No worries, I phrased it very cautiously, certainly not shooting anything down. This is a very slick solution.

It may not be for you. I understand. But I can honestly tell you that I would seriously consider it. I might go this route one day if I ever get to make my little Kappalite 15" based 3-way ported design a reality. Because of bass management which is hard to go around w/o using equalization anyway. That said, there is the challenge of doing the analog crossover.

While I don’t doubt it’s DAC output probably doesn’t sound as good as a Yggdrasil, it is a convenient way to easily and quickly try different crossovers and EQs and tune in a system. Ideally, I would love to find a product like this with the addition of digital I/Os.

Have you evaluated the MiniDSP nanoDIGI (https://www.minidsp.com/products/minidsp-in-a-box/nanodigi-2x8-b)? It's a similar sort of DSP as the Dayton (and other miniDSP products) but with SPDIF digital i/o and so no extra a/d -> d/a process.

Thanks for this suggestion. It has been several years since I used a miniDSP and see they have expanded their product range significantly. I am also glad to see they now offer the option of first order, 6dB/oct crossover slopes, because before they didn’t and this is my preferred crossover method between woofers and midrangers/full-rangers.

If I am doing rear mounting, what size circular cutout do I need to make for the OB-A15 Neo?

Let's first get this out of the way, for the price this unit is probably fine. Just don't expect any kind of miracles sound wise and it wouldn't to measure it to see whether the output actually does what the UI says. Usually the downfall of these budget class DSP boxes is DAC/ADC performance at low signal levels, which is probably what it'll be doing if you use digital attenuation. But again, for 150$ you get an entry level stereo DAC in the hifi world, so the value is hard to miss.

For something more serious I'd get this or a high quality audio interface and a Mac Mini.

I was wondering this also, but thought I'd wait to ask when I pick up my woofers in a week or two. You could also email PAP and Ze'ev usually responds within a day. He's been really helpful with all of my questions so far.

I emailed him but I thought I'd get a quicker answer here. He did reply but I think he misunderstood my question. I was hoping to start cutting the holes for the baffle last night, but it rained so I had to scrap that plan. I will post Ze'ev's reply once I get it.

Are you planning to pick them up from PAP in Iowa City?

I should get mine in a week or so.

Yep. I save a few bucks on shipping plus Thomas agreed to do a quick demo for me. he has a Heil ESS Trio 15 on hand which is what I’m building, so I’ll at least get a taste of what they should sound like to be able to judge how my crossover compares based on ultrabikes design posed in this thread. Also seeing one in person will probably help clarify a few build questions.

I don’t expect this to be a long demo, probably a song or two as I don’t want to take advantage of Thomas’ generosity, but I’ll try to post some quick impressions as it doesn’t sound like anyone here has ever heard a version with the Heils.

Has anyone measured the Voxativ full range drivers? How flat is the frequency response and how high does it reach at the high frequency end?

that's very useful. Looks rather nice and usable from 300-10kHz.

I am testing out a Lii Audio Crystal 10 driver. Along with Voxativ they also claim frequency range to 20kHz, which obviously neither of them are not.

    Voxativ AC-X from K+T 5/09. They cost 1/2 of today's price.

Here is my measurement of the Lii Audio Crystal 10. Not the ideal measuring condition with my room at 20x20x8. The dip at ~70Hz is due to the 8 feet ceiling. the other bumps can be due to various mode too. So please take that with a grain of salt. But hopefully it give some idea of how it would end up.

the green FR is with a 4ft tall x 6ft wide baffle
the purple FR is with a 4ft tall x 54cm wide PAP style baffle

I will receive my PAP 15" this Friday. Lots of fun coming up this weekend.

with just 2 PAP OB15neo, I am pairing it with the Lii Audio F-15 as the other woofer.

did some measurement of the OB15neo, and it resemble the advertised FR curve. I got the newer type with the open dust cover.

I also played around with the crossover, replicated the 1st order series crossover (Leonidas) with 51uF and 3mH, the flattest I got was with 4R7/8R2 L-pad but it sounds too dull to my ears.

    here is the OB15neo:

    here is the combined FR:

I am just going by measurement and ears. I want to learn how to do the computer simulation like you guys!
