Yeah its hit or miss, I'm bored at work (can you tell?) and did some Googling but all I can find on these is that theyre likely from the 70s, and the company that made them now makes hearing aids (could also be a different company with the same name, who knows)

I just spent a good 30 maddening minutes on this one. Did these come from a Canadian store, Miller electronics? I think your best bet is to take it apart, find part numbers on drivers. I'm thinking these could have been a custom house speaker or a re-branded one. As you found there is very little out there on Unitron as a speaker maker. newspaper ad reference from 1979.

@elmoe @KevinDB thanks a bunch for the help and research. My dad got back to me and it seems that you're both spot on, so I'll see if I can take these apart and find out any more on them.

Well, I've got a set of socket savers that I can't get out of a liquid platinum. I've tried to gently rock back and forth with a tube in the saver, but no luck.

I've tried to get a piece packing tape on two sides of the saver. But I can't get the tape to grab hold well enough and it back loose.

Any ideas without have to disassemble the amp?

There is no way that you'll get in with pliers. I have some very small electronics pliers and those will not even get in.

You will probably ruin the socket saver doing this, but the easiest way IMO would be to epoxy or otherwise "permanently" stick something to each socket saver that you can then grab on to and use to pull out the saver.

I recently had trouble removing the same saver from my MCTH, and found a circular rotation (nutation might more accurately describe it) while steadily pulling upward worked better. When the tube starts pulling out, gently push it in so as not to undo your hard work. It took many iterations, but it eventually came out far enough that I could get my fingers on it.

Maybe if you have a junk tube, bend the pins a bit so it grabs the saver more tightly.

I'm hoping it's ok to ask my rather stupid questions here.

I want to change / improve my 2.0/2.1 listening experience.
    What I have:
Macbook > ModiMB > NAD C372 > Klipsch Heresy 3 (rotates, Forte II, SVS Ultra bookshelf, other strays)
    C372 pre-outs feed SVS SB13Ultra
Asgard 2 head amp (will use as a temp. pre for the half-assed phase)

    What I half-assed want:
    Macbook > Eitr > ModiMB > Asgard 2 > Aegir x1 > speaker du joir
    What I really want:
    Macbook > Eitr > ModiMB > Freya S > Aegir x2
What I really want + bass extension:
    Macbook > Eitr > ModiMB > Freya S > SB13Ultra (balanced i/o) > Aegir x2

Am I missing something painfully obvious? I've never used balanced anything, so I don't know if I can feed unbalanced from Modi to the Freya S and get balanced out from there?

I realize 1x Aegir will probably suffice for most of my listening - but I do appreciate the seemingly more control you get with more (good) power. And the rotating speakers could sometimes be more power hungry.

I'm worried that putting the SB13Ultra in the path will influence the signal in unpleasant ways

I gather from the forums that Freya S and Aegir is a good pairing. I do prefer a sound that leans at least a bit towards warmth and engaging, but also appreciate all around good sound with variety of source material.

Does the Freya + pair well also with Aegir? I thought I read somewhere that the tube pre's weren't a great pairing.

Should I just forget this nonsense and keep what I have? Or just get a Vidar and call it a day?

    Something else entirely?

The Freya S converts to balanced from it's SE inputs:

Doh! RTFM. Thank you, I should have caught that before asking that question. Good news for me then.

In the 'something else entirely' column, how's your room treatment? Do you have acoustic panels up? Carpet in your room or just hard flooring, etc?

The one thing that surprised me and got me off doing a 2.1 setup for a while (at least until I move, probably) was just how much thought and effort needs to go into the room itself to get the best experience.

Alright, time to stop the analysis paralysis. Ordered phase 1 - Eitr and Aegir

I agree with this completely, but...
Room is not great, and is not likely to change for the better. I have to make do as I do not have a dedicated listening space in this small house with 10 million kids in it. My office (I work from home) has to also serve as listening space, and random use space for everyone at times.

It's a 10x15 room. Carpeted, no treatment. We're working on some home improvement to include a shop with dedicated office so I can get out of the house for a peaceful place to work. I might be able to do more with the new office to double as a decent listening space. That's going to take a while as we haven't even started the planning phase yet.

I will not chase end game gear without a room to go with it, or ever really. My critical listening days are behind me for the most part, I just want to enjoy my music without forgetting to simply hear and feel the music.

Meanwhile I think relative improvements can be made with modest equipment changes, even in a poor room. I'm happy enough to stop at decent / modest gear for a good long while, with any further improvements coming from placement and simple treatment efforts.

The NAD is ok, but I'd like a change :)

Instead of adding the SB13Ultra to the middle of the chain, what about using one set of Freya SEs to run to the Sub and the Freya balanced to the Aegir X2.

Good idea, that's more like how I have it today and it blends well using the built in filters of the sub, and I can keep the sub off when I don't want it getting in the way of pure 2.0

What's the "best" recording of Tchaikovsky's 1812 that uses actual cannon fire? Performance > actual sound quality, but both would be ideal. Digital download off HDTracks would work, but I'd rather scrounge for CDs on the market (or pay for shipping+cost of CD if anyone's looking to offload). I've been in the mood for this sort of music lately, any recommendations for similarly grand tracks would be appreciated!

(My favourite genres are still admittedly trashy ones invented in the 80s and newer, but I'm occasionally in the mood for something more nuanced. Still consider myself extremely uninformed about musical styles older than I am though, so pardon any gross display of ignorance when I talk about em, haha)

When I looked into this years ago, this was the recording most often mentioned:
