I think the mountain will kill the hound, and Arya will kill the mountain. I also think Jaime will kill Cersei as a sort of redemption. Danny will get killed somehow, and Jon will be on the throne at the end. I don't think the writers are capable of anything more creative than that.

I'd wager that the reverse happens. The Hound slays the Mountain, but is mortally wounded in combat. Arya then gives the Hound a mercy killing.

It would nicely mirror Arya leaving him for dead a few seasons ago, signifying that the Hound has somewhat found redemption in her eyes. I also vaguely remember some foreshadow-ish dialogue between the both of them during the journey to The Twins, where Arya said that she would one day stick a blade through his eye (or something like that...)

They shoulda just had Jon pound Mellisandre one last time before she decided to kill herself to create a shadow assassin to go stab Cersei in the back.

I feel like they're going to feel just a little more pressure to have a "twist" ending than Jon taking the throne. My bet's on something wacky like:
    • Jon, Dany, Cersei, Jaime, Hound, Mountain, Dragon, etc. all die
    • Sansa & Tyrion amicably decide to split the kingdom
      • Sansa takes the north, vale, riverlands
      • Tyrion (through Gendry) takes the southern stuff
    • Epilogue: 10+ years later, 2 separate kingdoms are doing ok. Neither Sansa nor Bran ever marries, so Arya's kid (from that time in the stables) is heir to the whole shebang. Just to take the edge off a happy ending, someone somewhere starts making plots to get all that power and the whole game of thrones starts all over again. Somewhere in the frozen north, some bad ice thing opens its eyes. Cut to credits.

Well, if we are going to play that game I see the following as a fitting but very unlikely ending...

At the very end after a bunch of fighting, death etc. we are left with just Cersei and the Mountain alone in the throne room. Both are bloody and bruised and keenly aware of all the carnage around them, and just when Cersei begins to smugly crack a smile in acknowledgement of her "victory" the mountain walks towards her and utters his first words in years... "Your enemies are all dead as I promised... now its YOUR turn"... and off goes Cersei's head. One constant theme in this show has been that TRUE power corrupts pretty much every time... so why shouldn't the most corrupt/inhuman character left end up sitting on the throne?

If Jon dies, Dany goes back to having the 'rightful' claim to the throne? I wouldn't be surprised if Dany takes a shot at Jon and dies in the process.

She starts acting mad like her dad and then Jon pulls a Kingslayer on her. Everything is a throwback!

Spoilers (from reddit) are that it’ll happen. I’m still hoping HBO managed to keep the real ending from people by shooting multiple scenes but the way the rest of this season has worked out I’m not expecting them to pull off an ending that most people like. Then again I think the NK should have been the climactic battle and that it was always stupid to go off to the north to fight the dead while leaving an enemy at your back.

Without the battle with the Night King and his White Walkers, there is no way Cersei and her forces have any chance at all of putting up a reasonable fight. Regardless what Jon thought, the real battle has always been for the throne in King’s Landing.

Oh, and let’s keep the spoilers for past episodes that others may have not watched yet. Please don’t tell us what spoilers there are on shows that have not yet aired.

f**k Kings Landing, the real battle was with the NK.

And that battle lasted one single episode, where all goes black on the average Joe's LED TV.

Things are so over, that it all came down to Danny thinking about all her love and job disappointments over a latte grande at Winterfell.

Right now it's all down to curiosity about the remaining characters that should have died at Winterfell, but didn't for the sake of two more sorry episodes.

But again, this show is over. And so is my HBO subscription in one more week.

Its fun to talk the wacky theories as guesses to see how close we get to the actual dumb writing of this last season. If there are indeed legit spoilers on Reddit, I would say yeah, lets avoid them here.

Edit: Oops, not the needledrop comparison thread - but since I'm here...

Hound gets killed by a rando before getting to the Mountain. Arya kills Mountain while wearing Hound's face. Arya later kills Cersei wearing headless Ned's face.

Wouldn't that be something. Arya wearing the face of someone massive, using it to kill someone and then taking it off to sudden lose like hundreds of pounds. This is the height and weight of the current actor playing the Mountain:
    Height 206 cm (6 ft 9 in)[1]
    Weight 180–200 kg (397–441 lb)

I would pay to see Arya gain like 300 pounds and lose it in an instant.

We've already seen her become invisible to sneak past the general staff to kill the Night King, so any other shape-shifting would be fair game...

And then start screaming halfway there to let him know about it so he had time to turn around and almost stop her. Makes for better tv than he just slinking up and sticking him I guess.

All hail King Gendry, Cersei will die and her brother will die defending her. Dany just wants to end the dictatorship. The mountain will die, the maester will die, baldy will get him. Dany will ride off into the sunset, John will die, there will be no point to him anymore. Bran will retire into the white tree. Tyrion will reclaim the family home. Baldy will be the Hand. Arya will discover her pregnancy and be queen. Sansa stays in the north.....Sorry for the spoilers....

Arya is going to have to ride really sloooooowly to discover a pregnancy by the time she gets down to King’s Landing.

It's easy to forget, now that everyone can teleport, but doesn't it actually take a while to get from winterfell to kings landing? Like 1-2 months? And then some more slowdown because they're marching a whole army.
