I think I should stop browsing craigslist and usam... anyway found m3ts locally that piqued my interest. Negotiation went too well (including seller driving to my place) to resist. Oh well.

... and I also blame Coronavirus and working-at-home for my craziness.

Not the best acoustics, but I didn't want to look at a wall for home office.

Harbeth P3ESR work really well for all-day listening. A bit like the HD650.

Clean and simple. Perhaps this is the exact setup I need right now. And your mention of 'a bit like the hd650' is music to my ears.

How's lower volume listening with the Harbeths?

Good. Both positives and negatives remind me of a badly-amped HD650.

    Pros:
    - Midrange and tone. Great for voices, especially male ones
    - Imaging, especially in a nearfield setup

    Cons:
    - Lower bass due to cabinet size coupled with an upper bass hump to give the illusion of more bass
    - Slightly recessed highs
    - Somewhat sluggish, macrodynamics

Basically, they don't sound great if you turn up the volume or complexity in the music. Fantastic for jazz trios and singer songwriter material. Surprisingly good for slightly more chill electronic music, conveys ambiance well. Lots of trade-offs to accept in exchange for that midrange and imaging. That said, these are my first speakers above 1.5k so I don't have a lot of reference points. I use them with a subwoofer (which I find to be almost mandatory) and lots of EQ (Sonarworks).

If that's the case, the Harbeths are fundamentally broken speakers. I highly encourage you to try some different speakers out.

Your criticisms are exactly what other P3ESR owners have said. It also makes sense why your Aegir impressions were what they were now. Feeding them more power via a Vidar isn't going to fix the Harbeths.

Replaced my Adam S3a+SUB-P with Unity Audio Boulder MKII. I am super impressed. I also got some Sound Anchor ADMID stands with them but i need to move my desk to set those up so for now they are on my old isoacoustics.

Ohgoodgrief, I just saw the price! Well, I read the Sound-on-Sound article and the price was at the bottom. i remember reading about the company on gearslutz back when I used to dream about that sort of thing. Well spoken of, back then. Very nice! Congratulations!

@jlucas I'm not a real big stand believer outside of the obvious benefits of decoupling from the desk and getting the tweeters to ear level. The ISO stand do that well, aren't too pricey, and look nicer than books. I think they are worth using if you like the look.

@Thad E Ginathom Thank you, I have lusted after these for a good long time and pair finally dropped locally at price I could live with.

This is a bit unusual, but where did you find that media console? It looks super clean. I'm looking for something with decent acoustic transparency to hide my center and all the black boxes under my TV, and this looks like it would work in my room.

It is from BDI. I really like their stuff. A big plus is they are deep (not deep enough for a denon x8500h with banana plugs, but nothing might be :) )
    https://www.bdiusa.com/

it looks like are having a sale now.

also, clearly putting you center in a cabinet will be make audio people grumpy. Might i suggest lying and say "oh, i open the door when i use it." :)
that said, DO move the speaker to the left or the right (off center.) It is one thing to trap a speak in a shelf.. and close it in.. but don't have solid wood right in front of the tweeter!!! (ie, with doors closed 100% if the tweeter is blocked.)

Here is the lie i tell myself. The AMT of the elac 400 series on their 2019+ speakers are amazing. I'll off center the speaker and set the crossover high (100-110, if i recall - i have multi-subs. I wouldn't do that if i only had a single)
That said, it is still a bit boomy. To fix that i packed the back of the case with absorption foam and that helped a TON. (of course this is a AVR, so DSP room correction magic helps too.)

(my stereo/music playing happens at my desktop.. not the HTPC.. they are in the same room tho >.<)

@Zurvv I have the Elac coaxial from the 5 series in my speakers and I can confirm the Elac AMT is some next level shit it absolutely spanks my Adam's AMT.

I really wanted to get the Cencentro, but was confused with the center channel and was worried about matching. Any pix? i'd love to see it in a home setup.
Did you find the down-firing port helping with placement? (my guess is it has little impact as it is still kinda aimed back.)

@Zurvv I don't have a pair of elacs, if you scroll up, I have Unity Audio Boulders which use the elac VX-Jet coaxial from the FS507/509 and SEAS woofers. The newest version(2018+) uses the crystal membrane elac woofers as well.

I can't help but notice the Vitsoe shelving system! Looks like you're making it work, but I wish the modules came in more generous depths that would work better for 16" deep tube amps.

This might not be exactly what this thread is expecting, but that is definitely one of my speakers (Reference 3A L'Integrale).
