    Nice. Might make a decent office headphone with a less big-balled setup

    Distortion profiles. The HD660S distortion profile looks most like the HD650's.

    Well ok, I give up, I guess I'm just going to have to get the HD 600 AGAIN, I had some kind of crazy modded HD 580 [600 Drivers in 580 Assembly] way back in the day but I wasn't a fan of it mostly because It was SE, so I could only use it with the sub-optimal output of my NFB10ES2...

    One question though, how do the newer models differ from the Older?

    Subjectively, the HD660S sounds the most taut, with the HD600 the least. The HD600 sounds "fastest", followed by the HD660S.

    How does the distortion compare to the HD6XX? Your graph for the latter has a way different scale so it's hard to tell what the differences are, if any.

    I still need to grab fresh HD6XX, but the HD6XX distortion is the same (more or less) the HD650KISS mods.

    HD650K with different pads. The pads are basically the same. Not even going to take a photo. The HD650 pads are still fairly new.

    YELLOW = HD650 pads
    GREEN = HD660S pads

    I guess at least HD660S pads are going to be useful supposedly they have more inner space.

    Good to see the pads don't impact the sound signature like many aftermarket ones can (negatively for the most part), can you confirm the inner space theory for these pads or is it a case of people comparing brand new pads to used ones? I take it you saying they're the same thing kills that theory.

    REPEAT: The pads look the same more or less. That is if I swapped one pad on one side with another, and forgot it about it, I would not know which pad belonged to which headphone. Did Sennheiser confirm the pads were different?

    Yes, a rep confirmed the change on HF [link]. Looks like a minor tweak though

    I'm wondering if the pads weren't also a silent update to recent HD 650 because the pads on mine definitely feel tapered.

    The HD600 might be the one pair of headphones I'll never sell. I've thought about it a few times after getting more expensive headphones but have always decided against it. I've listened to the stock HD650 and knew I preferred the HD600 right away. The HD600 has such a cohesive, sweet, non-fatiguing sound throughout whereas with the HD650 the darkness of the sound took part of that cohesiveness and sweetness away. Maybe I just have a preference for headphones leaning more toward bright than dark.

    If the pads are the same, that kills the most interesting part of these headphones for me.

    The pads appear to measure the same. The new pads are, however, physically different. See @monacelli's post above and the link therein.

    I think the foam itself might be different too, seems to have a slightly faster rebound. Might just be because my 660 pads haven't been broken in yet though.

    One pad is from HD660S. The other is from a HD650.

    They do indeed look essentially indistinguishable. I'm not sure where the Sennheiser dude got the "donut" vs "cup" analogy. How do they feel on your head Marvey? Any difference in comfort/roominess?

    The feel the same. The HD650 pads are fairly new still. I lost track and forgot which was which.

    Just gonna assume the less worn-in pair (left) is from the HD660S. Taper on left pad also looks somewhat sharper, accounting for "cup v. doughnut" analogy?There's some merit to looking into how the foam within the pads themselves might be different from older 6-series cans, but as earlier stated could simply be due to their lacking break-in (really likely in fact).

    Friend who got to demo the HD660S during that surprise one-day thing at the local retailer said that they were definitively "faster" sounding than the HD650s he had on hand, but those were stock, so perhaps not all too fast. Actually more interested in A/Bing the HD660S against the HD600, whose tonality I seem to prefer.

    FWIW, thanks for saving me a needless purchase, @Marvey. I'll be scouring the used market for some 650s of my own so I can finally give modding em a shot.
