That sorta thing is why I posted that here instead of in the used deals thread. I thought I saw a Classic 3 with an arm for only 1800 or 1895 or something a couple weeks ago.

Must be really old people, cause barely anyone in the eighties, much less the nineties even had a reel to reel, much less decent media.

I believe they both claimed to currently own R2R decks and one claimed to have worked with them for years. But yeah, I bet the tables are good but I’m not expecting them to best powerhouse tables that already exist. They Mofi tables may punch above their weight though. I am seriously considering an UltraDeck with cart for when I eventually am able to upgrade my table.

Don't be dumb. Pick up a used table on the 'gon. Been seeing some really sweet deals go by and the deals are getting better - better than last year. Many old audiophiles are keeling over or downsizing as they realize they lack savings for old age and disease. Take advantage of this. Or at least negotiate 30% off from a dealer.

Well I’m not buying them when they’re brand new. I’ll wait till they’ve been sitting on the shelf for a while and then graciously offer to take it off the dealers hands for a discount. I don’t see them selling in huge numbers.

I'm sure this question has been asked before but what should I be on the lookout for in the used market in the 2-3k range?

VPI Classic 1-3 is the defacto answer around here. They are always available for $2k.

I'll keep my eye out but it sure seems like they're more in the 3k to 5k range. Maybe since they won't be making them anymore the prices are going up.

Classics went up in price since VPI decided they were too labor and materials intensive and people caught on they were good.

TNTs finally seem to have come down in price. The TNTs have more flexibility with interchangeable armboards, external motors, and other upgrade options. They are warmer sounding than the Classics, but we can get close with an aluminum platter and use of a nylon string instead of the shitty overpriced VPI rubber band. Sometimes the TNTs come with other arms which could be a plus since the VPI arms are unipivot and difficult to handle and adjust. Finally, an Aries can be considered, but only with aluminum platter.

Nottingham Spacedeck sometimes drops. I'd get one of those at the right price. Same thing with the Micro Seiki direct drive tables. On occasion, one of the high mass Clearaudio tables can be had for cheap.

TT pricing tends to be all over the place. Just need to be patient and wait for deals.

@bushdoc Classic 1 and 2 are the same table with a slightly different arm. You should have no problem finding one for under $2.5k. A Classic 3 is $3-5k. It could be the ones you are seeing at higher prices come with upgrades such as the periphery ring or sds.

I am leaning towards Spacedeck myself. They don't come up as often but can be found in the same price range.

Schiit Sol turntable may also become an option not too long from now.

Lots of great options out there that I hadn't even heard of until now. Kind of like my experience with Schiit back when I started the hunt for some headphone gear. If I can find a tt that makes me smile as much my Jotunheim/HD-650 setup. I will truly be a happy man.

Hopefully I can find something that gets along with my Phase Linear amp and Carver pre.

I'm taking a look at the Studio Phono and would appreciate some hands-on notes if available. I have a Schiit Mani but I'm looking to add a Denon-103r and if this isn't a good way to enter the MC world then I'd love for someone to me straight.

Anyone have any experience with any of the turntables? I’m looking again and I’m seriously considering an Ultradeck.

Anyone pick any of the Mofi turntables? I picked up the Studio phono pre-amp and it's pretty good so far.
