Hoping to sell a bunch of stuff or trade for TH-900 (any finish, any cosmetic condition, preferably mk2 with the detachable cable but would consider mk1).

Randos will be kindly ignored. If you've got under 150 likes here, don't bother... unless you have a TH-900 to offer. Even then, I'll proceed with caution. This stuff is priced to sell, and I'd like to keep it within the SBAF Friend network. Lower 48 USA only. I think the prices are fair but might negotiate or offer bundle savings.

I'll do my best to respond to PMs and send pics / etc. Right now just a list of what I have and what I'd sell for (I absorb PP fees and shipping, so the prices below are what you pay). EDIT - for local pickup and paid via cash / PP gift / Venmo / whatever, take off $100.

I don't have LFF's pads anymore, but they are identical in dimensions (and the materials are virtually indistinguishable) from HM5 oval angled leather pads. FWIW I actually like the sound of the HM5's (and many ZMF pads) better than the LFF pads. Ask about pads when you reach out - I have a bunch and some I may want to keep. I'll test everything before shipping and if you'd like I'll print some measurements and ship them with the headphones (no measurements on the IEMs).

    SOLD LFF-modded HE6 (6-screw) AKA Code-6 - $1250 (don't worry Jexby, this is my pair, not yours)

I was the third owner of this particular HE6, bought on HF in 2016 (?). Tried to mod myself back when I was first getting into it, couldn't get the results I wanted, so I sent it to LFF, paid him $900 (so my total cost was $1800 for these), and he undid my mods and applied his own. This was my primary headphone for some time, until I got 4-screw nervosa (despite the fact that LFF said he prefers to mod the 6-screw) and modded my own differently. Haven't touched LFF's mods, so they're still in tact. They're not in flawless shape - a couple scuffs and stuff to be expected. Request pics if concerned. Ships w/ SMC copper cable directly terminated to banana plugs with a very wide y-split assembled by @fraggler. You'll want to use non-perforated Auteur Lambskin pads for the best sound on these. Still the best planar bass I've heard.

    SOLD LFF-modded HE5LE AKA Code-LEX - $700

Bought from Ray (RIP) for $350 and modded by LFF for $800 for a total cost of $1150. These are in beater condition - need a new headband or simply some new screws to tighten it up. One of the cups swivels around, but once you put it on your head, stays in place and maintains seal. I loved these when I first got them - extremely liquid, zippy, snappy, airy, open sound. Ultimately I found HE4 ticked off most of the same boxes and went even further in that direction, and I could mod those to taste, whereas I didn't want to touch LFF's work. So these have been sitting in their box for about 6 months untouched. Ships w/ a different SMC copper cable directly terminated to banana plugs with a very wide y-split also assembled by @fraggler. These do best with non-perf Lambskin Universe pads IME. EDIT - I actually have an unused headband stolen from a re-issue HE5 i can toss in for free. Just too lazy to swap myself.

    64 Audio Tia Fourte - NOW $950 12/15/2020

Won these in the raffle at THE Show Newport 2017. Don't have the original packaging or cable (it's a 2-pin cable, so fairly standard). I'll ship them in the included mini hard travel case with a fresh set of Campfire Marshmallow tips (just tell me your size). Really a bare-bones quick sale. No cosmetic blemishes. Right earpiece had some mild intermittency with the original cable (which is why I trashed it), but the replacement cable I used (which is now being lent to a friend of mine) fixed the issue and I haven't had intermittency issues since. Haven't been used for a few months.

MODDED Audio Technica ADX5000 NEW ADD $1100 11/30/2020

Shipped USA, Friends & contributors. Couple cracks where the screws meet the baffle assembly but it is secure and no rattling or sonic effect. Might be difficult to remove those screws if you decide to do so. Fair warning.

Mods include dynamat on rear magnet assembly and melamine vent stuffing (no measurable effect but tightens things up and evens out the bottom half a bit). HD800 SBAF-approved rug liner on the front (helps smoothen treble). Stock pads + 'plush pad' (lowers treble and brings out more bass). @captkirk has heard this modded headphone as-is, and it was also at the meet at @ChaChaRealSmooth 's place before lockdown. Ask me for pics of the cracks (not visible unless you remove the pads) and FR measurements.

This is a lovely high-impedance headphone that feels like what an HD700 was meant to be - nearly HD800 like stage, very lively dynamics, crisp on top, touch of midbass emphasis.

    __________________________________________

I'll probably be keeping my modded HE4 and woody 4-screw HE6, unless I get some bonkers offers or end up living with TH-900 for some time without touching the others (most likely scenario), in which case I'll possibly list those for sale in a month or two.

    Thanks!

    Evan

@E_Schaaf , you could probably sell the Fourte on HeadFi for $2k. Not trying to instigate greed, but that additional $550 could be donated towards a noble cause or, a loaner gear for SBAF, if all you desire is $1450 from the sale.

I imagine he's looking for TH-900 funds so he make more of that awesome mod...and hopefully a loaner so more can hear it!

If I end up with three TH-900's I'll be a happy camper - one would be for me, one I'd probably sell to @brencho with some tweaks, and one would go for loaner. I may consider even-across trades despite the potentially higher value of my stuff if the prospective TH-900 comes with additional cables, is green, or minty.

Don't get me wrong, a stock TH-900 sounds like complete and utter ass compared to what's for sale here. I doubt there are even many floating around among well-known Friends given they rightfully fell out of favor in stock configuration. But with the mods, it's truly my personal endgame daily driver.

I wish you all the luck and judging by the prices i am sure luck is something you won't actually need.

PS - Are your mods anything like the lawton ones?

I've never heard a Lawton-modded headphone but after bouncing around their site and reading some mixed reviews, I'd say my mods likely do not yield a remotely similar result. Lawton mods, from what I understand, are meant to neutralize TH-900. That was not remotely my goal - I'm trying to make an anti-HD800. Something with a full bottom-end, bone-shattering slam, smooth treble, that you can really crank up without your ears bleeding, and also something that feels dynamic at low volume levels without veil.

As it stands now, I get a flat line to about 100hz, and then an even downward slope to 3k, with a fairly flat response above that point, and no damning treble peaks that exceed the midrange amplitude. Imagine the ZMF Eikon, but with snappier dynamics, less recession in the presence region, and no bounceback in the treble. This would otherwise be a super dark presentation overall but the drivers are tight and lively enough that the bass isn't boomy, even though it is quite prodigious. The headphones sound very much like my JBL + dual subs speaker setup, which was my target. And at 25 Ohms / 100dB/mW, I'm satisfied with their sound directly plugged into my phone or ZX2.

The only similarity between my mods and Lawton is that the cup stuffing is different materials than stock in both cases - but my mods also include adjustments to the baffle assembly itself, both front and back, and uses both the stock cups and pads (Lawton makes their own for both of these). Maybe Brencho has heard a Lawton-modded one and can chime in?

I do remember reading a Changstar thread long ago to the tune of 'friends don't let friends lawton-mod their TH900s'. That kinda scared me off and I didn't read much about Lawton again.

I never heard them stock, only lawson modded, but whatever their intentions were i didn't like them, at all. Although they tried to get some neutral thing going on i don't think it did the headphones any favors, it was as bland as overcooked oven-baked green apples with some very weird treble going on. I felt that the soundstage was good though.

Sorry for hijacking your thread but it got me curious. When you get a pair it would be great if you could make a thread with all the mods.

Fostex didn't offer me a great 'industry accommodation' price to buy the b-stock pair I already modded for them, so I ended up simply buying a used pair for $750 scouted out by @I_want_all_the_tacos . Thanks friend!

The already-modded pair will arrive back in SoCal on Monday so I'll be able to directly compare to stock and have fun playing with two for a while.

Still open to even more TH-900 trades. Seriously - if you're interested, just send me a message. I can negotiate on prices from the first post and want to see the LFF's and Fourtes go to good homes.

    Just don't scratch that lacquer!

I am really interested in what you can pull off, as I have really wanted to like the Denon/Fostexeses, but there has always been something off with the various V signatures for me.

I saw that pair on HF and clicked to read about them real quick before coming over here to message you, and you had posted in the thread about a minute before, lol.. Congrats on the TH-900's.

Just curious, is there any difference between this pair and Jexby's ;) ? They are both the "same" Code-6 mod?

if an SBAF Friend wants to commission / fund getting the left driver repaired (somehow? by whom?) would sell the headphones to that Friend as well.

    Been a while. Bump.

Tia Fourte now at $1300 incl. PP fees and shipping in the USA - no 2-pin cable. Thinking about keeping the LFFs even though they've just been collecting dust so make me an offer before I yank em.

Still friends only on the LFFs but I might be swayed by acquaintance/contributors on the IEMs.

SoCal Friends can pick up my LFF HE6 from @ChaChaRealSmooth (who is using them to audition the EC 6L6 UL) for $900. Auteur lambskin non-perforated pads installed. I never use them and think they deserve a home where they'll be adored and used frequently. Stock HFM HE6 cable with some oxidation but sounds fine. Edit: I also have the original LFF pads as well, which I can drop in the mail at no extra charge.

Tia Fourte for SoCal Friends - pick up @ my place in Pasadena fo $1150. Get yourself a nice cable and some tips and blast off.

This stuff is collecting dust. I just want to see it move so I can get a jumpstart on some prototypes and get myself some nice tubes for an amp that will soon be in my possession. And I could use some new LE14A woofers too.

If I wanted to sell to randos I would've listed this stuff on ebay or HF for 50% more. Maybe I'll think about selling the Tia Fourtes to a contributor with history / references for $1.75k shipped to a USA address. Friends pay less.

No cables, no tips, no packaging, just the IEMs. There was intermittency in the right channel but I think it's just because my cable was falling apart on the right side. When I swapped L and R cable leads, the right channel played without the intermittency issue. Still fits snug in the socket - no play or wiggle. No cosmetic blemishes. New cable should be a permanent fix. I'll update this post with pics as soon as imgur is back online. SN00056.

    EDIT PICS -

Really difficult to take a sharp pic of these tiny things on my phone. Those tiny white marks on the nozzles are just dust particles. Simple to wipe off.
