I'm thinking of picking up a pair of these.

Are they still being made in the black finish?

Ah well, it doesn't matter what color I request, as I was just informed that Aegirs are back-ordered for a month.

When I ordered two Friday night, they were listed as available and ready to ship

Sorry, this is the only Aegir-specific thread I can find on the interwebs.

So I thought I might find an answer here, my mistake.

The fact that, at this point in time, you can't order any other color than silver on the Schiit Audio web site should be a strong clue....

The bottom line is that Schiit Audio is where you should be directing this question, not this forum.

When I ordered on friday, I saw that the Vidar was available in black, but the Aegir wasn't.
Perhaps Schiit's website is wrong https://www.schiit.com/products/vidar "Black in stock, Silver ships 11-1"

When I ordered the Vidars, I ordered silver Aegirs because that was all that was available at the time.
But because the Vidars were available in both colors (delay for silver atm), I said in the notes that I would like black if they had any available. Then I got antsy a couple of days later, and sent them a note that silver would be fine.

Schiit replied when I inquired that Aegirs were shipping in 5-7 days, then the next day that changed to a month.

I decided to look elsewhere, just to see if anybody had more information on the matter.
I was already reading this thread for Aegir impressions and other information.
Like I said my bad, I'm not going to apologize again.

The Aegir is an amazing amp. I eventually came to slightly prefer the Master 9/ Aegir combo more than the Hegel H360. Everytime I thought the Hegel was doing something special I would switch back to the Aegir and hear it do the same things sometimes differently and sometimes better*. I think it's the perfect amp for high efficiency speakers (mine are 98db). I really cant imagine needing something more than it unless you are just dying to spend more money.

But I sold my Aegir to a fellow SBAFer. My 2 channel audio system pulls double duty in a tv viewing/ home theater setup and I'm not all that comfortable running one Aegir (or any hot class A amp) everyday 3-4 hours a day just for mindless TV viewing. When I figure out the logistics of separating my two setups from each other I am going to buy a pair of Aegirs. Like most of us I have specific and unique challenges in my listening space that I have to overcome before I can figure this one out, but i am working on it lol.

*The very slight warmth I spoke about in my earlier post was actually slightly more plankton.

Has anyone compared the Aegir to the Bryston 4B3 amp? If so, I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks

Would the Aegir moboblocks be a good match for the Elac Fs 409 speakers?

    What size room?
How far away do you sit from them?
How loud do you generally listen?

They are rated at 89dB sensitivity, which is ok, but monoblocks may or may not be warranted depending on some of the answers to above.

The potential problem with monoblocks however is the speakers are also 4 ohm, which has been problematic for others trying the Aegir monoblocks on medium sensitivity speakers similar to yours.

I should clarify that I'm currently using the Bryston 4B3 with the Elacs. Front end is Yggdrasil DAC and Freya+ preamp. Looking for a sweeter musical sound. Wondering if the monoblock Aegirs will still give me a big/powerful sound yet sweet and musical in a 10x11' space. Thanks

Maybe try some warm speaker cables and do some tube rolling?

If you’ve read the impressions and info about Aegir you should be able to get a sense for this. I haven’t seen anyone describe it as “big/powerful” (especially into med/low sensitivity speakers), many saying it’s a bit light on bass slam.

I’ve not heard either of these amps, but I have heard other Bryston, so I sort of know where you’re coming from.

However, you’re talking about an 80w into 8ohm (in monoblock) class A-ish amp (that’s not even rated into 4 ohms) vs a 500w stereo into 4ohms class A/B monster. As far as solid state amps go, that’s almost as apples and oranges as you can get. No doubt it will likely be “sweeter”, however whether it sounds “big and powerful” that depends on your definition and where you’re coming from. Just a guess (maybe others with direct experience can chime in) but I don’t think you’re going to find Aegir monoblocks be a “sweeter and more musical version” of the 4B3.

I think the old used Brystons are good value, especially factoring in the absurd warranty. Their new stuff though... the price creep hurts. If you don't like it, you don't like it, but I think Bryston gets a weird rep because a lot of people inevitably wind up picking up an old unit to try out and yeah it sounds like a turd because the thing hasn't been serviced in thirty years.

My B60R is still one of my favourites. I bought it used, had it sent directly to factory for a checkup and to upgrade the outputs. My total cost for the upgrade was cheaper than I could have done myself, and on top they replaced a bunch of my old connectors and a couple caps at no extra charge.

Define sweet and musical. Without context, that could mean anything. Aegir could be sweeter and more musical than Vidar. or Vidar could be sweeter and more musical than Aegir.

I hope this isn't out of bounds to post here since this is the Aegir thread but I recently borrowed a friend's Liberty B2B-100 amp to see if I would like it before buying one used. I was going to write a review in the main solid state amp thread but its been a month since I've heard it so i have forgotten the specifics. I will say that it is a slightly less warm than a single Aegir with a hair bit more resolution. It has gobs of power and could probably drive anything. The only bad thing about the amp is that it is high gain AND very low input impedance which meant I couldnt use much of my volume knob as very slight movements led to huge volume changes. Ultimately that is why I didn't buy the amp. One of schiits passive preamps might be a great match.

You can sometimes find them used from anywhere between $1100 to $1500. New they are $2500 which having heard it I would still consider a bargain.
