What are the woods? Ebony fretboard and .. maple body? Love the inlays... I'm a hack hack guitarist but can appreciate an awesome instrument (I have a SRV Strat and a Yamaha acoustic)!!

Camatillo back and sides. Should have taken it out of the case to show the sap wood on the sides. Honduran mahogany and maple binding. Englemann Spruce top. Fretboard is ebony. The camatillo smells amazing.

I also have a strat but I used to play a Yamaha SA2200. They make stellar instruments.

Hack away! Playing guitar is fun. I’ve been playing for 25 years and I’m nowhere near as good as I should be. The important thing is that it should bring you joy.

Lakewood M32CP. Just bought last week. Now to learn fingerstyle to a more adept level (mainly play electric lead).

Looks like rosewood on the back? Looks awesome. I love acoustic guitars with cutaways - my original fender acoustic had a cutaway and it was my fav acoustic for a long time. Had the action crazy low on that thing too, almost felt like an electric. The snowflake inlay is cool too. Nice one.

Yep! European spruce top and indian rosewood back and sides. I wanted something with a brighter characteristic than a Martin. I'd seen Sungha Jung use his signature model for years which is, specs-wise, very similar to this (has a natural finish instead of gloss). I had been using a Harley Benton Martin D15m copy for years and thought it was time to move up a bit. It played a little stiff out of the box so I have it with a local guy to set it up so I can make use of the cutaway for a little lead even.

Before and after pics of a used Ibanez RG3EX1 I bought way back in college as a "restoration" project and currently my "shredder" guitar, my Lonestar Strat is my general use guitar, but it isn't as eye-catching as this baby:

Would highly recommend Wilde pickups, Bill Lawrence was a pickup legend: Aerosmith, Dimebag Darrell, Nuno Bettencourt all use[d] his pickups, the current SD Dimebucker is a rip-off of Bill's design, he was the guy behind the Gibson L6S (a Jazz guitar), and he was the guy Fender hired to develop the original SCN single coils used in American Deluxes circa 2004-2010.

His "vintage correct" models (the keystone series) are pure vintage Fender in design, but just plain better, all at prices that are cheaper than the big names like SD and DiMarzio, and FAR less than the big name boutique brands, i.e. Lindy Fralin, Bareknuckle, etc.

When I lived in Sarasota, FL I frequented the Drum Circle on Siesta Key Beach on Sunday nights. I had a few Djembes and bongos etc. Below is the only drum I kept. Its a Peruvian Childs Cajon. Peruvian style cajons leave the front (playing surface) a little loose for a pseudo snare effect. Most cajons have a snare spring inside. I play it bongo style in my lap. Traditionally you sit on a cajon and play between your legs. The cool thing about cajons is they have 5 tones like a regular five piece drum set.

I only came to know about this instrument a few years ago, when I saw it played on stage in a show by Anushka Shankar. Also on stage was an array of percussion, including a friend of mine playing three or four South-Indian instruments, but I was over-awed by the sounds coming from what seemed to be no more than a wooden box with a hole in it. Amazing thing.

I started playing guitar in September with an acoustic but I became sort of obsessed with getting an electric even though I can only play Yankee Doodle at 120bpm

shopping for an amp wasn't difficult as it's just like hi-fi, everything sold in stores is junk and you have to find someone to make you something good. I found a guy in Arizona making tweed Fender clones to make me a little Champ amp

shopping for a guitar was more difficult, I knew I was a Tele guy but I had a lot to learn about what differentiates an expensive electric from an affordable one. I settled for the Squier classic vibe in butterscotch blonde and now I can't really put it down :)

New guitar day! My old acoustic guitar was a US-made pre-Washburn Tacoma with all solid woods. It was a hell of a lot of guitar for what I originally paid for it and people that played it always felt like it was a way more expensive guitar. It has an awesome wood scent from the mahogany back and sides and a really lively tone. Unfortunately it is still in Asia and I decided to sell it instead of paying the exorbitant fee to ship it back. I sold it to a friend and today I bought this used Breedlove Artista Concerto from Guitar Center. It is basically mint condition to my eye. Sounds and plays awesome. All solid woods (Spuce on top and Myrtle and back and sides) and some nice figuring on the back and sides. Also has better a better pickup system than my Tacoma had. I have always liked Breedlove going back to the 90’s. I think I’m going to be very satisfied with it.

Here is my Fender Telecaster. There are many like it, but this one is mine. I upgraded to a 1988 American Standard from the Squier I posted above. I guess this guitar started life as Olympic White but has aged into this beautiful vintage blonde. It plays and sounds much better than the Squier, and for less than one would pay for a new Pro II from Fender today.

here is the latest in a long line of Telecasters, and probably the last. at least the last traditional one. I went through a number of modern (1980-2023) Fenders. some were okay, some were abysmal, none had 'it'. The prices on pre-80s vintage models has become absurd, especially since many of them are duds and you really roll the dice buying online.

The one photo'd below has 'it'. It's a replica of a 1957 made by a random dude in Spain who has a website that looks like it's from 1999. I had to send a hefty deposit through PayPal and wait half a year hoping I didn't get scammed.

the feel, playability and tone are all in another league from the factory-made guitars I'm used to. It weighs in under 6 lbs (if you're not a guitarist, that's featherweight for a solid body electric) with a black nitro finish and a single-ply white pick guard, just like I always wanted. she's a keeper! I named her Belinda.

Awesome, man. I love great handmade instruments. Does he make these from scratch and the slap a pirate Fender label on them or does he mod and refurbish Fender instruments?

They are made from scratch and pirate logo'd unashamedly, here's the website: https://precbsguitars.com

He's an incredibly nice guy and was easy to work with. I know a lot of guys in the guitar scene are sensitive about trademarks and respecting Leo Fender's legacy and all that. Logo or no logo I don't care too much. We will all turn to dust anyway.

about a year ago I asked @Gazny how to stop wasting money on audio. he said it's simple - just find something else to waste money on. tangentially, that ended up being guitars.

here are my first two Gibsons, a 64 reissue ES-335 and a 60 reissue Les Paul. YOLO
