Bronn will probably attempt to kill either Jamie or Tyrion or both this episode.....

If he tries to do in either of them... Total storytelling failure. That would be so lame.

Felt this episode got things back on track. Wrapped up the post battle nicely and set things up for shit to hit the fan for the final two episodes.

Hate watching GOT is incredibly popular these days. Personally I'd rather watch something I enjoy but to each their own.

Thought this was a great episode and a pretty decent season overall so far. Sad to see another dragon fall, but at least Ghost still lives! After the writers forgot about him for an entire season...

I bet Cercei lives at season's end, just to piss me off.

Too bad Jon didn't even give him a pat on the head goodbye...

I don't know what that means. I'm speaking as a disappointed fan who has enough respect for the show to hold it to a standard. The writing was subpar to embarrassing.

There’s such a big drop off from when they had the books as templates. If the spoilers about the end are legit then I don’t think too many people will find it satisfying. Maybe if Martin has been able to give them more than an outline for what was supposed to happen they could have pulled it off, but he’s been content to do anything but write the next book, probably because he knows it’ll be almost impossible to live up to the hype.

I agree about Martin's source material playing a major role, but I'm referring more to the basic execution of scenes and character development. Just paying attention to where you are and not ruining it. Take your pick ... like, Jamie and Brienne ... what an undignified waste of a reasonably well-developed unrequited love story. They get drunk and f**k and the next day he rides off to probably die. Thank you, writers of General Hospital.

    f**k you Euron!

Anyhow. Things are looking gloomy for Danny. I dunno how this is going to end well. It more than likely won't.

Idiot is not going to be a good king, because he is an idiot. Furthermore, Danny wants to solve everything with dragons and full head on war. Zero strategy.

I mean common, nobody likes Cercei. Where is the cunning of a queen or king? Can Danny just have the spider or whatever pull something out like Cercei did with that green fire deal? WTF! Sansa would be a half-ass decent queen. But there is not much to work with between Danny and Idiot.

Therefore, it seems the little brother in the Cercei prophecy is really the little sister, i.e. Arya. Which will probably be the one to hit Cercei later. After Idiot and Danny die. Then who the hell knows will take the Iron throne. Maybe Gendry, or worse, Sam. Maybe Idiot survives, and come to think about it, that's proly on the same level or worse than Sam taking over.

One more thing. About Arya. She did took that cunt Frey and his entire seedlings beautifully.

Then she took the Night Pimp, and did so with style.

And now she seem like the only reasonable solution to the Cercei problem.

She is Azor Ahai in my book. Hope she doesn't die before then end, cuz then Westerus is fucked and so is the show's ending.

    Arya for the win!!

Edit: I think my head will explode if one more character uses the line “bend the knee”. Seems it has to be said at least once an episode.

I thought this season was going OK until now but whooeeee that was like watching a badly rehearsed school play. All those great actors and behind everyone's eyes you can see them thinking KILL ME NOW as the scriptwriters drop clanger after clanger on them.

    The good:
    - Honestly didn't see the Rhaegal bit coming. Those scorpions are pretty bad-ass
    - I like the Varys vs. Tyrion tension they've set up, kind of like Spy vs. Spy
    - Arya and The Hound riding off to settle their personal vendettas
    - Sansa is getting really intense, but broke her vow in 10 seconds

    The bad:
    - The Jaime/Brienne part was disappointing.
    - How the heck does Euron capture Missandei out of the water but not Tyrion or Varys? She grew up living on the beach for pete's sake!
    - Snow saying goodbye to everyone before he rode off was sappy as heck - seemed a bit like Dorthy saying farewell ("Sam-crow, I think I'll miss you most of all...")

Anyway, curious to see what happens in 8:5 and 8:6, but not setting my hopes too high. (sigh)

The squid-boats were in line abreast and were not mounting stern-chasers (at least, not of anti-dragon calibre). The correct manoeuvre would have been to get behind them and pass along their line, pouring broadsides into the stern of each.

I mean, it's important that dragon vs sailing-ship warfare should be depicted realistically.

If only they could have found a way to capture a small number of wights and air-drop them into the Red Keep, kind of like an zombie airborne unit...

(and yes, I know that wouldn't be possible unless the Night King was still "alive", but seemed like a cool idea)

I've felt the same way too. Even back in Season 2, I had to reread the second book to figure out the subtle things that didn't happen in the show...First Season was perfectly executed in contrast to the book imo.

But then again GMMR is taking forever to write the last book plus helping with the show - I'll be surprised if he actually finishes so the ending HBO gives is what we get.

I saw this on Twitter originally, but went to verify for myself: they serve Starbucks at Winterfell. At 17:39 in the episode, you can see what is clearly a plastic-topped coffee cup on the table in front of Dany. Hilarious!

Sorry for the bad screenshot. I had to take a pic of my monitor with my phone to get around HBO copy protection.
