Depending on what you're looking for (party bass or accurate bass) lifting them up off the floor and away from the walls a bit will help clean up the low end.

@spwath , did you cure the upright TT of the bouncies?

@Hrodulf , I think the listener is waiting for the DAC to warm up.

Wait a second...an 84" TV? Jesus Christ. Looks like a rear-projection DLP, must weigh a fuckton. Get that free off Craigs? I see a GC controller, playing SSBM on that thing?

My 55" plasma is puny in comparison. Should go spend 100k on a 105" to feel better about myself. "Size matters"

Play all versions of smash on it, I'm not very good at melee though

My parents still have a 17 year old 80+" Panasonic rear projection tv, it's massive but surprisingly light. Looks like absolute balls though, even at 1080i. If there is a dark scene with one spot of color, the entire screen will be tinted that color.

Any changes to bass due to speakers a bit higher?

Can't really tell what you have going on here, too dark and blurry. From what I can see it looks like a neat and compact setup though.

Yeah my bad, phone doesn't do to well at night.

    Benchmark DAC-1 --> Singlepower Supra --> McCormack DNA2 --> Dynaudio Focus 260 all balanced

The McCormack amp is the new addition, replacing a Vidar

If your phone can shoot in raw you can use Snapseed to bring up the shadows without introducing a bunch of noise, or you could check if it has a night mode. I know my note 9 recently added night mode and it is amazing for lighting like that.

This is just bringing up the shadows, but it just makes it noisy since it's not full resolution:

The McCormack's are good stuff. Used to have a set of highly modified McCormack DNA1 monoblocks and they were my favorite SS amps I've ever owned.

Its a big step up from the Vidar. I haven't had it for very long but the difference it makes with my setup is really impressive.

My speakers are Merlin TSMs I bought used on Audiogon. They ate somewhat efficient driven by mt Cary V12 in Triode mode for 50WPC or push pull for 100 WPC. The designer died a few years ago. I sent mine in and had all upgrades before that. As it is, The system will play so loud in triode mode that I had to start using headphones and you know how that is.....

Very nice! I have the Merlin TSMs as well. Mine are the MME version - which version are yours? Also, do you have a sub? I found the right sub really helped fill out the lower end for the TSMs.

Yeah, and so sad about Bobby Palkovic. He was a real character.

And nice collection of HPs also!

Some of you know that I still live with my parents and I've referenced my dad's system in the living room a couple of times, but for a better context for my following posts in the PAP thread I think it helps to have a picture of it all to better understand what's going on:
(I was going to take a better picture with less crap lying around, less blown out highlights and better framing, but the weather at the moment doesn't really allow it, so this will have to do)

    Digital rig is roughly: PC - Audiolab 8200CDQ - Freya - HIFIAkademie Class D 400W - Canton Ergo 120
    Analog rig: DIY TT - AT33SA - Restek MRIA+ - Freya - ...
The speakers here are one of the longest standing parts of the system. My dad bought them in the 90s and has kept them the whole time. They're part of why I'm on this forum now. 4.5 way construction with 10" woofers. Super wide dispersion in the upper midrange and generally close to neutral, but never harsh sounding. Upper midrange can be a little shouty in this room, even more so than the OBs with the Voxativs in my room, but it's not too bad.

I'm not too fond of the source components (especially on the digital side), but they sound quite good for what they are (SABRE Dac, Class D amp, etc). The DIY TT is nice, though. It's no coincidence my dad keeps this TT in the living room, not the VPI Classic and it's not just that he/we built it.

As you'd expect the room is a bit problematic acoustically with the bare walls and the huge windows to the right. The thick stack of blankets on the couch to the left doesn't really do anything even if it is at the sidewall reflection for the right speaker. The left speaker's reflection occurs where the TT is positioned. Sound takes a lot longer to decay in the upper midrange than at any other frequency. The room is the same length as mine, but wider by 2m.

BTW: The phonograph is 100% functional. It's crazy how loud it gets.

I wonder whether the floor reflection is a bigger problem than the sidewalls. Have you tried a thick rug (or those blankets from the left couch) at the appropriate spot on the floor? Might do wonders in that room -- maybe even warm things up enough to counter the upper-mid emphasis you're hearing.

We used to have a thinner rug, which was a bad thing in that room, making the top octave sound too damped compared to the upper midrange. Also keep in mind that the "floor" reflection from the left speaker is the table, at least for the midrange drivers and up. I have two thick sheepskins which might work somewhat effectively down to 2kHz or so that I can try today.
