    Hi all,

I broke my rule to save up for a Convert-2 and couldn't resist jumping on a Singlepower Extreme balanced Supra.

It has a socket on the back and I am not sure what it's used for:

Some pics of the amp/internals that might help identifying the above:

Anyone have any idea what this is used for?

It's actually for a optional tube rectified power supply to bypass the internal supply for the amp.

The connector is supposed to be a powercon connector, I originally asked the owner & he said he did not know the voltage needed for the additional power supply. Mikhail is long gone, so there is no way to know unless an amp builder can find out.

You can probably measure the voltage on the connector with a volt meter. Or somewhere inside just past a diode.

Glad it is making its way to Phoenix! A couple of us were looking at it. I used to have a Supra XLR that was similar from around the same era. I don't know too many other folks who have theirs that still post.

I had a "boost" switch on mine that I could run a little bit different tubes with it. I believe I had Tung Sol 2C51's up front and 6BL7GT / GTA in the back 4 spots. I loved it with all my High Z cans, but it was a ticking time bomb with no support and took up quite a bit of space. I know there are a few guys with experience working on them over at HC, but I wouldn't recommend going that route to get in touch with them.

Yeah since this one was checked out and comes with a clean bill of health, that's good enough for me. On this one there's a 12V socket right under the power cable socket to use a 12V power supply and 12SN7 tubes, but I have the same on my MPX3 and was not a fan of 12SN7s. I really like the 6SN7s though so I will stick to that.

It is for a separate power supply that is more betters than what is inside of it. I'm half joking but not really.

I really wanted that amp but I did some digging on the ownership history and didnt feel great about his asking price.

    Will you sell the mpx3??

    AZ peeps 4 lyfe.

Yeah talked him down some on the asking price. It's a lot of amp for the $$ regardless though so I couldn't resist. Will I sell the mpx3 that's the question... I don't know man I can't make this kind of decision without a few drinks first :D

One thing's for sure I will need to do some ABing for a few weeks before I feel comfortable selling it, I've had that amp for well over a decade and it's seen almost daily use on 2 continents, there's some emotional attachment there... but if the Supra proves to best it in every way then I won't be able to justify keeping it.

I'll take the Supra to AZ meets when I start having more free time to actually attend them :punk:

Technically the OCC adapter from headphonelounge was $125 & the tubes were a little over $80.
Going through the original Singlepower threads months ago, I think remember seeing the price for the amp being around $3,000 or $5,000 with the additional power supply.

Kinda disappointed they don't make amps like this or the Super 7 anymore. The sound quality to them is perfect for Sennheiser cans.
