Universal remote: control receiver and tv. Program functions into one button to turn on or off multiple devices at one touch. Logitech remote that I have includes phone app to control the hub as well so no remote needed if wanted but a remote with physical buttons is quicker than turning on a phone or tablet and app.

If your TV has a headphone connection you could use a pair of active book shelf speakers with it and get much better sound than any sound bar. The active speakers will work with your TVs volume control making it very easy to use. Plus they sound better than passive speakers with a receiver.

Something like the JBL LSR-305 would be an excellent choice and can often be found under $250. These have decent bass by themselves but if you want deeper shake the house bass add their LSR-310 subwoofer $400.

If the sound bar fits your aesthetic better look at the Yamaha YAS-108 $(200) or the Costco version ATS-1080 ($150). If you want more bass you can add an inexpensive sub like a Dayton for a little more than $100.

Sound bars are good for giving better sound than TV speakers but don't expect miracles from them. The smaller speakers used in them simply can not compete with the bigger speakers in bookshelf speakers. Plus the vertical orientation of the woofer and Tweeter in speakers will disperse better in a room.

There is no doubt that sound bars are an aesthetic compromise but if your goal is to get better sound than the TV they are a huge improvement and a good solution for many situations. If you are into higher quality sound speakers would be a better choice.

Why did you cut and paste somebody else's words from two years ago?
