Thought I would post a working file instead of a finished one from my DAW. Not too glamorous but sometimes fun to put up what work goes into a song.

Ayyy, high-five from another Reaper user. People always give me clueless looks when I tell them I work in Reaper for professional production gigs...

Here's some older, excerpted material I did a ways back for a portfolio for a psycho-suggestive music gig. I'll put up some more recent stuff up when it's not late my time. I have a very high-fi album from my senior year at the big fancy recording studio at my conservatory. Needs some remastering though.

Also, @Cellist88 Love your tone! It's refreshing to hear really clean phrasing and vibrato like that. So many folks nowadays throw in unnecessary rubato and heavy bowing and it just muddies up the line. The Schumann particularly was great, you did so much expressing with dynamics and kept the tempo shifts subtle and the bowing light. Very nice playing.

Thanks @ThePianoMan . The other two recordings before were recorded almost 2 years ago. Its good to hear from something that I am improving :). Studying in Germany changed a lot of that weird rubato and taste that tends to plague many artists nowadays in their attempts to sound unique. I try to do only what is necessary and try to let the music speak for itself.

Ah, yeah. The Europeans will do that. I'm usually pretty open to interpretation, but so many artists nowadays just play a lot of notes without knowing why.

Also, @Garns the Unity Gain Temple stuff is HOT. Love it. Such an inventive mix of accessible and more out stuff.

Unrelated, Are you a Cat Empire fan?

After thinking about finishing something.. and never getting around to it, I'll just release these demos to the group. Maybe one day I'll polish something up. I'll point out the non pop rock stuff as interesting experiments. That said, enjoy.

    I released this today - https://slewrate.bandcamp.com/album/infra-ultra

    6 tracks / 6 sessions

infra is about emergent patterns and incidental time

ultra was a personal speed-mixing exercise - trying to find a creative use of saturation and side-chain compression. Lots of focus on the bass and building up the density of textures.

Both are a bit more assertive than my ambient tracks, and have a bit more of my voice in them as well.

Edit - everything was 100% created, mixed, and mastered with the Code-6.

Man, is it satisfying to get the creative juices flowing after a break - here's my one-man-rock-band's new tune & music video:

This time I concentrated on snappy drum beats, clear melodies and keeping it short. Plus loads of guitar effects! :D It gets kind of proggy at times.

I once again recorded drums at our rehearsal space and the rest (guitars, bass, keys) at home. Video editing was done with iMovie.

It's very nice to see and hear so many cool entries, keep 'em coming!

Already posted a couple times in this thread but I thought I'd share another -

    https://slewrate.bandcamp.com/track/qeilinp

This one is really an exploration of microdynamics via the use of semi-granular sounds across various frequency bands, with some fractalesque patterns.

Kind of has an implicit as opposed to explicit rhythm. Maybe not as accessible as my previous posts but alas, this is how I spend my free time.

Download for free for lossless quality!

As always... made, mixed and mastered with LFF Code-6 using REAPER. Album art made in Photoshop Extended CS6

Posted in my status but figured I'd post here too.

Hoping to wake up this thread, I want to hear more original music from Friends!

This one is a little different than some of my other stuff. Ambient meets... something else. Very proud of how the bass turned out.

Once again, download for free for lossless quality. Produced with REAPER / HE-6. Feedback appreciated.

    Here's one I made today. It's under 90 seconds - https://slewrate.bandcamp.com/track/knroistiglia

It's a very minimal arrangement involving a binaural field recording of a walk through the music school from my time at CalArts, a sped-up geiger counter, an extremely powerful deep kick, an effected synth sample, and a single snap, with some effects automation throughout.

Download free for lossless quality (certainly makes a difference w/ binaural cues and bass). Produced with REAPER / LFF HE-6. Comments always appreciated.

Very cool! I could imagine a longer instrumental track being done with this binaural recording used. Do you plan to keep working on it?

My two favourite activities (making music and videos) go hand in hand once again on this one, my one-man-band Crookmachine's new music video. Overall the dark side is strong on this one with an ever increasing emphasis on keeping things to-the-point, melodic and dynamic.

The recording, mixing etc. took a few months of some heavy after work activity, but it's quite satisfying to get to the finish line. Often ideas for riffs, melodies and rhythms just do loops in my head (most often when trying to sleep!) - they need to be released somewhere. For me music in general is a mandatory escape from the mundane aspects of everyday life. Making these tunes is almost therapeutic.

I played all the instruments (drums, guitars, bass and some keyboards). Logic X was used for audio and iMovie for video.

Nice to see this thread still going strong! :punk:

Nice balance between the dark elements with just enough lighter touches as an offset. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

Nice overall theme but the compressor breathing is a bit much. Otherwise enjoyable as something different.
