Choosing a Pre-amp

Hi, I am new to your forum and I am hopeful that your forum might be able to give me some Non-Naim centric advice.

I am currently building a system around a pair of speakers that I like, ATC SCM 40, and a power amplifier Naim NAC 300DR which drives them well. I am presently fronting up the system with my previous hardware, an ‘all in one’ unit, a Naim SuperUniti, which does the job of streaming, includes a DAC, provides for analogue inputs, a power amp (which I no longer use) and a volume control.

I am looking to replace the SuperUniti ‘all in one’ as I suspect it is holding back the rest of my system in terms of quality, I cannot afford to buy a new dedicated streamer, Naim Pre-amp and its external power supply all at once, so I have decided to buy a pre-amp to partner my Naim power amp first.

I would like a single box solution (which rules out Naim) and I am happy to try an alternative, it could be solid state, tube or a hybrid, as long as it is able to drive the NAC 300 effectively.

I have seen lots of different pre’s on the new and used markets, but the choice is bewildering and I am not sure which would happily partner my power amp.

Does anyone have experience of using non Naim pre-amps with Naim power amps and if so what are your findings, good and bad. I would prefer a previously used item rather than pay new prices :0)

Thank you Psalmanazar, that's an interesting option I haden't previously considered. Very similar in function to the hugo II which I was aware of.
