People used to read Mein Kampf not because they thought Hitler was a great guy but because it was important to understand the thinking behind such a movement in order to recognize it and prevent it from happening again.

Maybe having a real problem to face for a change will deflate some of the craziness.

I watched some Oxford debates on why There is / There isnt a god, with each participant picking a side. I personally dont have anything against different religions. I was put off by religion by a death of a religious relative who had a chronic illness from birth. Just a childs perspective of life and religion that stuck with me for a while. Getting back to my original point. One thing thing is clear to me. Mixing religion and god into your own agendas and complex matters like science and politics is awful. Aristotle said something like you should get rid of things that distort your vision. Worthy goal, but might be hard to achieve at times.

society no matter where you are = 80% misinformed, coerced, and/or stupid. 20% intelligible, reasoned, willing to seek out information. today's biweekly costco run featured a man with 2 cases of (plastic kirkland brand) bottled water, 1 pineapple, and 1 pack of disposable razors.

    that's it.

You came to costco to buy that, and that alone? A f'ing pineapple???

    f**k you, you f'ing idiot.

At the first signs of "outbreak," (4 weeks ago) a similarly festooned "dumbass costco-man" who had f'ing shower caps over his shoes decided that the MOST important items to purchase were:
    • 4lbs of raw salmon side
    • 4 cases of Kirkland bottled water
    • 4 pack of crackers
    • NOTHING ELSE
WT-absolute-F. Goddamn Americans can be stupid.

What do you expect going to Cosco dude? Dude, be happy the guy wasn't buying TP. We don't even know the guy was stocked up or not. Hey, I go to Wal-Mart just to buy ice cream or condoms only at times. Perhaps I can relate to that idiot.

The only thing I care about nowadays is how my local Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market that's close to my apartment has continued to troll me about today's living situations of life:

If you want a source for up to date information from physicians on the front lines take a look at the FLARE mailing list maintained by Massachusetts General Hospital. You can read archived posts or subscribe. It is written for physicians so it is technical.

Not a good time to have any other health issues, had to take my wife to the ER today because her doc is stumped by her deteriorating condition and symptoms and we can't get more tests done outside of an ER. And I wasn't allowed in with her nor can I visit her now that she has been admitted for observation.
This is not covid related, maybe onset of lupus, but the initial tests don't indicate that.
Frustrating as hell that I can't be with her when we most need to be together.
    This sucks.

If you haven't tried water infused with the subtle flavour of finely shaved pineapple, you haven't lived.

A wise man/educator/leader I know once said "It's impossible to raise your kids as problem solvers if you never give them problems to solve." Truer words...

@yotacowboy, I agree with the others in that cleary this guy is some kind of MacGyver in the bedroom, able to do what you (and your wife) can only dream of with nothing more than H2O and a Pinapple. Times are hard man, but you really should not begrudge such a genius. It's best you acknowledge your superior as your superior, and merely say "well done captain, well done"...

I wouldn't judge, he might have came to Costco for prescription his drugs or something important that was out of stock but grabbed a pineapple and razors while he was there.

Europe tends to be more technocrat. Depends upon the country. USA politicians are mostly all mouth breathers. One either has "a natural instinct for science" or can't stop saying "it's about the science" while not understanding the science. I hate them all equally.

CV-19 isn't a science issue. It's a public policy issue: trade-offs of preparedness vs. sunk costs, death rate vs. business normalcy, getting accurate data, etc. The science really isn't that complex. The public policy issues are extremely complex with winners and losers.

Ultimately, Germany is doing well because they are Germans. Take away the Northeastern states, and the USA is doing on par with Germany.

Thank you for the good wishes.
We were supposed to have been hittin the honky tonks in eastTX rhis week and Jazz Fest this coming weekend, so much for plans gone aft agley. Cant two step or second line when your pins aint workin....
But I know that after a bed ridden week at home she is happy to be in the hospital because in one of those quirks of fate we left her phone at home when going to the ER. So I gave her mine to have once committed.
She just called to ask who all these girls names were in my contact list. Ooops!
I wholesale wigs and extensions to salons, so yeah I have lots of hairdressers in my contacts.
Thats my girl! She will survive this whatever it is.

Here in Austria, the official number of registered heart attacks for March went down by -40% as compared to last year.

A public health expert said openly, people with mild chest pain are calling up their family doctors, but the latter don't want to examine them (presumably for fear of CV-19 infection). They argue that chest pain might point to pneumonia and tell them to call the CV-19 hotline. This hotline is notoriously busy, and on top of that, people know they can't get a test anyway, if they can't prove a contact with someone else who tested positive. As a result, quite a few people end up sitting out their mild heart attacks at home, untreated.

Austria is doing as well as Germany regarding CV-19. But shifting the focus to nothing but CV-19 has obviously produced some adverse side effects. The public health expert who spoke out has since been ushered out of the government task force.

A woman I know told me three days ago that she was ill. The woman is 59 years old. Smokes, likes moonshine. Yesterday she received a positive test result for coronavirus. She was charged with a two-week ban on going out on the street. Today, she told me that she feels well.
