It's really hard to tell. If you desolder it, are there any part numbers that might help you track one down?

Yeah, like Elnrik said, you can likely find a replacement dual ganged audio taper pot with the same value. If you de-solder it you can measure the outside pins to give you the value.

Hard to guess without a parts list. 10K maybe?

Don't worry, most guys' knobs lean one way or the other.

It actually took longer than I expected for someone to go there.

I think it kinda looks cute with a bent knob :D (obviously, if it were my amp I probably wouldn't).

I did a bit of googling re upgrading the pot after I heard the scratchiness on mine, and unless you can find a pin-compatible pot with the knob the same height above the board, you're probably stuck replacing the stock Alps RK09. No idea which one of these it is: https://www.mouser.sg/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=Alps+RK09. Please report if you do find a drop-in "upgrade".

Jason said on AdFi that they get very few noisy pots. So I guess those of us here that have are just unlucky.

Just bought @Skyline's Magni 3 as he upgraded to Lyr 3. Here are my thoughts:\

First off, amazing amp for the price. Lots of technology in a small box for a small price. It whoops the previous Magni's in detail and power.

    FR:
Neutral. The most neutral. Very pleasing. Highs there but not piercing. Mids are clean and lows there, but not muddy or huge. I would not call it bass slam, but can be maybe slightly warm. Although it can my Audio-gd C-2C sound slow and thick on some tracks.

    Speed/Detail:
Very decent. This outclasses detail most amps in this price range. It has good layers of sounds, but at times sounds can step on each other with more complex tracks. Nowhere near the congestion of Magi 2 as it that sounded more power constrained. Not the most organic sounding amp, but everything comes through well.

Soundstage/Headstage: (meaning 3D positioning or depth)
Fair. Some might call this amp flat, but it does have something going for it. Although I will agree it probably is the flattest amp in the Schiit lineup, it still beats most average sources and if one does not have an amp. It still has plenty of detail to work with, just not as involving here. It still sounds like you are listening to a good recording instead of sounding like you are there in the room. It can sound open, but not quite as wide as some other amps.

    Power:
Very good. It can sound strained sometimes and it tends to kind of almost sound muted. I kind of get the feeling that these amps or this pivot point whatever actually a large waveform that is wall to wall brick limited. I think you could put this in a bigger box with some dead weights on the inside and really fool some folks.

I will say I mostly agree with Tyll's review, I don't agree that it would take $1,000 or $2,000 to best it. That one maybe a stretch.

Interesting side note: I think this is a reverse audio pot. The way most audio pots work is that it gets louder quickly then from about just past the middle to the last part is not as much change. This pot just works the opposite, meaning it does not change much at the beginning, but then has big jumps at the top of the travel. I can only guess this decision was made to suit high efficiency headphones to have more resolution at the bottom.

Overall: It does punch above it's weight class. I agree with most that Vali 2 has much more going for it in many areas of enjoyment, airyness, soundstage, etc. Vali 2 is just not for hard to drive headphones. I am really enjoying this Magni 3 and it is going to replace my older C-2C as the difference between the two is not real huge. This just goes to show you how things are going...the C-2C was a $300 amp +$100 shipping from China to the US in 2007 and this little $99 is pretty neck and neck with it. And if anyone has a Magni, or Magi 2, or Magni 2U, totally worth it to upgrade - better in every way.

Depends on the taper of the pot. Most audio pots actually work like Schiit's which is a log taper, the 'usual' pot you describe is a linear taper.

In the gear I have had, the log taper has been more common (I'd guess 80/20?) than a linear taper pot, so it feels pretty normal to me.

    One more thing -

Left it on for 24 hours or more...Not much has changed. Maybe the mids are not quite as grainy, but I already noticed that after it was on after a couple of hours. So I would say the mids and high mids smooth out after being on a few hours, but it will be subtle to most. It is not like it is going to open up the soundstage or sound supper yummy. It still has all the other characteristics from the get go. YMMV

Ask me a question, do you guys think it's a problem to pair Magni 3 with Ol Dac?

What a beautiful thing, answering my question with my question, but okay I'll rephrase my question: Would Ol Dac be such a good pairing when Modi 2 or Modi 2 is superior?

I'd take SDAC with Magni 3. If you don't care about headstage or close stage, then Modi Multibit. If you like the enveloping warmth of the OL DAC, then stick with that. Depends upon headphones and personal preferences. Start off with something cheap, tell us what you think, and then it's easier for people to point you in a direction. Everybody has different preferences. If you offer an reference point, it easier for people here to recommend something is suits your preferences rather than their own.

Doubt a lot, I go into a few posts and what I see most are banned people, just like I was banned for 2 weeks without even a prior notice, ie this site is a veritable dictatorship of the opinion operation. Or there is some bacca moderator who follows the Marxist ideology.

In case it would be the HD 6XX, but wait there, what do you mean by the heat of the Ol Dac? I thought he was neutral.

No, not Marxist, more like benevolent dictator, e.g. Lee Kuan Yew. Likely just as seemingly capricious as the Marxists, so get don't any illusions of democracy, rule of law, due process, etc.

    See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Kuan_Yew

Sometimes we ban people before they do something bad, like here:

Would this help with the scratchy pot some are experiencing with Magni 3? What things could I try?
