work, so I ended up getting the original Moth tech to do all replacement work for me and move rectifier/PS to another box so the issues wouldn't crop up again.. It took over 18 months and hundreds of dollars of HV replacement parts.

After all that time, he still didn't have it re-assembled and tested. I told Craig and he was ticked, he ended up driving over and picking it up himself, and finishing the job. As far as I know, this is one of only two units ever to be two-boxed, and it was definitely done much more recently and professionally.

Craig offered to sell me his worn HyperDAC, but I found something much cooler (and rarer.) A tubed HyperDAC. I believe this is also one of 1 or 2 ever made but I last talked to Craig about this a long time ago.

How does it sound? I almost don't remember, its been a while. Smooth but still pretty detailed is my vague recollection. I liked it better than the BA, its warmer and less analytical sounding especially with the right 2A3's. Only amp I used for significant time with my Sennheisers. Switch out the DAC for something colder and you'll get something less warm. Dbel84 is the only other CSer that has heard it, unless Craig showed to Marv .

Included in the listing (unless someone wants separate) is a Gustard and Rooms FS Zebra headphone stand. DAC takes COAX in, so Gustard enables computer listening.

I'm putting this up for pirates first (is that still what we call ourselves? Or is it friendies?) before dropping this on the masses.

Not sure. There's the rich guy in Dubai price and the "regular" price. Marv was going to buy the package with two sets of uber tubes for 7K, without them I'm hoping for something in the 5K region.

I've lurked here and there. Have no time at this point for audio or much internet surfing but could stop by if they make an audiophile baby monitor that finds the unbelievably annoying frequencies and EQ's them out for a pleasant crying listening experience.

Can't help with the frequencies beyond the usual blah blah of acoustic treatments, but maybe you can figure out how to implement this live for a baby video monitor:

Tzvi, if I had the disposable cash I'd buy this set just to keep a piece of history. Good luck, buddy.

Thanks Ravi. I've waffled about it myself quite a bit as well, ultimately my flame is elsewhere so the Moth has to go.

I regret (somewhat) the BA sale too. Free pair of PX4 converter doohickeys for anyone who needs (great for some of the KR's which have different pinouts.)

    Adding this to the listing:

Moth PS5 Passive Attenuator/Switchbox. Especially helpful for those with lots of sources. That brass Moth appendagey blacking the phones ouptut is just another random Joel touch.

Changing of the guard! Miss the late night rendezvous.

This amp is built like a tank with Faberge detail and has such finesse with music, it will bring the toughest marauder to her knees.

What more to say, this is an incredible opportunity to own a true classic that still holds its own by today's standards.... and for an incredible bargain.

Thanks Don, not ruling out future ones! Just don't know if I can provide gear and if I will still be awake.
