"clear" and wire with gain would fit the THX AAA most accurately imo :) just relaunched at massdrop so I would not hesitate

Yea I saw the drop too, so suddenly relevant. I completely forgot to mention I'm also not against gear that has a bit of an U shape in an amplifier. And I've read the Jotunheim has the better bass slam plus the MB dac integration

I would go modi/bifrost and the THX but that's just me. Eitr>Modi-multibit(v2 firmware)>THX-AAA

I don't want to open up a big can of worms, but I need some advice. My house has shitty power. Dips, spikes, brown outs etc. The house really needs a complete rewire. We had multiple power outs last night...at least five or six. It took out the PSU on my PC and I'm lucky it wasn't the mobo also.

    So I'm looking to add a better surge/battery backup. I have a Cyberpower 1500:

    https://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-C...1&keywords=cyberpower+battery+backup+sinewave

Is there something better that I should be looking at? Or I can move pc and all peripherals to the Cyberpower and get something specific for audio? I guess this last part is my real question.

Most of the UPSs are similar among the big names, APC, tripplite, cyberpower. I'd recommend looking for one that you can disable the audible alarm, it gets old fast, and with the option of easily replacing the battery. The batteries are much cheaper to replace vs buying another entire UPS.

I believe APC has an audio targeted line of UPSs. Perhaps worth looking into. Also: depending on the model age, the replacement battery can be more expensive then just buying a new UPS, out of own experience

Given your spend on gear, I’d pay an electrician to get things done right or at least get a sub panel and dedicated drops for your audio setup. Was well under $1000 for me to do that.

I would have done this already if it were my house. It's a rental.

Hi! I am in this hobby for a while now and I've been reading some posts on this forum that were more insightful and honest than in other places! Good to be here!

Hi all, I'm looking for a $400 pair of bluetooth, powered speaker. What would be your recommendations?

I was looking at Riva Arena and Denon Envaya 250 (was leaning towards the Denon) but then decided that I could forego portability for a step up in sound. After a bit of researching, I have come down to the KEF Egg and Q Acoustic 3020. Does anyone has any experience with either of those two? I'm leaning towards the KEF for its portability.

For background info, I will be placing these on my desk (i.e. 2-3 ft away from me). I would appreciate near field too but I'm not sure if I could find a decent choice that is powered and has bluetooth at this point. Thank you for reading!

    Thank you for the recommendation.

So I have narrowed it down to 2 choices: the Vanatoo Transparent Zero and iLoud Micro monitors. I'm having trouble deciding which one to get, and the breakdown goes something like this:

    - portability: tied. both are great for my needs
    - bluetooth connection: I want something that can switch seamlessly (finger crossed) on that between my laptop, phone, and TV. Not sure which one has a more stable connection but both are recent models so I'm assuming this would not be an issue (please correct me)
    - sound quality: I'm looking for a comparison for both wired and bluetooth. According to noaudiohile, the T0 sounds quite a bit better according to his ratings:

-cost: T0 goes for $350 while I can get an iLoud for $250. If the SQ is indeed that much of a difference then I'm willing to spit out another hundo but if not, that's good money saved. Personal sound preference: relatively neutral, though I'm a mid-head, would prefer a bit less bass than a bit too much base, pretty easy going with treb except for either extremes. Overall, I like a planar sound or more specifically a really good planar like Code X.

    Thank you for reading folks.

P.S. these will be on my working desk, i.e. a few ft away from me. And sorry for the crappy image, my PTS broke down.

Never heard the iLoud so I can't really compare.

I am looking for recommendations for good IEMs around $100. My current choice would be the Vsonic GR07.
Will the GR07 provide better sound than a Sennheiser HD 598 SR (my current benchmark at $100)?
I know it's a bit of an apple and orange comparison but the overall question remains: can IEMs match or better the sound of fullsize headphones with a $100 budget and a phone / laptop source (no separate amp nor DAC)?
My sound signature preference leans toward neutral with good resolution (i.e. more HD600 than HD650).

Budget player, to check a decent experience? Don't you feel some conflict here?
Anyway, look around on the local second hand market.

If you're not afraid of buying from abroad, check the top bracket on this site: https://audiobudget.com/leaderboard/iem
It's price range is below your aimed target, but still worth a try. For example, the RevoNext QT2 is better than many $100 IEMs of the mainstream brands.

I bring Pioneer DVD-V7400 to meet events when I need a transport. You can usually find a deal for these used - just look at the total cost of purchase, and watch out for low price / high shipping false "deals". A quick glance at eBay, I found one for $43 combined cost - true deal.

In my experience, a headphone in that range does perform better than an iem. They can get close but the main differences in the two presentations with generally larger soundstage, dynamics, spatial representation, overtones and texture, etc give the full sized cans the edge. IEMs can get close at the $100 mark but you would have to pay handsomely to get some to outperform the 600/650.
