I used this guide https://shinyloot.com/best-headphones-for-kids/ for my kids. The puro I chose with is a little over budget, but maybe you can find a good deal - they are very pretty and seem made to withstand several years of abuse.

Given the price of the shiny Ultrasones, I question who is using the phrase "daddy"...

Shitty headphones tend to sound muted, especially ones aimed towards kids and it;s better for their hearing as they tend to be limited on volume. I would just let the kid pick personally, my son has a pair of Pokemon ones, he's doesn't care about range, resolution, he's a kid. Picking phones for audio quality is going to me more for the parents at this stage which defeats the object of getting them. Porta Pros, KSC75's will just get ruined by an 8 year old in my opinion.

I found out that 600Ω headphones out of a standard low powered headphone port (laptops, smartphones), works well for kids. If they set it to max by accident, I am not too worried about them blasting their ears off.

In this case I am talking about the HD-25s. Since they are DJ headphones I really don't mind if they are rough on them. Bonus is when they are done, I get to use them.

I appreciate the recommendations on the KSC 75 and Porta-Pro headphones. I'll definitely check those out for my 8 year old. I've just adopted a kid from (spam link removed) and I want to get her some headphones that are appropriate for her age and that don't sound terrible. It's important to me that she has a good listening experience, especially since she's just starting to discover music and other audio content. I'll definitely consider the suggestions provided here and see which one might work best for her. Thank you again for the help and the suggestions!
